One of the best bosses a producer could ask for.
By the way, for clarity's sake, the next Mass Effect will have involvement from both the Montreal *and* Edmonton studios. I, for example, work out of Edmonton.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, any idea on what some of the Edmonton teams are working on for the next ME?
P.S. He help made some of the best games (KOTOR and the ME series) possible, lots of people are surprised to hear his departure.
Wish him the best of luck where ever he goes. From Kotor all the way to ME 3 I have spent a massive amount of hours playing the games he has been a big part of.

A great within the industry as well, and someone who envisioned amazing and innovative games. He will be missed, especially since I spent most of my childhood playing games that were of his creation. Wish him the best.
I can't help but feel this is, at least partly, because of us fans and of all the criticism that was levied at him and his team following Mass Effect 3's release. I sincerely hope this is not the case, whether the criticisms were were legitimate or not. I know the studio listened to all of that feedback, and it must have been tough to take all of that, but if it was a reason, can't believe we lose such a visionary because of that ![]()
He left on a sour note (that being post-ME3). He should have stayed & redeemed himself with ME4.
It's plausible (at least to me) that he could have left to prevent any of the current projects, esp Mass Effect: Next from getting bashed solely because his name just was associated with it. Especially given that even this far after the release of ME3, it is still a relatively hot topic.
Granted, it would have been nice to see him continue, regardless of ME3's flaws. But like he said, now would have actually been the best time to leave, since all the games are in a good state and his departure wouldn't mean the games would unravel for some reason.

Please post more. That is all. ![]()
one big Smile, best news all day
This is sad news. I didn't like ME3 for the most part (we've heard enough about the flaws of that game to last a lifetime, I think, and it wasn't just the endings that were off) but I think Casey Hudson has great vision for his projects... this feels a bit wrong :/ Hope he goes on to do more great stuff. ME series was still fantastic overall.
My god, some people on this thread are such asswipes about it all. No wonder I never venture into this forum. The bitterness bandwagon has snowballed since I was last here. No wonder the devs stopped popping in here. Jesus H Christ.
Casey presided over some of the best games in this industry. I can't even imagine who'll step into those shoes.
Best wishes to you Casey!

Thanks to him for the Mass Effect trilogy. The original ending is something no other company could have done and it is the reason why Mass Effect is one of the very few games with artistic ambition that can be called "masterpiece".
It is sad to see Casey Hudson depart, but it's not as big of a deal as everyone made it out to be. While the concept and direction of the story was his, much of what we loved about the series was created by Drew Karpyshyn and many of the other fantastic Bioware writers. The only big impact that he had on the series was his and Mac Walter's rewrite of the third game's ending after the original dark energy focused ending leaked online.
From a purely objective standpoint, I am glad to see him leave, but I owe him much for creating some of my most beloved games.
Yo, Casey Hudson -- you take care. We all admire your work -- especially all of us part of Revolution72 and the animations we produce in honor of Mass Effect. We think that you've been the lead in creating a magical experience that everyone got to take part in. And when you come back -- because you will be... right? RIGHT? No, but in all seriousness, you take care. I hope that, whatever you decide to do, you remain proud of your accomplishments and dish out some more.

Just to clarify that point. Drew Karpyshyn said this was one of the scenarios they had envisioned for the ending of the trilogy. Since he left shortly after development of ME2 started, I doubt he had an active part in the ending decisions. That ending wasn't even in the cards when the game's story leaked online. It was one that was similar in concept to what to got, with the Catalyst, 3 choices all there, etc. They did not rewrite the ending, they just tuned it up for the final release.
First became a fan of Casey Hudson and Bioware through KOTOR 1. One of the reasons I kept around my old original Xbox. Played the heck out of that game. Same goes for the Mass Effect trilogy.
Sad to see him go. Wish him all the best.

EDIT: I stand corrected.
Tbh it was a good idea to drop the 'proposed' DE ending since it made no sense what-so-ever (why build the mass reley's which generate more dark energy when you are trying to stop it from spreading) and didn't have a proper build up (only mentioned in four mission's and three of them are optional), but this for another topic.
I can already see the "MASS EFFECT IZ NOT TEH SAME WIZOUT CAZZZEY ANYMOAR" that will plague any discussion about future ME games ![]()

Despite what happened and how you kinda lost it in the end, I'll always remember you for KOTOR & Mass Effect 2 Casey. Yes you screwed up hard with 3(n it wasn't just the ending) + all the lies, but i feel overall with Mass effect(n esp 2) truly it was/is one the richest, best sci-fi universes ever created(really the best since Star Trek). One of the best games ever made. And you had a major role in that. Despite your many flaws, stil i say thank you for the hours of joy. Best of luck in your future endevours. May you re-discover that creative spark and hopefully bring us new exilerating experiences in the future.
