It always bugged me that after ME1, they do the exact same thing. Theoretically them making the same movements and saying the same words like they did has like a 0.00000000 chance of happening. I understand suspending disbelief, but come on.

What would've been cool would be to see them have completely seperate stories, depending on who you save. That would actually add to their character and make having to choose who to save on Virmire more dramatic and feel like it changes the course of the story, to an extent. I'm not saying have Ashley DLC and Kaidan: Lair of the hair gel, but come on, what we got from them after ME sucked.

It's difficult to call it anything other than laziness. Maybe they should spend more money on that next time and less on kinect. It had to have been disappointing to play ME2 which each VS and realizing they're the exact same, other than a few lines. Gift of youtube, I guess.

They are humans. They are kinda predictable. What did you expect? That they had grown wings and fly in the air on a unknown planet.

I disliked how I spent around 20 minutes fighting bug people, and they just wonder out from behind a box after they are all dead. Did you not here the shooting and screams? I may be a merc with a awesome squad, but I was still outnumbered.

Umm. The entire colony was frozen in stasis. In fact, you even see the VS getting frozen in a cut scene. Kind of hard to help when you can't move.

OP, I would agree there, it really seemed unfortunate that "The Virmire Survivor" really just became one entity despite comprising two people who are on POLAR ends of the spectrum: I think back to ME1 and remember,

Kaidan: "it made me see how human aliens are. They're jerks and saints just like us..."

Ashley: "with all due respect sir, should they be allowed full access to sensitive areas?"

At least they made them (somewhat) different in 3 though...

on a side note, you ever wonder how they both got promoted so fast? I mean, from lieutenant to MAJOR & gunnery chief (sergeant) to LIEUTENANT COMMANDER in two years?! Are you serious? On what merit? Being a backup stage dancer to Shepard saving the galaxy in me1, or UTTERLY failing to defend a colony in me2?which "accomplishment" warranted you skipping 6-10 ranks?

The promotions were a little weird. Not necessarily because of anything they did or didn't do, but just because they make completely nonsensical leaps up the chain of command. In ME3 Ashley probably should have been an Operations Chief or a 2nd Lieutenant (if commissioned), and Kaidan a Lt. Commander.

Kaidan is Staff Commander in ME2 and Major in ME3.

According to military ranks in Alliance he is promoted twice in the time period from ME1 to ME2 and once - from ME2 to ME3.

Stopping Saren is a big plus in a service record. Combine that with his devotion to the Alliance and following orders and it looks quite natural.

Ashley, on the other hand, is a bit of a mystery. She is promoted once from ME1 to ME2 and four times from ME2 to ME3. I guess Udina pulled a few strings

Shepard stops Saren. Destroys the Collectors after being brought back from death and yet still after having saved the galaxy TWICE! your still just a Commander?????? I have problems with this. And yet they still want you to save them in 3 but you know your rank is like nothing apparently in the game so I will remain confused by the ranking in the Mass Effect series.

If you are a spacer doesn't mom get promoted from ME2 to ME3?  She is right up there with Hackett by the end.

Udina clearly also paid for her botox and lip job.
