Im making my hawke a spirit healer support. No damage spells only spirit healing + haste, heroic aura + cc spells from enthrophy. This got me wondering. Should I use a makers sigh potion and respec out of magic and fully into con/wis (cept fro gear req)?
Any point of stacking +magic on a spirit healer /cc / support mage?

Magic still raises your attack and damage for your auto attacks so it's useful. Can find the "sweet spot" where further magic gives diminishing returns on attack and put the extra points into con/will.

Sorry for asking this, but I'm really honestly clueless, how does one find out when you get start diminishing returns for putting points in Magic? (on a mage obviously).

Keep an eye on the DPS figure when you're adding points to magic. If you're below the sweet spot, you'll get close to one to one increases. When you're above it, you'll maybe only get +1 dps by adding 3 points to magic. The sweet spot is also around 90% attack score without any +attack jewelry or clothing.

When you're allocating stat points look at the percentage you have for attack. If you have extremely low Magic, you'll notice that each point of Magic gives more than a 1% increase to attack -- may even get something like 2-4% attack per magic. If you have extremely high Magic, you'll notice that each point of Magic gives less than a 1% increase to attack -- may need 2-3 POINTS of Magic to get a single attack PERCENT.
So basically you go from
>1% per point
to
1% per point
to
<1% per point
You want to be at the top of the 1% per point range for the sweet spot, so can stop adding magic at the point where 1 magic does not give 1% attack. Keep it mind it DOES still increase damage, specifically 2 magic = 1 damage so it's not wasted. Just less effective.

It's not like you have better stats to invest to. Magic gives magic resistance as well as increasing your autoattack damage. So just stack magic after a desired amount of willpower and con and you are golden.
Desired amount may vary, but tbh, no matter how much you stack, when you active spirit healer toggle your mana bar gets crippled anyway, so if you want a quality willpower build, then decide on a couple spells you use a lot (gravitic ring/pull of the abyss for example), and first you cast them, then active spirit healer and your remaining mana should be enough to use a group heal.
This combo needs about 90-100 reserve mana. Add a ~20% increase for the rest of the sustains (rock armor for example that you don't want to toggle on and off) and you should target for a 120 mana pool.
You can add other spells like firestorm, barrier, walking bomb on this, then add the cost of the sustains , decide on the usage of magic potions, and you will have your number. Generally speaking an effective build should have about 5 core spells and a good all around pool is around 200 mana. Just remember to turn spirit healer off out of combat, it's a waste. Use a comfortable bind.
Con isn't that important, you will never get enough to scale your health appropriately. For lower difficulties than nightmare I wouldn't bother for higher than 150. All the rest should go to magic.
