What kind of "favourite villain" are they asking for, though? The ones whom we love to hate, that get us fired up and angry? Or those villains who are so by way of circumstance; the people the end up in opposition to our PCs for varied reasons?

If the first, I effing loathed Meredith, the sanctimonious psycho. She was only enhanced by red lyrium, not created by it.

If the second, the Arishok. He would have killed thousands of Kirkwallers, yet given security, purpose and equality for all the others.

Once again I seem to be in the minority, I'm shocked by the admiration of the Arishok as a character, totally shocked.  The guy was an utter buffoon but I guess even if a buffon talks down to you and is arrogant and condescending then there must be something hidden that he knows about that you don't.  The Arishok utterly failed at very thing he put his hands to.

Feathers McGraw, a jewel thief who of course was out smarted by Wallace and Gromitt.

Thanks. Must have seen it on Cartoon Network as a kid or something.

They all had there pro's and Con's but The architect is the best villain who I put down 9 times out of 10.  I mean he didn't have something poisoning his mind or some code to make him do what he did and what he planned to do if you don't put him down. After reading the book/playing awakening it is my opinion that he has no regard for anyone but himself and his cause, like a certain mage we all know.  So To me he is the best Villain out of the three.

(oh does anyone else think that the architect is one of the original magisters?)

If were talking Villains, however, in all Dragon Age, Corypheus would definitely win. He has everything - he has no Justification, he is a complete Monster, he provides and integral Part of the World's History and he as the most epic Battle in DA2.

Because in a city filled with self-serving schemers, scumbags, cowards and bullies, the Arishok was a beacon of integrity and honesty. He never lies, he never deceives, he never pretends to be other than what he is. He lives, and dies, by his code. He is the most honourable character you meet in DA2.

I don't hate any of the three, but my favorite was definitely the Arishok. He was the best written, acted and most importantly, consistent of the three. Meredith went randomly batshit because of some red lyrium, and the architect was two different characters in The Calling and in Awakening.

Arishock by far, without a doubt, the other two aren't even close. In fact, the Arishock should be offended to be compared to those two.

Howe. He's personal, you know. Even though I hate him, he's the best criminal ever. Even Solas doesn't have the same level of 'Im gonna kill you.... You murdered my family!" Sort of thing going on with him. Yeah, you can romance Solas, who'll abandon you twice, but it's nothing compared to feeling like your all alone as all your family died in the hands of Howe. And Howe is dumb, he was just asking be killed, but yeah, he's the most personal Villian I've ever faced in game before.

But I do like the Archertic is best of the three. The idiot would have all us be Darkspawn.... So yeah, I very much dislike the Archy out the three. Plus he did start the Flifth blight... So there is that... You had to fix his mess that he made. Like the Mother, for example. How much common sense does a Darkpawn Magister have these days? What made him awake a bloody monstrous Broodmother? That's it, your head is a pike....

i don't really hate any of the villains in DA, but out of these 3, i'd pick the arishok.

i guess i don't really consider the architect a villain.  i don't agree with his plan but i don't think he's all that bad.  while i don't think that the darkspawn can ever coexist with the other races peacefully and without the blight killing them, i think his intentions are understandable and makes him the most human darkspawn we've encountered so far.

i don't particularly like meredith, but i don't have any strong feelings towards her.  i hate petrice far more.

The Arishok by far!

His character was unique compare to all villians of  DA not only as a window to the Qun but also the greater in my opinion morally grey conflict to the world of Thedas. Kirkwall was a complete shithole of a city and many of us couldn't completely fault him for his actions even if they were extreme, not to mention that he was never hostile to the city for SIX YEARS, any other military leader in his place from other culture (Tevinter, Orlais) would attack the city at the slightiest provocation if not wishing for an excuse to attack yet he remained level headed while having to deal with desertion, racism, violence and corruption. More importantly, we can feel from his words and actions even if we don't agree with them that he always tells the truth regardless of circumstance which no other villian in DA ever did without some form of manipulation hidden behind it (self-justification, believing their own lies, you name it).

The Qun may indeed rob you of many freedoms yet the common man or woman will gladly trade them for safety and porpose that actually matters.

Out of the three, the Arishok, hands down; though I have to admit that I haven't played Awakening personally, I've only seen the Architect's scenes on youtube. I like villains that have legitimate reasons for doing what they do, even if they aren't the most agreeable reasons. Meredith had started as quite sympathetic and there was a point where you understood where she came from (her backstory is quite sad), but by the third act she was just plain cuckoo. A tough to kill, insanely powerful cuckoo, but a cuckoo nonetheless.
