man thats just sad I didn't expect to read this I thought he was making ME 4 nooooo

All the best to you Casey! Thanks for giving me my favourite game series ever!

I know people don't like him but apart from the ending which was saved in my opinion with the EC he was one of the

guys who made Mass effect back in the day and I'm incredibly grateful for that

I wasn't happy with how Mass Effect ended, not entirely with the role he supposedly played in it and not with everything that was said by him about ME3 before and after the release either. But that's old stories now, and there are no negative feelings left on my part in any form. In the end there's more to gain by remembering everything that went right, and that's a lot.

So just all the best to Mr. Hudson and his future endeavours, and heartfelt thanks for the good times!  :)

Of course everybody is nice here, the ones who post harsh comments get censured.

You can still dislike the third game without acting like a mean guy, just saying. Throwing free insults at the developpers and former workers isn't productive at all. And now I'm sounding more and more like good ol' Ninja Stan.

End of the line... *sighs* I miss Ninja Stan.

Yes but I hate dancing around the whole issue. I get that nobody wants to say harsh things, but Casey was a controversial figure. I'm glad for most of his work, but I wasn't happy with his performance in ME3. If you look at the comments on /r/gaming, a lot of people are still bitter over the whole thing. As long as you don't flat out insult the guy, but there's nothing wrong with criticism.

And how sad is that?

How many games have been released since ME3? Hundreds? Thousands? Yet they still spend a portion of their time dealing with an ending of a game they didn't like.

Hilarious.

Please, people... stop assuming it was just the endings that caused this. It's more than the endings. Anyways, we're going off topic so let's leave this discussion at that and focus on Casey's departure instead.

I'm happy and sad about it.

Sad that people are still putting some pressure on Bioware for ME3.

Happy that after all these years, and after a bunch of big titles came out, ME3 is still remembered for both its good and bad.

Casey presided over some of the best games in this industry. I can't even imagine who'll step into those shoes.

Best wishes to you Casey!

Someone with just as much, if not more talent, will take his place.

I'm not sure which is more offensive, the utter scumbags or the backhanded compliments.

It was a shame about the whole ME3 ending thing, but no one's infallible and I'd wager that Casey's contribution to BW and ME is hugely in credit still.

Fingers crossed that he's really leaving for the right reasons and not because he doesn't agree with some questionable future direction.

Good luck Casey and many thanks for your contributions to the vast majority of ME that worked, and worked supremely well.

Hold on there.

Now there's a clear difference between people who are still spending time complaining about the ending, and people who just haven't forgiven. I'm sure the vast majority of these people have moved on to other games and enjoyed the hell out of them. But if you bring up ME3 to them and they say the ending still sucks, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I feel like you're painting these people out to be a lot worse than they actually are.

Hudson and Walters get all the blame for the ending (and I'll be honest I give them grief over it all the time) but we don't know what was involved with the decision making there. They could've been forced into wrapping things early etc. Hudson definitely took a lot of abuse on some of his comments about the ending but let's also not forget he was the spokesperson for the game. It's his job to spin it positively and take the negativity off the people under him.

Let's also not forget Hudson did a lot of good here for the ME universe. If you're going to criticize him you also need to acknowledge some credit to him for creating a product that you give a damn about.

I'll just end by saying best of luck to Casey and hope EA doesn't  screw up the direction of the game going forward.

But this topic isn't about ME3, it's about Casey Hudson, who has done far more things in life than make ME and have a say in the ending of the trilogy.

Yet here we are, with people calling this the happiest day of their year/life, insults and complaints directed at Casey, some more bs about the ending and other bs.

I'm not painting anyone off as worse than they are; I'm not even holding a brush. At best I'm taking a picture of a painting.

He was in charge of the absolute best gaming series of the last generation of gaming, the absolute best game of that era (Mass Effect 2) which is also my 2nd favorite game of all freaking time, which I still replay through once every 3-4 months (this year alone I've beaten ME2 4 times. I don't even do trilogy runs that much, just take my ME1 Lv60 save with all my favorite decisions and play through ME2). ME2 pretty much saved me during the worst year of my life, so that means Casey is responsible for saving the worst year of my life.

That being said I still have hope for ME4. A fresh perspective could do wonders for the next game. I think Casey wants us to feel more positive about the future of ME with his departure, not more negative. But we all know what people on the internet are like. It's a cesspool of miserable people with crappy priorities, morals... pretty much anything that makes a decent person. Casey will be much healthier mentally when he doesn't have to hear crap about ME3, a great game in its own right, when all he wants to do is make a new IP.

Best of luck, Mr. Hudson. Whatever the future might bring, you've done more than most. If not for you, we wouldn't have the krogan alliance Mass Effect series. Thank you for the trip. It's been... emotional.

Fixed for you.Metallica wouldn't even exist without Lars Ulrich.

Off:

True enough. Metallica was founded by Lars and James, but the whole idea of making a band came from Lars and it's also him who "stole the name" from Metal Mania. So yeah, he is the godfather of Metallica and also one half of the crative mastermind behind Metallica's music and legacy. Although Metallica has always been the Ulrich-Hetfield show. There's no one without the other. Neither of them is replaceable, yet I think that Kirk has become just as important, and maybe Rob too. But to me James is the most important and most iconic member. Without James there's no Metallica as we know it.

On:

It's funny. We are discussing Metallica here. A band which inspired Casey too. I remember reading an interview with him when he said how big an impact the song "One" had on him. It inspired him to become an artist himself. So with Casey, not only a talented artist but also a fellow Metallica fan leaves the premises of Bioware. Sad times indeed.

Thank you most sincerely, Casey, for bringing me some of my most loved and unforgettable gaming experiences over the years. 20 minutes of an ending do not change that. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and I do hope you'll remain in gaming as your contribution to the medium has been immensely valuable.

Casey was the guy who finally gave me a straight answer regarding how the interrupts were going to work in ME2. I was adamant that their results needed to be predictable, and Casey came along and said "Tough." He explained that the unpredictabilty was an intended feature, and that it wouldn't be going away.

I still think that was a terrible design decision, but I really appreciated his candor.
