Kaiden is ok. Up until he cracks on to you out of the blue for no reason. Indifferent about Garrus, preferred Wrex. Tali is Shepard's sister in arms. Until she tries to crack on to you out of blue for no reason....

Well that explains why you're such a stick in the mud.
I wasn't aware people viewed me as a stick in the mud. And I wasn't aware that criticism like this is becoming on here.
Or did I make you mad when I put you down in the Cerberus thread?

Strangely, Garrus feels like something else to me. He feels like a hell of a bro, but at the same time, he's just so badass that I almost feel.. beneath him? I remember the first time I played Mass Effect, was in 2010, Mass Effect 2, my friend showed me the game at his house, and we played the Archangel level. He constantly would tell me about Garrus and how much of a badass he was, and when I saw this firsthand, he was like the almighty god of the Mass Effect universe.
He's just too badass for Shepard, and at times I even feel as though my presence pisses him off, when every now and then I go to chat at him, at times he might just be like "Later" or "Not right now" in the most pissed off tone, and I quickly abide by his command. Garrus is less of a bro than he is an idle for me. As for true broship, I'm honestly going to have to go with Kaidan. He's a Sentinel, I'm a Sentinel, we were in it together since the start, and although we had our differences and a bit of a dispute throughout Mass Effect 2 and a bit into Mass Effect 3, we got it sorted out, and in the end, he is my biggest bro.
Edit:
Bust it!
Wait, this is only for femshep!? Well, that would explain why I never saw it... Damnit, I was literally anticipating this moment the entire time, and I looked around everywhere as though I missed it when it didn't pop up. ![]()

But you're the one who made Garrus so badass, Sheps influence in ME:1 is what shaped him in a way, conversations on the right way to do things etc. If it wasn't for Shepard Garrus would just be any other C-Sec cop that likes to bend the rules a bit

No real bromances for my Sheps (maybe Grunt, but he is more like my bloodthirsty little brother...and Zaeed is like a crazy uncle, I guess). My FemShep's got a sismance with Kasumi. I love Samara, but she's not exactly "best friend" material. I would totally have sismanced Jack in ME2, but there comes a point in the dialogue where she tells you to stop talking with her, and you can't go beyond that if you can't/won't romance her (I think Dragon Age produced better candidates for "Sismances"). Morinth had some potential. She loves chess, dancing to asari house music and Vaenia...just like my Shepard! Too bad she's a space succubus.

I believe there is a difference between ROMANCE (the title of this thread) and FRIENDSHIP. Yes, I know the “ideal” is romance + friendship but my definition of romance (in this context) is the squad member who you’re INTIMATE with.
Pardon if I get “emotional” – but the subject of this thread is ROMANCE, yes – and not something like moving sacks of cement. I’ll talk about friendships first, followed by romance. "B-romance" in my definition is the former.
FRIENDSHIP: Garrus has always been my favorite with his laid back, matter-of-fact soft voice. I purposefully missed the sniper trial so he could THINK he was the best shot. I loved that he was so awkward with that Turian babe at the bar and ILMAO when he said “lets go to my place so I show you some big [calibrated] guns” (tour of the Normandy maybe?). Maybe some other kind of “guns”? Oh Garrus, you fart you! ![]()
At the party, I counted 19 people in the picture. I couldn’t help but spend some time looking at each one, calling them out by name & pondering -- seeing MORE than just bodies. As you can expect, the more time you spend with them, the LESS you see their body and the MORE you see of their individual SOUL that you’ve spent so much time discovering. EDI’s character development just blew me away. That takes some real SKILL on Bioware’s development team to pull that off (it did not just “happen”). I can’t think of ANY game that I got to know 19 people so well (21 if you include Kelly & TIM). On that point, I would really miss these characters if the next game did not include the “family”…even if there are some fruits & nuts.
ROMANCE: Since I’m a straight guy, I romanced ALL the “romancable” gals to the tune of “to all the girls I’ve loved
before…..”. As the saying goes “you love those DIFFERENTLY”.
Kelly was undoubtedly my favorite
sweetheart
. She is smart, attentive & there was no deceit, viciousness, or vile in her. I could just kiss her all over….every time I walk past her.
My relationship with Miranda seemed “strained” -- for obvious reasons considering the crap she’s been thru. Okay, she has a great “bod” -- but for me, there’s more to it. I’d rather consider her as a good friend than lover.
Liara was intriguing (for sure) but considerable emotional baggage in ME2 and especially ME3 where she was obviously engulfed by the war (who wasn’t, eh?) . Right now I’m doing the 3 grand slam (again) ; playing ME1 (now),ME2,ME3 all the way thru this time, romancing Liara again. Perhaps I’ll see something new & fresh. In a recent thread, I mentioned that I needed to “kiss off all her freckles”. I had to pick myself off the floor laughing when Mike said “I’d rather shoot them off”
(I love you too Mike, “you evil, evil
bunny you”).
I tried a FEM-shep & somehow (after several hours) it didn’t quite work with me – very awkward. Maybe I’ll give it another try later. On my first try, I worked about 15 minutes configuring my gal. Call it dumb luck -- but this wound up being the most gorgeous “babe” I’ve ever seen (green eyes, blonde). I was about to start a new thread on the forum entitled “My shep is more gorgeous than your shep”. Instead, I cleaned out my save & config folders to start over MaleShep. Later I realized, damn! I never got close again – so I’m persuaded there are combination sequences with numerous possibilities.
My most enjoyable romance was Tali -- considering all the things we went thru, including the drama of her loyalty mission (ME2). On that point, try something FUN like taking Legion on Tali’s loyalty mission and watch the sh*t hit the fan!
Tali just grew and grew on me for some reason & I consider her my very FAVORITE of them all. I’m trying to shrink myself and figure out WHY (considering I’ve never seen her). What comes to mind is -- after taking down supersquid on Rannoch, we sat down (the 2nd best seat in the house) and talked about building a house on “beach front property”. Tali’s request of "I want to come with you” was said in such a compelling
manner that just melted me all over the floor (play violin). I’m such an easy teddy bear. ![]()
You know – with all the griping and bitching (about ME3’s ending) that goes on in this forum -- I admit, I contributed some too (slap my hand), I’ve really got to hand it to Bioware. For every compliment (like this), they likely get 9 sh*ts thrown in their face. If any of you guys out there know their mail box, then copy-paste the next paragraph & send it to them.
Of some 100 games I’ve played, there has never been a series that literally GROWS on me the more I play it. The first time I played ME1, I’d give it a 5. Now after 9 plays, I’d give it an 8. ME2 was an instant 10 for me. ME3 was a 4 the first time. Then playing it repeatedly, enjoying 99% of the game, I could ignore the “questionable” 1% ending. Now a 9. The script, wording, story, deep thought, and superb directing of the dialogues is just remarkable! Just the other night (in ME3), I paused & thought to myself that this game [strangely] has evolved in my mind from okay, to good, to great, to terrific, to awesome, to beyond phenomenal. If I were to magically appear in the development team’s room – I would have only GOOD things to say to the guys – as Ashley put it “you’re standing in the presence of a god”. It was MORE than the Bioware team spilling their blood & guts to meet “deadline” – I can tell they put their heart into it fully. On that, I believe I’m in GREAT company -- as evidenced by the past & CURRENT activity in the series that continues to endure – where other games fade into obscurity.
Apologies if I rambled too much & bored some of you.

I'm not so sure how well characters of the ASOIAF caliber would last in an RPG setting. They'd basically have to have the thickest plot armor available to avoid being murdered in droves by players. Heck, I'd probably just end up killing everyone and setting their homes on fire and leaving a river of blood to flow from their shattered estates should the option exist.

In contrast, I think they're all far better characters than the vast majority of anything presented in Mass Effect. I'd prefer a game that follows the conventions in there more than more Garrus, Tali, and Liara clones.

I suppose that better is a matter of perspective. The list of characters that I don't want to be eviscerated slowly by some kind of rusted, cranking razor machine is miniscule, but at least the ones I do have either died horribly already, or are probably on their way at some point. To be honest, if BioWare were to follow in GRRM's footsteps in terms of the character ensemble, I'd probably spend the entire game hating everyone and trying to kill them. Not exactly the most relaxing way to spend time with my PS3 lol.

Depends on the characters: The Freys, yeah, everybody wants to see them dead. Same with the Boltons (God, Wyman Manderly is a beautiful, fat, magnificent bastard for what he did, and he's the closest to a male character I'd ever want to French kiss. Yes, the Freys and Boltons pissed me - ME - off that much.) I also think it's high time GRRM started his outside perspective of Daenerys that shows she's a nutcase too. She really needs a smack-down of reality.
Gregor Clegane is 'dead' (though Robert Strong isn't, so take that how you will), and most of the idiot characters are gone too imo. And for some odd reason, I actually think the Lannisters are alright for the most part, except Cersei.
My favorites right now are Jaime, Jon, Stannis, Davos, Doran Martell, Tyrion, Bronn, the Hound, and Littlefinger, and I do think the Tyrells are alright, mainly because they completely whoop Cersei's ass at the Game. I'm starting to support some of the Greyjoys a bit more too; Theon/Reek rivals Jaime for character development. I 'like' Daenerys, but she needs a serious break from her high horse. She needs to drop the self-superior, self-righteous entitlement she has, lose her messiah/savior complex, get a healthy dose of reality to both Essos and Westeros, and learn a thing or two about the country she wants to conquer. She's a terrible ruler, seeing as what she's done to slaver's bay, and I suspect she is indeed unstable. Honestly, I think she is actually going to be set up as a villain ultimately. The only thing she's really good at is conquering, and anyone can be a good conqueror when you have three dragons/organic nuclear bombs. But I'm glad reality is starting to finally bite her in the ass a bit. Her inability to rule or keep good counsel is finally coming into play. Granted, I want to see fAegon fail with his conquest (until/unless he gets better characterization), and see Dany come after she's gotten her reality check and realize that she doesn't have such a right to rule after all. I honestly see her and Jon getting together (though I don't ship them, since I ship Jon/Val ever since Martin killed Jon/Ygritte).
As I said, besides the Freys and the Boltons (Roose is slightly ok, while Ramsay it's completely nuts) and a few various named characters about (UnCat/Lady Stoneheart comes to mind), most of the people I hate are dead already. Which mostly consists of Joffrey and The Mountain. Otherwise, everybody else is too complex to truly 'hate' in my opinion.

Playing as a gay Shepard.. Kaiden as my lover (usually) - hacked the game from ME1. Bro would be: ME1: Wrex. ME2: Garrus and Zaeed, though Thane was a close second. I also hung out with Samara (I loved Samara) a lot. ME3: Garrus, and Javik with Kaiden as my lover.
Playing a a straight Shepard... Maranda (usually - though Jack sometimes) as my lover- pretty much all the same as above except in ME3. ME3 was Garrus and Kaiden. Javik was sort of an advisor.
James pissed me off from the beginning of ME3 wearing a t-shirt with dog tags hanging out. Felt like a stupid attempt to appeal to the COD kiddies. But James did grow on me.
Mordin was never a "bro". But my Shepard did consider him a close friend. And Legion, both my Shepard's were freaked out by Legion. They respected Legion, just never fully understood him.
Grunt. Grunt has a special place in all my games. Sort of like the kid of the ship - a very big kid.
Joker was also a "bro", by the way.

As far as a 'bromance' goes by my personal observation of it, really only 3 characters in the game qualify in that aspect: Joker, Garrus, and Vega. I suppose Wrex does too to a degree.
As I've said, I'm personally against this kind of characterization of my Shepard and his companions relationship in this manner.
