So we're N7 in ME4/NME/ME:..., and it's all about exploration. But what do you think will be the reason for going on an exploration quest trough the universe?

 

I always hoped the new game would be about finding new paths trough the galaxy, after the destruction of the mass relays and with them the 'old paths'. In ME2 there was a limit to the space around a relay we could visit. Without relays, and with new transportation, we can go beyond those limitations. See everything in the galaxy that couldn't be reached trough relays, because there was no nearby relay. That's why I also was a bit disapointed when in the extending cut the relay were being rebuilt. Exploring the post-relay galaxy, I'd sign up for that. Also would mean it's a sequal.

 

Or is 'exploration' just going into a cave and find a lot group of colonists on some random planet...

Well new relays could be opened up, after all the network itself is massive its just that the scared council species are too afraid to explore. Or it could be a mission to find the remnants of reapers or some reaper cult. Or a dozen other things that would require active exploration and search of new sectors of space.

You play as Sovereign, periodically you have the 'explore' the galaxy for advanced life

That would depend what kind of character we have in the new Mass Effect game.
If we play a mercenary we could get jobs that require our expertise like combat or special searches for missing expeditions or missing people.
We would also need money so we could also search and mine planets for minerals but it would depend on what kind of character Bioware lets us create.
I hope it’s not just another soldier again.

You can't go into a cave with a Mako - I guess it's cruising planetary surfaces.

 

Viewing beautiful places, surprising young nymphs bathing in silvery lakes, dodge comets in a fiery night and headbutt thresher maws on a field of volcanic slag. that kind of thing. The radio plays cool music, too.
