Before I go on about anything, I realize that the thread title sounds a bit like a cheap anti-video game headline. But I assure you, I am all about games here and this is more or less just a tiny aspect of how I play games. Also, I am not a psychiatrist or anything of the sort.

Anyway, back on track.

After being around psychopathic 'experts' and having some discussions, I realized that if some of their beliefs of psychopaths were true, then a lot of Let's Players and gamers have psychotic traits.

Between poor internet connection and my laptop turning into a microwave the moment I play a game, I was left with watching Let's Plays and talking to friends who play a lot of games. From this, I noticed that a lot of gamers/Let's players are more often than not, callous. Whether it is The Walking Dead Let's plays or FPS, or whatever. Most people (I have seen) don't seem to care much about other characters or NPCs.

The lack of empathy is also quite prevalent in RPGs like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or even Mass Effect. Whether it is stealing everything in Whiterun, gunning down every caravan in the Mojave desert, to punching and being a jerk to everyone in the milky way galaxy, I really wonder how psychopathic gamers are.

Of course, I don't believe people are inherently psychopathic. Because I have seen the exact same people who lack empathy and compassion for other characters often have remorse and regrets within the same game. Remorse is supposedly a quality which psychopaths do not posses.

Anyway, I'll cut it off here to leave more room for discussion. Because maybe my curiosity of this matter may turn into obsession. And obsessive questioning may turn into worshiping. Worshiping might turn into brrggbrnublublasfflbbnnbดก

EDIT: Seems like people prefer to just troll instead of discussing. CHANGE OF THREAD TITLE. I have already stated that I word things poorly. This is because English isn't exactly my native tongue. Also, if you believe the question is 'stupid' might as well ignore the thread.

DISCLAIMER:

- Isn't an English pro (punctuation, spelling, word use)

- Not a psychology expert. No degrees what so ever

- A bit psychopathic at times. Especially against other psychopaths

I remember reading somewhere that most Americans could be diagnosed with a mental disorder. Wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

I was psychotic from day one, it's not a lack of empathy it's the fact that people are *******s and I operate under that assumption unless they prove otherwise. Though they usually die first.

If my character in Skyrim is indicative of my personality, then I think I should be far more worried about kleptomania rather than being a psychopath.

I also may or may not secretly be a dark elf woman.

Well that's more or less an issue with their obsession with diagnosing mental disorders, which is a psychopathic thing in itself.

It's also why I try to refrain from calling someone psychopathic.

It's more that they distinguish game from reality.

Not something I can really do that well myself.

I was just frying demons with agi spells. Realism sucks some times.

I understand. I realize that there is also role playing and having a go at doing psychopathic things to relieve stress. It's just that sometimes some people seem to carry the exact same personality over to almost every game they play. Admittedly, I do that from time to time.

In a "let's play, bros" setting, it does seem that gaming behavior can veer sharply toward what you would call "psychopathic" if NPCs were real people, yes.

But they're not. It's just fun to laugh about doing stupid **** in games, moreso with friends. At least, that's how I remember friends being, before I added them to my collection.

Yeah, that thief is a standard character personality for me.

Even as I type this I have Divinity Original Sin on my other monitor and I'm trying to break into this person's house.

Dunno if this makes me a psychopath but I still lament how I couldn't go kristallnacht on the dark elves of windhelm after signing up with the stormcloaks.

I don't know if I've become a little sadistic after playing GTA series since 1999 and a few other games!

^Being a psychopath doesn't translate to being a mass murderer or anything of the sort. It's just the personality I am talking about.
