Sten won't comment on any of the areas he normally does where you get to ask him questions later. I thought that was weird but then I noticed no other party members trigger bantor in the usual locations. I think Lothering was the last place any party bantor triggered.
Has anyone heard of that before?
Sounds bugged. You can check by going into Orzammar, approaching the gate to the main part of the city, it should trigger a banter. You can also trigger banters by entering the gate, going straight across the bridge to the Provings. At about the halfway mark is another banter trigger.
Are you on Console or PC? If on PC there is a mod you can use to trigger banters everywhere. If you are on PC you can try this. I am unsure what you can do to fix it altogether if your game is bugged. I am assuming Sten has not exhausted all banters yet?

Talk about bugs - I had the bandit leader actually chase me into Lothering after he was killed and I looted his crates.
