You walked right into it.

We're not discussing people who don't have close friends, we're discussing people who choose to not have close friends, who takes offense to the prospect of having "bros". Like you and the Doctor.

In the interest of science, I would like to know why you choose to contain your share of close friendship to family members.

Likewise, if the Doctor is willing to elaborate, I would like to know why he "doesn't do bros".

I refer to the Doctor as a stick-in-the-mud because from what I've read, he comes across like a joyless, contrarian, moral edgemaster the likes of which I have grown incredibly tired of seeing parade around the internet. An exceedingly large share of them have been Cerberus supporters, because the racist and moral relativist beliefs of Cerberus in contrast to the cleanlier and friendlier Aliance resonates well with their inner contrarianism and hatred for deeply rooted social norms imposed on our species by evolution over the last 200,000 years. This is exacerbated by the fact that Cerberus isn't well-written enough for anyone with half a mind to take it seriously - yet people do. This indelicately implies a deficiency in sound judgement and logic.

I don't mind difference. It's contrarianism which grinds my gears. Some motherf***ers always trying to paddle upstreams.

So essentially, you're pissed off of over a massive mind-projection fallacy, supported by naturalistic fallacies (and moralistic fallacies) and an appeal to tradition? You're angry because people actually support things you despise, and since you despise those things, you can't understand how some of those things might appeal to others (and that's leaving out the biased straw-man against my opinions based on said mind-projection that you've built around such ideas of yours.)

I don't care that you're tired of seeing people with my views or opinions (or however you skew them or lump them together). I'm under no obligation to beholden myself to your views or opinions or values. I don't care that it makes you mad to see people don't believe in your vision of reality. I don't care about you getting mad about people 'parading it on the internet'. It's your problem, not mine. I suggest you deal with your emotional distress.

I don't give a crap about the interest of science. And no you don't need to know.

Do you even understand the fallacies you like to cite so much?

Why are you so concerned if people don't have close friends?

Because it is abberant and deserves an explanation.

Have you ever thought they may not want to have close friends?

Yes, and there is usually a reason why. The reason is important to understand the person. Without understanding a person, I have no way of knowing whether or not they are a threat to me or my environment. Close social interaction is what allows me to evaluate a person's intentions.

Just because you do, doesn't mean everyone else should. Right?

No, but it still warrants an explanation. I want to understand you the same way I want to understand the other 7 billion people sharing this earth with us. My understanding is what allows me to avoid and identify dangers, and pursue things that are beneficial to me and the people upon whom I depend, and who depends on me.

I don't give a crap about the interest of science.

Maybe that's the problem. Ignorance is mankind's greatest affliction, and the source of all its woes.

And no you don't need to know.

I would argue that I do, but I cannot and would not force you to answer even if I could. I will simply have to tread lightly.

Yes, I do. Very much so. I wouldn't cite them if I didn't understand them. I can even explain how each applies to your statements.

I think your statements are very incondusive. You want to understand others, yet you dismiss them for not appealing to your own sensibilities. And it's a dishonest argument. You're trying to make a theoretical/notional statement about others to try and claim an application to your own life. The answer isn't that you care, it's that you can't believe people have differences.

Legion is muh Brobot. I always skip everything I can and do the derelict reaper mission as soon as possible, then we go gallavanting around the galaxy kicking merc arses and exchanging dialouge rife with silly organic-synthetic misunderstanding hijinks, while my non essential crew gets turned into reaper slushy.

Kaidan would have been kinda bro, but well, m/m romance!

To quote another, 'I don't really do 'bro'', however, I mean it in a totally different way. I only mean that I don't look for an exclusively male (or possibly just 'masculine toned') close friendship.

For ME2 this might be Thane and Legion. Until I meet them, I'm just coasting along!

For ME3 there is a bit with Javik (but at a certain distance).... yep.

So I guess I just have, if anyone:

1)Thane

2)Legion

3)Javik

4)Kaidan

-Not bro with Ashley, died on Virmire

-Can't be bro with Liara, but I do missions with her occasionally

-I don't fall into Wrex bro love, but I enjoy his character, and agree with him when he goes "Shepard! My friend!"

-I don't AT ALL fall into Garrus bro love like it seems so many do, but I also accept and somewhat enjoy his character

-Don't feel the bro at all with Tali, and I use her less than Liara

-Not bro at all with Jacob. I say what I need to say to him to keep things going, but I don't feel a connection.

-Not bro with Miranda, and didn't enjoy her that much in ME2. Citadel DLC had to be the content that finally turned me around with her. Not a fan of ass shots (male or female).

-Not bro with Jack, but friendly-ish towards her.

-Not bro with Grunt, but friendly towards him.

-Not bro with Mordin, and honestly, pretty neutral towards him compared to other players, but still friendly and want the best for him.

-...Kinda 'bro-ish' (if you can even be that) with Samara. I do feel some more of the companionship, but it isn't like I bring her on all the missions.

-Not bro with Zaeed, but might have been if he was a more fully fledged character in ME2.

-Feel like I kinda 'want to' be bro with Kasumi, but it just isn't happening. I would love if a theory a friend has about everything being a simulation that a Kasumi is hacking into is correct, if only to meet the 'real' Kasumi that I feel I might REALLY love. Erm, anyway.

-Not bro with James and while I'm alright with his character, there's only so much sexual teasing scenes I can take :'(. I'm glad he isn't as totally shallow as the very first impressions of him appeared though.

-I don't think I can be 'bro' with EDI... but I still used her for missions a good deal.

ME1: Kaidan + Anyone... then Kaidan + Liara or Wrex for final fight

ME2: Anyone + Anyone... until I got other characters, which eventually became Thane + Anyone... then Tali + Legion stuff for their deal... then Thane + Legion

ME3: I used everyone but Kaidan a lot once I got him, and I more avoided Tali and Garrus except on rare times. Javik, Liara, EDI saw use. I was kinda in the middle for James.. not avoiding him but not really caring if he came along.

I'm going to try this in my next game. Always in the past, I waited until the end to get Legion, did its LM, then straight through the Omega-4 relay.

On my last ME2 playthrough, I took Legion on Tali's recruitment mission. The scene with Kal'Reeger is funny as well as the one with Tali when she see's Legion. Taking Legion to the flotilla for Tali's loyalty mission is funny as well.

I watched youtube clips of Legion on Tali's LM, but it's not the same as playing through it.

You're right. It s better doing it yourself.

What I may do the next time is hold off seeing Anderson till after I get Legion and bring Legion on the Citadel.

Additionally, If you save the council, Legion will have an opinion to voice, and if you use the renegade check in the Turian's hunting supplies store, it will also trigger an exchange between the clerk and Legion.

Bring it to Overlord as well. Dr. Archer has unique dialogue directed at it. It also has some funny lines on Samara's recruitment mission, and will argue with both Tali and Grunt about the Morning War vs Krogan self destruction of Tuchanka if you bring it along there with either of them.

Since I never save the council, Legion will never see them. I might take it on the Overlord dlc. Not sure when I'll start another ME2 playthrough.

If you are already predisposed to hating the original council (as I am) the exchange will just reaffirm your hatred of them even more, anyway.

Garrus was definitely my bro. Zaeed did really feel like a crazy but awesome uncle who you get all the cool war stories and off beat advice from, while Grunt was like the child me and miranda didn't have, but are sincerely glad exists without her having to give birth to.

The vast majority of people thought Garrus was their bro, because he's more or less written to be and the player has little choice there.

While I liked Garrus, I actually considered Kaidan my bro.

What is a bromance? Do you mean which one of the guys would I support in terms of hooking up with someone? In Mass Effect 1 when Kaidan told me Liara is easy on the eyes and how he saw her first, I kept expect to walk into the lab where Liara sits and see her leaning forward against the table with Kaidan behind her. As for Garrus, him and Tali were already planing in the battery control room. I suspect Jacob was messing around with Miranda. Joker knows he was getting his you-know-what suck by EDI.

Like love though it's an experience that has to be felt to be understood.

Oh... well I feel embarrassed now. In Mass Effect 1 Kaidan was my best bud. He is basically my medic and tech support guy, and he does not complain as much unlike the rest of my crew. He can have 3 second brother hugs. In 2 it would have to be Jacob because the way he talks about people is sometimes hilarious. "The Alliance wasn't doing anything, I am tired of their bull", "Cerebus. You honstly won't find anybody with a more checkered past.", "hell of a way to tell the boss you're quitting." In 3 it would probably be Kaidan again or James.

Pretty much. Kaidan was my Shep's only real friend along with Dr. Chakwaas. Then he became his love. Garrus was too much of a butt kisser and Liara was just some chick who liked my Shep.

ME1

My Shepard had to choose between the woman he loves and his best friend.

Shame he couldn't  save them both.

Bioware played with the idea though

In ME1 Shepard feels more like his mentor.

But in ME2 and 3 he becomes a true friend.

He only has a slight edge on Grunt

Not sure this counts since I was a femshep. But my main FemShep has 'bromances' with all the male characters except Jacob and Kaidan (I avoided speaking to them because of the forced flirting/ninjamance). But the top ones would be Garrus and Wrex since they been with her all the way. Kasumi, Jack, Samara and Miranda were pretty good BFFs for her.
