If that is true why does it appear black all the time now
If we back to what Solas said, when everyone thought it was gold it looked gold, now everyone thinks it's black so it looks black.

Perspective. The all seeing eye. Illuminati.....If we back to what Solas said, when everyone thought it was gold it looked gold, now everyone thinks it's black so it looks black.
I'm with everyone that says the Black City was a prison. The Veil didn't always exist. Almost every creation myth agrees on this. So whoever or whatever created the Veil to the Fade created it in an attempt to seal whatever it is the Black City was holding. When the Magisters entered the Black City they let it out in the form of the Taint.
And my pet theory as to the motivations of the Old Gods... The Veil made them 'tranquil'.
I'm very much in agreement that the city was never golden, but being a prison sounds interesting.

Then why does Avernus still see it as black when he doesn't believe in the story of the magisters tainting the city?
The Fade is a realm of thought... emotions, dreams, etc.
Philosophically - if the Golden City represented unattainable perfection - then achieving it (which is impossible for mortals no matter much they cry about it) would be an act of hubris. Since a mortal can't understand perfection - it would have altered the City - evidently from gold to Black.
The Fade being actively reactive turned the city from Golden perfect - to black corruption - based on the beings that got there. The corruption took on a life of it's own... and the taint was born.
Of course it could be something totally different, but I believe that to understand the concepts they're trying to get across - you need to be able to think abstractly.

Whether he believes the story or not he accepts it's black now, so he sees black.
Well what we know for a fact is it is now black, the Darkspawn were created from the Black/Golden city, that it looked black for sure after the darkspawn. The Black city is a source of huge power (unkown if its good or bad), Lastly the magistor did talk about reaching the city means that they did reach it. These are the facts that we know are 100%.
Kingdom Hearts resides within the Black City
Its a black city cause of me.
I grabbed some paint and started painting, went mad painting everything on a rampage....and now the city is black.
What we know about the City:
1. It's the one constant thing about the Fade.
Maybe it's being projected by someone or something.
2. The taint originates from there. Avernus says something is calling him there. Also Corypheus, one of the original magisters got his taint from the City.
Still can't believe there was no dialogue option like "What did the City look like?" "How'd you even get there exactly?".
---------
And that's it really. I don't know if they plan to reveal anything more, hopefully they do. This is a lot more interesting than the actual plot of the games.
I'd like some games where they make use of the lore they established. They use darkspawn but never really say anything about them other than they want to kill you, or anything similar to that.
How did the darkspawn get to thedas?
Also i should know this but how did the magisters who were turned darkspawn make more darkspawn?

I think the magisters already had an army before they even turned into darkspawn, then they just tainted their men after. I mean they are magisters, meaning they must rule some part of Tevinter (Tevinter being the whole world at that point)
I find it hard to believe that they got tainted, went underground, built an army, and found Dumat all in one year.
Their blood caused it, that is definite, but how the blood got to the others, unsure....
We are pretty sure the humans caused it. ![]()
guess that makes sense but still did they just leave the fade right when they got tainted? like the taint force them out of the fade or did they leave on there own?
Not certain to be honest, I wonder if DA:I will give us more information on Black City or just leave as is.
Maybe limited timing could of caused their departure as an option?
maybe but i doubt it
I doubt that as well, just threw it out there.
I seriously doubt the case with the city is that people believe its there, so its there otherwise it seems we'd have some kind of document or other from Qunari mages, hedge mages, etc. that mention they don't see a city in the fade. I'm also not sure I'd get along with Solas if he's suggesting not believing demons and spirits with questionable morality aren't a threat as long as you don't believe they're a threat.
And my pet theory as to the motivations of the Old Gods... The Veil made them 'tranquil'.
Tranquil don't really have motivations, though. They just do as they're told.
that makes alot of sense and why the darkspawn go back to the deep roads when there is no Archdemon commanding them.
Maybe it was always black
Well, the city is famous for being visible from practically anywhere you can see the Fade's sky. Records and people say it was Golden, so it was probably Golden.
Anyone who went into the Fade before it turned Black would know this, and it would be commonly and well known. I suppose it could have been actually Black the whole time due to an illusion, but isn't illusion what the whole Fade is made up of in the first place?
My personal theory has to do with the whole unattainable perfection thing mentioned above. It's not that the magisters corrupted the city with their presence and it started turning black the moment they stepped inside... I think the truth is they couldn't really enter the city in its pure state. They couldn't enter a Golden City that wasn't already Black and corrupt, and forcing their way in is what turned it Black since it would admit them on no other condition.
As for how the Darkspawn taint ties into all of this... Well. It strikes me that the Magisters were seeking the power of the city for their own, and I'm inclined to believe they were partially successful. They are immortal after all, and capable of reshaping and creating new life which needs neither food or drink. I'm sure they were after that sort of thing when they were trying to get into the Golden City.
However, it's obvious that the power and immortality they sought didn't come in the form they were expecting. Still, it IS power over life, immortality, and all of that cool ****. I've always had the feeling that the Darkspawn represent some sort of corrupted Divine force of Creation set loose in the world.
In the end, I still wonder how much the Old Gods knew and why the Darkspawn are driven to seek them out. It's hard to understand what the Black City's agenda is in that regard.
yea hopefully in DAI we know more about the darkspawn or the black city.
im sure we will learn more about the black city since theres a big hole in the sky to the fade
I really hope we get more depth about the Black City. Like how it was founded, what meant Corypheus words so on. I find this piece of lore extremely interesting.
I was talking about this with my brothers today and one of them had the theory that you can only 'see' the Golden City once your are in the Black City. In darkness, there is light so to say. The other thought that the Golden City was never there and that demons spawn from the Black City, that the Breach is a direct tear in the fade to the Black City, unleashing the demons there on Thedas
