Is it acceptable to use exploits in the game? I'm a (mainly) 360 player and I have found an exploit that allows me to level up to whatever I want pretty early the game without actual modding or cheating in any way. I don't want to go into detail on what it is unless asked for fear of a patch being made to fix it..... suffice it to say it's like the one that was in DA2 till it got patched. although takes more time :P

It's your game, play it however it makes you happy.

As for getting patched, that's pretty unlikely at this point.

It's up to you as the solo player to set your own rules of play and conduct. For me, XP exploits tend to ruin the pacing and the story, so I pass on using them as these are key elements of the game.

However, gold, shopping, long treks hauling loot, etc are close to tedium for me, so I do not mind using Console Commands or exploits to reduce this issue for me. No need to spam potion crafting; simply gather round the altar with the party (including Dog) and release Asunder with each individual. While some may balk at the RP issues, nothing I cannot kill later....

:D

They've stopped making patches long ago, and the Lothering trap exploit is pretty well known anyway.

Well I'm trying out new character builds that I never have, so it's kinda just for me I guess. Right now I'm doing a Dalish rogue archer and I feel like he would be more experienced with a bow than say a Noble or even alienage elf would. The RP aspect is more there (to me) for this playthrough than it normally is.

I've never used console commands (I have added mods though)on the PC and I feel that is my next step as I wait for DA:I

I don't know that one.... mine is in Ostagar.

How does that one work?

Yeah, Ostagar has one as well.

You can repeat the Lothering trap quest ad infinitum. I.e. keep making traps for the girl and you get xp and 50 silver for every batch.

They patched the level trick at Ostagar  on PS3. The Lothering one should still be there.

Don't you have to buy the material to make the stuff? Plus the one at Ostagar give you 750 xp and takes roughly 3 seconds to do each time

You have to buy the materials but you make a pretty good profit.

Also, as Mike3207 mentioned the Ostagar exploit was patched on most platforms.

Apparently not the 360 B) cause i stopped at level 16 and then did the whole battle thing :)

Also, i can still go to lothering so i'm gonna do that one too, just not on this playthrough

Barlin in the tavern sells endless trap triggers, you can make a profit of about 15 gold per 100 traps.

This is a subject that has come up in various games, and I am a rare Player that falls somewhere in the middle. Some believe that one cannot cheat in a solo game, and others feel that anything outside of the Vanilla intended experience is invalid.

Personally, I believe the Player sets the rules for Solo games; thus can abide by or break such rules. In the case of XP exploits and commands, I limit myself so to maintain challenges, storylines, etc. And when I misuse these by exceeding my intended purpose, I 'cheat' myself from the experience I desired.

So if you are fine with granting your Dalish Archer more experience based on RP, that is your personal rule. However, I recommend Saves in case the game becomes far too easy, and you discover yourself complaining or becoming bored later. Plus, all can get to the same cap; some simply do this faster than others.

P.S. There is a legit belt for sale in Denerim which increases XP for Codex entries, but going early may lessen other rewards in Denerim later.

The XP increase is even pretty significant.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from!

I don't usually mod, cheat, or exploit games when I play them for the first time(s), but I have been playing DA:O for 4+ years and right now I'm just having fun with it! I play KOTOR on pc because it's so easy and fun to mod!

Believe me, I had no DLC when Origins first came out and played soley vanilla! I had so much fun with the story and all the choices!

I played a female City Elf rogue who killed Vaughn and she was just simply fantastic! Now 4+ years later I've bought everything or gotten codes from awesome Gamestop employees and well.... quite frankly, it's gotten stale.  Basically, my thought process now is: why not?

With Skyrim, this is why I got into Modding more than before. I had 700+ hrs with only one mod, then began to see some of the possibilities that modding offered; now have 2800+ hrs in the game.

For DAO, I utilize Extra Dog Slot, Character Respec, and Bash Lock mods, plus a few others to restore items and the like. But my initial sessions were basic, as they generally tend to be, and added things later to alter and tailor my own experience.

On the PC my DA:O games have mainly cosmetic mods on them (tattoos, hair, clothes) I do have some extra content (Cullen romance for female mage before Ostagar) and the bash lock is a must!! Nothing like rushing all your enemies with a party full of warriors who can open stuff!! lol

I've always  wanted to play skyrim on PC for the mods! I have seen some AMAZING mods for it (STAR WARS!!!) and have always wanted to do it, but not sure my laptop could handle it and the mods...

From what I've seen, the DA fandom is far more tolerant and accepting of cheats, exploits, god items, workarounds, etc. than they are of cosmetic mods like hairstyles and redone NPC morphs. That said, it's a single player game, and what one person does in the way of modding or how they play their game is no one else's business. (IMO.)

I'm not really into doing XP exploits, tbh.  I'd rather spam the duplication and money glitches to get a ton of Arcane and Physical Technique tomes.  It really fits for a magi Warden because from a RP standpoint, it makes more sense for said Warden to already know plenty of spells, not just a few to start with before learning others one at a time while travelling around and killing things.

Of course, this makes the game ridiculously easy due to the massive boosts to the stats that each class revolves around (warrior: strength and constitution, rogue: dexterity and cunning, and mage: magic and willpower).  Doing this can also mess up your leveling down the road due to leaving you with no available spells/talents/abilities to learn, forcing you to do the Auto Level-up option.

tbh, with my mages I limit myself to using 10 Arcane tomes and 7-9 Physical tomes for my warriors and rogues so as to limit this from happening.  Dog and Shale are special cases due to dog rarely getting ability points and Shale having a fairly limited ability set when compared to everyone else.  With them, I limit myself to giving them 5-6 Physical tomes.

The money glitch also gives you a chance to buy the legendary weapons, armor, and Spellward from Bodahn right after Lothering.  When you leave camp and go back to it, Bodahn will have readded said equipment to his inventory, allowing you to buy all of it again.  Just a little FYI if you didn't already know (want to do a dual-wield warrior with 2 of the axe you can buy from him  :P).

I do something similar with the above glitches, although I add about 25 spells instead of 10. I also add about 20 skill points to get most of the non-crafting skills.

Okay, I must know: How do you manage to get so many spell tomes/skill books? I don't know this glitch. :)

Okay, I must know: How do you manage to get so many spell tomes/skill books? I don't know this glitch. :)

You use the same for infinite money as you do infinite tomes. You take 2-3 tomes(has to be at least 2), put it in Junk, sell all to the merchant vendor. You then buy all but 1 back. You then prepare to sell the remaining back in Junk, but then press triangle and square at the same time. If done right, you'll end up doubling the number of tomes(or other items) the merchant has in store.

That's what I remember from memory, but the wikia has a full workup on this glitch. Just remember to only have one type of tomes in inventory, and follow the tips in the wikia entry.
