Because someone made a thread about negative world states, i got to thinking about the possible good ones, then recalled how the King or Queen of Ferelden grant boons to the hero if they are still alive.

The most curious boon to me, is the one that allows for the Elves/Dalish to have a land of their own. I think it was pretty much everything south of Ostagar was given to them. In DA2,  I think they glance over this.. as you'd think that Merril's clan would have b-lined it back to Ferelden in a quick hurry if they knew about that.

The Elves having a homeland again would kind of draw other spin-off material into question though wouldn't it?

It's likely the unworkable boons will be retconned, such as the Dalish Boon. Which is unfortunate, and I almost wish they hadn't had them in the first place.

I believe that one of the developers confirmed that the Dalish boon had been retconned, via Twitter.  Lob was the one to mention it, so you'd have to ask him.

And the mage boon was disproven as well.  Seems like Ferelden's monarchy aren't very good at keeping promises.

MRW I remember I chose the Circle autonomy boon

Spoiler

If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably getting retconned.  If Alistair is King of Ferelden and your Dalish PC chose the boon that grants land to the People, in your DAII imports he'll mention to your Hawke (I can't remember if Merrill needs to be brought along as well, but the video I've seen of it includes her) that the boon went sideways and that he plans to make it up to them, as he "owes an old friend...too much to do otherwise."  I doubt it'll stick though.

I should have chosen the statue.

They've said that pretty much all the ending slides were 'rumors' of what 'might' have happened, which is probably their way of saying that it will be retconned so there aren't a million variables, hahah. Sucks but what can you do.

I don't think we'll see any. The Mage Boon was rejected by the Chantry. The Dalish Boon went badly due to unspecified factors. The others, if they still exist, don't seem relevant enough for the Inquisitor to run into them.

Considering that if you don't import anything, then the default world state has a Dalish Warden having done the ultimate sacrifice, so the Hinterlands boon MAY actually get a mention at least.

It's unfortunate, because the rewards for our actions were basically handwaved. The consequences of the Magi Boon - Cullen's insanity and the mages not establishing an independent Circle in Orzammar - were rectonned. Perhaps it'll be mentioned by the new ruler during the Mage-Templar War, or maybe it'll be a repeat of Awakening and Witch Hunt and ignore it.

Laidlaw said on twitter that the Hinterlands won't be different (i.e. the Dalish populating and governing the Hinterlands), so the consequences of the Dalish Boon will apparently be rectonned as well.

Like DA2, I assume some will get an explanation for why they don't matter and others will be ignored.

They mention the Circle Boon in Dragon Age 2 during Alistair's cameo. Not whether or not it had any effect, but Meredith will be all, "YOU SUCKY MAGE-SYMPATHETIC SCUM. DOn'T COME HERE AND TELL ME HOW TO RUN MY BUSINESS"

So the Warden that saved the world from complete annihilation makes one request... which then gets ignored because 'reasons'. Pretty sloppy if you ask me.

I think it's more along the lines of "The way society works doesn't change just because one person makes a request, even if that person did save the world."

That's why I always ask for the title and riches. Ain't setting the circle free, ain't giving the dalish a homeland, ain't improving the lot of the city elves, but at least I got Gwaren.

I look at it as an artifact of not being sure if they were going to be able to make additional entries into the franchise.  Had DA:O bombed, that would have been the end for Thedas, and an 'upbeat' conclusion to the story.  But it didn't fit what they came up with as their long term plans for the setting once they knew they were going to be making more DA games.  So it was easier to just say "Everything you saw between killing the AD and walking up the path to Amaranthine in Awakenings?  Yeah, that didn't happen.  None of it.  Carry on."

The city elf boon is probably the only one that would actually benefit from a retcon, considering that it always ended up in murder in the origins epilogue.

In an epilogue which never actually appeared without modding

It didn't if the elven Warden became Bann; it's arguably the best ending for the elves of the Denerim Alienage. It reads:

“With <FirstName/> as their new voice, the elves became prosperous in a way they had never known... enough to draw elves from nearby lands, desperate for real hope. The influx built ire among the human population and eventually resulted in a riot in Denerim, showing that as much as things change, they always stay the same.”

The more i keep hearing the more my dislike for having done anything in the past games grows. I feel like im being jerked around. If my Dalish Elf had heard how Alistair had reneged on his promise to give land to my people, it would have meant War. I would have left Amaranthine to have been sacked by intelligent Darkspawn, and waited for the king to have to do something about it with his own armies, and when they were weakened, killed them all and the Darkspawn to with a joint Dalish Elf, City Elf, and Dwarven Golem army.
