Isn't Liara coming up to the cabin dependent on talking with her or not?

 

Isn't it pretty much the same thing though? Going to see her gets reputation points, just like going to see the VS multiple times at the Citadel does.

The two times that I talk to Liara to get the capsule scene, I only get 4 reputation points and before that I usually choose the bottom right dialogue which gives me renegade points and no reputation points. If I don't talk with the VS, I don't get any points, but I'm still able to have him/her stand down.

Sure, but from what I understand, the VS won't show up at docking bay D24 after that.

They will show up at the docking bay. They just won't join you on the Normandy.

Well, same difference I suppose. You still lose that character as a squad member.

I still wish you could have been more negative to the VS at the docking bay. If you reject them (and you have a decent rapport), they feel blind-sided by Shepard's dismissal, though Shepard backtracks a bit and is more kind than I'd have liked him to be. I don't mind the idea of having my Shepard finally call out Ashley for all her bullcrap and her views and tell her that she has no place on the Normandy or being among my team. Hell, I still wish we had the Miranda/Ashley tension/verbal-catfight that (to me at least) seemed inevitable going into ME3, especially if you romanced both of them. Aside from one snide remark by Ashley that pretty much damned her to the Seventh layer of hell in my eyes (she was already at the sixth) and to which you can't defend Miranda against or call out Ashley for her crap, there was nothing.

 

Granted, this is actually light treatment coming from me, since I have her die (in my headcanon/fanfiction) from trying to hijack the Normandy in the name of the alliance (similar to the ME1 grounding) and she pretty much has a mental breakdown over her broken pedestal of Shepard.
