I wish him the best in his future endeavors, but it will be weird to not see his name at the credit roll of the new game.

I did not expect this, at all. All the feels are incoming (personal life story incoming)

When I was young, my gaming life was nothing but cereal box and flash games on PC. When I got an original Xbox, I had asked my Dad for a Star Wars game. When he returned home with one, I was perplexed. What does ''Knights of the Old Republic'' even mean? I may have been only 7-8, but playing this game really was a turning point. It was my first true video game, and the first game I fell in love with. Nothing could ever match this. The story, the characters, the mechanics, the combat... it's really my holy grail.

Then one day, I was browsing gaming sites, and stumbled on this game. ''Mass Effect''. I was just 13, started high school (here in Canada). It was a bit difficult, not many friends, not much to motivate me. When I saw that Bioware logo on that game, I immediately got memories of KOTOR. After a few videos, I was hooked. I played the first game non-stop through March break, and while ME2 was begging me to play it, I had promised myself to wait until summer. It was one of the toughest things I've ever done, but the result was worth it. Exemptions from all my end of the year exams, top of my class, and when I entered that car on the last day of school and told my Dad I was finally done, we drove straight to the game store and I played ME2 non-stop. One of the best games ever.

Then ME3 came out and it wrapped up the most wonderful franchise, trilogy, and universe in great fashion. It wasn't perfect, just like the other 2 games, but it was enough. The story had been completed, and the memories, stories and experiences of a lifetime had been forged.

I realize now that all of this was the brainchild of one man. Mr. Hudson, I thank you for all of these wonderful games, universes, stories, etc. you have created for us to get lost and fall in love with. While people might think you've been beaten and broken by your experiences, like Commander Shepard you can and should rise up again and never let your head down. Without you, none of this wouldn't have existed, and no one should stop creating these wonderful experiences just because he stumbles a bit. Best of luck in the future!

It was one hell of a ride,

the best....

Thank you  ;)

Aw, I'm a little bummed to hear this, but I'm happy for him and really look forward to whatever future endeavors he embarks on. I hope ME4 will do him proud.

Well this come out of nowhere.

Casey Hudson, thanks for helping create some games that I really like (and Mass Effect 1).  Hopefully you'll create some more wherever you end up, in which case I look forward to playing them. If, however, you leave games development then firstly, don't blame you, and secondly, best of luck whatever you choose to do.

Spoiler

Anyways, best of luck to him.

Who said you have no right to express?  I just asked that people not to attack the person.  Criticism of work comes hand in hand with the industry but the way some people react and make personal comments it's just out of line, especially when it's snide remarks without giving reasons why they feel that way or the attacks are focused on the person rather than the work.

Again criticism of a piece of work is fine, it's just when the person is being targeted that it gets out of hand.

Why did he leave so suddenly? He was in the ME4 teaser. It seems odd he'd just quit.

I think there was a conflict of opinions. Maybe EA wanted Shepard back.

Quite shocking; but I felt this should have happened post ME3 ending when he went on Twitter sabbatical; rumors of he and Walters hashing out the now infamous ending angered me quite a bit back then.  Had this news occurred shortly after, the well wishes may not be as plentiful.  That said, I hope Casey is able to reset and venture into passions he loves.  Perhaps he'll hook up with a new studio and develop something even more amazing...but quite honestly, Mass Effect is hard to beat IMO.  It stuck a cord with me that has yet to break.  I only hope he is right and that the ME(4) team produces the best product yet.  Good luck Casey; all the best from this Shepard.

I think that's Mac Walters .

It was both Walters and Hudson.

Hudson has done some great things at Bioware, more good things than bad, and I'll give him credit for that. But the butchering of the ending of ME3 will always leave a sour taste in my mouth. As will the pre-launch lies. Definitely not sad to see Hudson go, I think it was past time for him to move on, but I do hope he finds success wherever he ends up.

Wow, that is quite surprising, especially after seeing him lead the video from Bioware at E3.

Anywho, even after the little mess with ME3, i still thorougly thank him for bringing the Mass Effect universe to us in the first place and truly wish him the best for what is to follow.

Thank you good sir !!!

More likely he has been planning to leave for a long time - so once he felt the new games were well under way and in good hands he left.

I'm glad he stuck around long enough to see that the new projects that he was involved in are left in capable hands after his departure.

Thank you Casey for all your hard work and dedication, may you find success in all your future endeavors and hopefully I might get to experience them.

But why put himself in the teaser?

Why present it at the convention?

Seems odd to abandon his work like that.

Seems like the dude just burnt out, maybe a creative burn out I don't know. I could certainly see why though, making Mass Effect 3 in what, 2 years, normally AAA games require 3 or more years to make, then dealing with the whole ME3 ending mess, then onto a brand new ip and the pressures that come along with that. All that might burn somebodies creative process out.

This could be a downer in morale for some Bioware folks but I hope they persevere through this and honor his creative legacy especially with the next Mass Effect games. Take Mass Effect to the next level and make the man proud of what he started, both fans and Bioware, there's opportunity here. Many franchises have gone through this and still have pumped out some awesome games like "God of War" and "Halo" to name a few.

The negative feedback the teaser and the comic-con panel that spread on other sites probably got to him, then again, those are just speculations. He probably realized the anger caused by the third game wouldn't fade down and things wouldn't change for the next game. Also, there's the possibility he planned to leave the project after giving all the keys and knowledge to Yanick's team, telling them all they need before he could retire from that company. We'll never know, I guess.

He was just doing his job - he was the project lead when the teaser was shot, He was the project lead when it was convention time, Nothing odd about that.

One has to hope that this is one of these things where he truly decided to explore new venues and was not due to a major change in direction for the franchise he did not approve of.

The major change took place in ME2, with Casey at the helm. If they'd swap out Mac Walters as well, I'd have hope for ME4.
