I would hope they go for a harder sci fi experience and leave the fantastical elements out of it.

I would hope they go for a harder sci fi experience and leave the fantastical elements out of it.
True, it'd be running a very fine line, but think of it this way.
It has been said
Any technology sufficiently advanced enough can appear to be magic
So any biotic power or engineer displaying their powers to a primitive civilization would be a Witch/Magician/Etc
If they borrow from Babylon 5
The races we know as Demons & Angels are 2 opposing factions of ancient powerful races.
Dwarves could be an alien excavation crew who failed to stealthily mine the raw materials from our planet
Elves could be a long living alien race looking to escape something or another & wanted to colonize our planet but ran into us without doing a proper survey
Dragons as described in other works of science fiction could be space ships

Somehow... Seems unlikely.
I mean, lore is sometimes a contest of will but something like that I don't think could be pushed. The races would most likely have been space-faring using eezo tech and thus using relays for ranged FTL. Then they would have found the Citadel much as like the other races did, and set up their governments there. If you assume that the fact we wouldn't have had 'accurate' records of them meant it was in prehistory (~3000 years ago) that would put them at the Citadel long before even the Asari ((Writing blind, could look at wiki's timeline but meh)).
So... Supah-Retcon. Unless you pull a 'mysterious extinction'

I hope all the aliens get a make over to make them feel more alien in both how they act and what they look like.
cause as of now they're just strange looking humans
