We have no idea when the next Mass Effect game is set.  Even the supposed news of it taking place during Shepard's lifetime is pure speculation.  However, if it does take place in the future, what would do you all think will happen to the various races of the Milky Way?  I am especially curious to see if they do anything with some of the other races we've encountered.  The Yahg?  The Raloi?  The Protheans?

What's a Raloi? I haven't encountered one. I want blue Asari and dodges. Actually, I modded Asari to have red skin, now they are space demons.

The Raloi are a lesser known species that joined the galactic community, but quickly left once the Reapers arrived.  You can find out more here:

Protheans?

I hope sincerely they don't space magic them back into existence.

If there's any Protheans at all, there should be only one and his name is Javik.

I'd like to see a species like the Xenomorphs from the Alien Quadrilogy. Nothing but ruthless killing machines. I'll ignore that there's no evolutionary pressures that could create such a species, just cause they are so awesome :P

This.

Even though Javik is one of the my favorite characters, the Protheans should remain a dead species.

As long as the Asari underwent a extinction level event I'll be fine.

I wonder if the codex will change for the Asari and mention their goddess was Prothean and that now instead of hearing them say "by the goddess", they say "by the Prothean".

When you put it like that, they might as well join the church of the Hanar. "by the enkindler!"

Raloi....no thanks. Never understood the hype over the mere mention of them. Which is literally all it was.

I think for the Asari 'by the godess' is the equivalent of "oh my god." Its probably just a cultural thing that people say even if they don't believe in or worship Athame. According to the lore most Asari belong to the Siari cult, which is pantheistic. The monotheistic Athame cult is a minority.

The other issue is whether the Prothean is the origin of the Athame cult, or whether belief in Athame predated the arrival of the Protheans, and the ancient Asari just mistook a female Prothean for their godess. (sort of like the Aztec mistaking Cortes for Quetzalcoatl)

The hype, i guess, was because they were a new species (at least it was for me).

I wouldn't be surprised if the "freed collectors"  somehow build a civilization after the events of ME3...

From what Javik says during the  mission on Thessia seems more like the Prothean created the whole Athame idea rather than the primitive Asari confusing a female Prothean with a goddess. (I think he said something along the lines "we are Athame").

ps: "By the Prothean"....i suport this! :P

I think they should redo all species in a certain way. It being on a new engine with superior hardware. I've stated on several occasions my want for them to make species move uniquely based on their anatomy. Dog-legged species would have a little bit of bounce in their step. Humans and asari would walk as they do. Krogan would have more weight and be more lumbering etc...

They started doing something like this in Omega DLC. The elcor were very muscular, same thing with the vorcha, also their feet was diferent.

I'd like the asari to have males or look more androgynous. No more obvious fanservice crap. Make them more than just the "space lezzies" and give them some depth.

Well, based on the subject-to-change E3 trailer they are doing an overhaul of the Krogan to make them a bit more beefy than how they were in Shep's trilogy. (Which is to say they are more than just lumbering upright blastoises)

They might pull a Halo were they dramatically alter the appearance of a species or armor variants because they can to give a fresh look. If they do so with the Krogan then the same might be true of the Asari and Salarian people regardless of the timing. Aesthetics may vary widely, or they might be a bit more restrained time will tell.

As for changes for the species if it is set in the future... That requires the oh so unpopular canonization of events. Quarians are dead in one set, Geth are dead in another, Krogan are not around in yet another, so on, so forth. I wouldn't hazard a guess as to what exactly might change because there is just too much you could say did or did not happen.

That said, the Geth would probably go through an aesthetic change should they have survived the Events of ME3. If they were to be reintroduced to the galactic community their old appearance during the Morning War, Saren's Plot, and the Battle for Rannoch wouldn't be very good. I imagine a change like from Halo 3 to 4 where their armor becomes more angular and metallic to further distance themselves from Quarian and their old appearance.

Asari won't change on their own since they live so long. I mean, if there are specimens from at least 800 years ago regardless of what point you choose in time you will see the old Asari. They won't change too much themselves I think, being told Athame was a Prothean wouldn't kill their jive too much and some might just do the 'prophet' thing where the Prothean was just an Avatar of the true god... Yadda yadda. If they were to actively change their appearance it would probably do some good to make them more androgynous as has been said. I mean, if they are supposed to be universally appealing to everyone it's going to be hard to get a gay Krogan into (non-literally) any Asari as it is in the trilogy. Of course not all Asari would be androgynous but at least some variance would be appreciated, and probably considered.

Turians are spacebirds/reptiles. Not a lot is going to change about them I think. They might play off of the less humanoid appearances and give them a look more similar to Raloi, should that species appear again. More avian, more predatory, something in those lines. They're supposed to be a kind of evolved predator, not a survivor like a Krogan, a thinker like a Salarian, or an Adaptor like a Human. They evolved to fight and hunt and they have only had a few thousand years since their unification days. They should still look like something that can kill and is designed to.

Blah, that was what was on the top of my head. I might think of more later or edit this to make coherent sense.

The Quarians certainly need a redo.

I have no problem with their appearance being retcon'd, since Tali only appears unmasked in barely edited stock photo.

I think it's too late to add something like a male asari to the mix, unless they reboot the entire franchise and rewrite the biology of the races. Anyway, depth is a different issue. I'd just like for the future game(s) to explore the culture a bit more.

I would like to see/know more abt the Yahg. IIRC their species should have been overlooked during the reaping. Although I still wonder if they would be affected by the Crucible beam. Idk,  if they have a working relay in their system, even though they were quarantined. If you chose Synth would they be all synthed?

And yes Raloi. I would like to meet and know more about this new species simply because it is new.

I imagine the Salarians are doing just fine cuz again iirc their planet was not touched. Which is odd to me, but okay. They would have alot of power after the Reapers if that is the case. One of the few spacefaring species that would still have their infrastructure intact.

edit: and yes, I'd like to see all the cultures explored in more depth. bulk up their lore a bit more.

I only care about Quarians, and possibly Geth, being in the game.

Really the only differences on the races we know should be higher quality models with more detail, and have ever seen a Turian female I can't remember seeing one, we know they got them lets see them. Maybe lets explore some of the other races they touched upon like the Elcor, Volus and Hanar so we can know them like we know the Asari, Turians and Salarian. Also whatever happens to the Rachni if you go through all that trouble to save them? Do they join the galactic culture or just stay on the fringe.

And for the love of God, fix the damn quarians so they don't look like humans with lines painted on their foreheads.

In regard to the above post,

Am I the only one who likes the Quarians the way they are? I do believe the picture of Tali'Zorah was pretty shitty but I like how they turned out to be.

A couple (literally) female Turian characters were introduced in DLC. In the Omega DLC one of Shepard's two companions is a female Turian (the other is Aria T'Loak), and in the Citadel DLC there is a scene where Shepard can encourage Garrus to make a pass at a female Turian at a bar.

Agreed. Even though they were already known as a humanoid/bipedal life form, Bioware had a chance to distinguish them as something truly "alien" and maybe even ugly, yet beautiful in it's own way

But, nope....they had to give her some hair and make her "hot", because who really liked Tali simply for who she was?! I know, what a crazy thought.....
