What if the Golden City truly was a city where ancient elven dreamers (and their gods) lived?

In the comics a single dreamer (using dragon blood) was able to ensnare a whole army + demons and create a fortress. Can you imagine what thousands of ancient elven dreamers are capable of?

What if the old gods were imprisoned deep within the city and that elven dreamers were the "prison guards"

We know many elves died + dreamers were killed by thier servants. With no guards the old gods where able to communicate /fan theory

I always thought that what Corypheus was talking about was the moment the city turned black, when they entered it. That he was lamenting that the city was supposed to be golden, was supposed to be ours but that Dumat hadn't foreseen that it would turn black the moment they set foot in there.

It doesn't explain why Avernus still hears a "beautiful voice" from the Black City, all the magisters were thrown out, and none of the old gods are in there. The Maker supposedly isn't in there either and the elven gods were all tricked by the dread wolf into prisons. So what is still in there?

The city already being black even before the magisters set foot in there is an exciting concept though.

Well, I tend to assume that the blackening was due to the magisters, whatever the mechanics of that event may have been.

Anyhow, music, songs, and voices all seem to be very important in Dragon Age... But I don't feel like getting into that here. Needless to say that varieties of Lyrium are known to sing, the Darkspawn are driven on by a beautiful song they all hear, and it was Andraste's singing that called the Maker to her. Singing seems to be subtly built up as important here. Well, technically the Taint supposedly carries power similar to Lyrium, so it probably fits in the same sort of category.

Sources of magic sing.

In my personal opinion, whatever force currently occupies the Black City has probably been as twisted and corrupted as the Black City itself.

Now, when it comes down to it, the "Taint" is something capable of sustaining, growing, repairing, and maintaining Life. It doesn't need to be fed. Those things which possess it eventually don't need to eat and won't die of natural causes. They grow without intaking nutrients or anything, and they all hear a song that guides them.

So yeah. I hold to my theory that the Magisters unleashed a force of creation, but in corrupted form. They found some essence of immortality or something, but it went bad. It still made them immortal, but not in the way they would have preferred.
