Oh man, don't remind me of Hitman Absolution. Still hurts me soul.
Casey Hudson's departure from BioWare!

That said, there are numerous cases where companies who bank on the loyalty of their consumers have gone "one game too many" in any given series and you can see the deterioration in the quality of the game if the creative talent is already dried up or the developers lose sight of what made their games special.
This.
And don't remind me of the thought on a Jade Empire sequel mang. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.

Casey Hudson did not single handledly think up every single character of the Mass Effect series, personally designed and wrote them, anymore than George Lucas created the greatness that was Empire Strikes Back (which he didn't) It was effort of an entire team, Harrison Ford's input was what made that one scene at the end with Leia so awesome as it was, Irvin Kershner's direction, Bob Andersen's cinematography and not to mention an excellent screenplay from Lawrence Kasdan and finally the cast. In fact I'd go as far to say that Lucas' had about as much to do with the success of that one as Tom Clancy did for any games that carried his name -- It's like those knobheads who think Drew Karpyshyn was solely responsible for all the writing in Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect.
Casey Hudson was part of a team that brought games like KOTOR and Mass Effect to life and that's fine. But he's also made a lot of bad stuff which has basically made me feel indifferent to his departure. It's his decision though and I'm sure he's thought about what to do next. So good luck to him at least.

@Johnnie: I wouldn't call ME3 a screw up if enough people like it (and enough people did like it) also people are still replaying the whole trilogy, so I would say the ME series is still going strong since a lot of people are still interested in it.
Listening to fans =/= doing as the fans say. Fans may have good idea's that sound good in theory but in practice it may not be good to implement due to resource limitations or because trying to implement it is too difficult so listing to fans isn't probably simple as it sounds. By the looks of things I would say they are listing to fans (return of mako suggest exploration is returning and people have been asking for exploration).

I'm more looking forward to "Cyberpunk 2077" than the next ME at this point.

I still reply Duke Nukem 3D, but I have enough sense to realize that another successful Duke game just isn't going to happen. If it does, awesome. If it doesn't, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
It doesn't matter "how many fans still like the ME universe", Knights of Colour went into that field so I won't repeat.
And that's not what I really meant about listening to their fans. BioWare just isn't failing at their games but also their site as well. Do you realize how many people have left the BSN in the past 7months alone? The mods lack conviction, they go out sending permabans for bs reasons. Everything is connected. Their last two games we're not what we had hoped, majority speaking. Yes you have the blind followers that'll praise BioWare no matter what, but that doesn't take away the fact that a lot of people were truly disappointed in BioWare. And now, they're site is going to crap too. Kinda feels like BioWare is suffering from a domino effect.

Opinions on a game differ from person to person. That's fine. J. Reezy hates The Last Remnant and even though his opinion is wrong and utterly without merit, I respect that opinion and his right to voice it. ![]()
But this is kind of a false flag. Whether Mass Effect 3 reaches the magic number where "enough" people like it or not, it had a very controversial reception and put a significant dent in the reputation of the IP and BioWare as a whole. If BioWare can recover from that with a new Mass Effect game, then that's fantastic for them. But people are understandably skeptical considering BioWare's recent record.

Gamers don't have the inside scoop of what goes into game development and make demands that are impractical, definitely. I... don't know what relevance this has to anything, but sure.

I've seen plenty people criticism their games and still enjoy and the threads that get locked are because they ended up being unproductive as it endings with user's insulting dev's/other users, derailment of thread etc. there quite a few threads criticizing their work that are still open you just have to look for the. BSN only represents a small minority of the entire fan base, most fans won't even post on this site and are most likely indifferent about what has happen over the past few years.

tbh I would say more people are interested in the next game rather than excited since there has been little information released about it.

The problem is Bioware is doing exactly what fans told them in some cases. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't made Kaidan gay if his fanboys/fangirls wouldn't scream about it on every page.

Bioware's idea of "unproductive" are conversations that don't involve their games.

It's alright though, we can create user groups and have discussions amongst ourselves without clogging up threads as long as we stay within the rul... oh. Right.
Well, it's not all bad. We still have a feed where we can chat to each other via comments and... Hmm.
Okay, there's not any of that but BioWare still has walls where we can have long discuss...ions...
Well we can at least use the wall to post imag...es...
Eh.
It's all good, we have dark backgrounds! ![]()

The off-topic section was made so people can talk about things that aren't related to their products. Also most threads I've are locked since they dissolve into petty bickering, user's insulting each other/dev's or weren't good things to discuss in the first place.

It has been threatened that the off-topic section be removed, I don't think that'll ever happen though. But I have witnessed and experienced myself of mods banning users for nothing offensive, petty or spam worthy. If you're friends with a person that tends to go around with humor (because modbots see humor as a bad thing), then the mods will brand you as a "trouble maker" as well. Guilty by association.
Want to try and talk it out with a mod so they understand your perspective? Too bad, they'll ignore you.

Jade Empire doesn't deserve a sequel. There I said it.

Good post, Chris. I like to be snarky about it and all, but this is a well balanced post that I can't argue with at all.
The problem is Bioware is doing exactly what fans told them in some cases. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't made Kaidan gay if his fanboys/fangirls wouldn't scream about it on every page.
I'd be looking at Tali and Garrus personally. Peripheral characters that were thrust into the limelight because the community's perverts wanted to have sex with a Lizardman and Miss Sweaty Space Elf 2183. Now, I liked them but it was clearly pandering and BioWare have already admitted as much.

I tend to agree that moderation policy is less severe than stated. But to me, it's less about moderation policy and more about how BioWare have actively taken steps to dismantle any and all features that foster a sense of community on the BSN beyond the barest of nods (an Off-Topic section which some want to abolish anyway). It is what it is though. What's done is done.

So this is the guy at the helm of the sexist, racist, homophobic future called Mass Effect. Where a straight, white male space jesus saves every race instead of killing them off and the galaxy as well. I love Dragon Age, so much more inclusive. I'm glad David Gaider is still around and have more hope for writers like him.
What? Seriously, is that **** all you care about? Even when they started catering to the gays, you ignore that? I can't shake the feeling that some of you lot on this forum are more concerned about pushing your tumblr sexual agenda on games rather than actually focusing on the game itself, the gameplay, mechanics, music, replayability and so on.
