How about handheld games of the Dragon Age franchise?

I wouldn't mind playing Dragon Age on the go. I know there's already the iOS mini-game about heroes collecting, but I'm actually speaking of a full-fledged video game, BioWare style that you could play on the VITA or the 3DS. Graphics would be weird, but at least all the core elements of the Dragon Age franchise could fit in those games. Imagine if they used retro-style sprites instead of huge graphics. Personally, I wouldn't mind something artistic and colourful like the old PSOne, PC RPGs. There's a good demand in retro-rpgs after all, considering there are a bunch of people who still purchase Kemco games on iOS and Android. How about a game that could be a retelling of one of the books? Or Origins abridged. Character customization would be awkward but at least there would still be a lot of stuff to do, like colouring our hair, eyes, etc. I know this sounds silly, but a retro-looking Dragon Age could be fun. Then again, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. The good thing about handheld games is that you don't always need to use voice acting in them... And now my mind is wandering again in the good ol' Final Fantasy 6 (SNES) era where the sprites looked so cute and the music was awesome. Sorry for my nostalgic point of view.

I wouldn't mind seeing the books brought to the life in the form of a strategy RPG, like in a similar vein to FF Tactics : War of the Lions, and the major scenes could be done in a visual novel style and the art-style used could be similar to the comics I think it would be a neat little thing to do and to also get a foray into the handheld market.

Oooh ~ visual novel, american-canadian style. I like the sound of it. I think visual novels should have their market in our country as well. I wonder why it has to be Japanese exclusive, unless there's a law that forbids people to do so. It's probably the fact that visual novels are easy to program anyways and some programmers wouldn't want to take the easy way out. Yet, a lot of people in Japan and people who translate their games love their interactive stories. Now if we had some type of visual-novel for Dragon Age with some strategy rpg type of battles, it would be sweet indeed.

Well, I don't know...I would not mind having spin-offs like an RTS-Game, but games for mobile phones or tablets?

I don't know if that would be such a good idea :(

And I would be missing out on them (despite having a smartphone and tablet...I just don't like to play - serious - games on them...something like "Fruit Ninja", ok - but please no Dragon Age or Mass Effect or something I take seriously :( )

greetings LAX

ps: Keeping good quality and good story telling while on some flimsy little device is quite hard, too!

Bah, the 3DS and the Vita are quite capable of handling big games like Persona 4 Golden and Shin Megami Tensei IV. All we need is good writing and some addicting gameplay while being able to save our game when we want. I feel like the western programmers are underestimating the popularity of handheld consoles and mobiles. I'm a 3DS gamer so... I wouldn't mind one day to play a BioWare game for machines like that.

hm...

I don't even know those games - they sound japanese/manga like so it's no wounder...never much liked that...

Still I don't think a handheld is a medium for a game that takes itself serious...that's what konsoles, pcs and (as loath as I am to even write it) macs are for...

I mean Dragon Age for me is no "wow I have 10 minutes - let's play some" - NO, for me DA is a game-series were I don't want to be disturbed while playing, I want to play for hours at a time, not 2 minutes there, 5 minutes there etc. :(

I'd happily play an old-school 2D strategy RPG on my phone.

I currently have installed an android port of an old turn-based dungeon crawler. This game - Oubliette - is so old that it was ported to DOS in 1981, having originally been written for the PLATO Mainframe in 1977.

It works well on the phone. It's arguably better now than it was in DOS (the android version most closely resembles the 1983 C=64 port).

This!

The Vita desperately needs some love from Game Developers.

This post inspired me to go and play retro rpgs I purchased through PSN. Chrono Trigger has a fighting system I wouldn't mind seeing coming back in rpgs these days.

I imagine something like Dragon Age Origins could be doable on 3DS with the stylus, clicking icons and dragging characters on the field like an RTS-RPG hybird. xD
