That's a sick bastard's move though. Always remember that China and the Islamic World in The Middle Ages are better than any Christian or Pagan European kingdom. And you betrayed the Byzantines.

pfft they were all pale imitations of the glories of Rome

I tried playing as a duke-level vassal of the Byzantine Empire; the Phokas dynasty.

ew the phokades

pretty much all you can say about them is that they were better than the skleroi, or at least more successful

Ew. At least the Phokades put Nikephoros II on the throne, an actual competent general who scored several key military victories. Alexios was a travesty, as were the other Komnenoi.

The Makedonian/Amorian dynasty is where it's at. If you're into military-political success, anyway.

Anyone who shits on the Kommenian restoration is clearly a Saracen in disguise sent to cause chaos amongst the Empire!

Let's update my game:
This was the situation as I left it last time:
Austria was even more overpowered as normal since they integrated Hungary, France has massive armies and manpower as usual and Castile got lucky and integrated both Aragon and Naples (plus grabbed a big chunk of north Africa).
To make it even more fun, France broke our alliance since we border. Castile broke our alliance after I grabbed a province in Greece and Austria hates me because they want my provinces. Plus, to make it even better, Austria and Spain are allied.
Spoiler

Luckily, an opportunitiy presented itself. The Netherlands declared their independence of Austria and France joined them in their struggle for independence. This resulted in a war between the Netherlands and France against Spain and Austria. After letting them kill eachother for a while, it was the perfect time to attack Castile and finally grab Ancona.
The war lasted really long since, combined, they still had more armies than me and France peaced out pretty quickly but by grabbing the wargoal and defending in the Pyrenees I managed to get enough warscore to grab Ancona and force Spain and Austria to end their alliance.

Meanwhile, focussing on trade, I managed to get the magical 60% trade income :)
Spoiler

With Ancona finally in my hands I could officially create Italy.
Before the war with Spain and Austria I did manage to expand a bit. Sardinia became independent as did Montenegro and Morea whom I all managed to diplo annex quickly. Bosnia was already independent and after vassalizing it I fed it some territories from Venice to annex it afterwards and in that same war I forced Switzerland to become my vassal
Spoiler

So now that I am Italy the next goal is to take the rest of current day Italy, which now is possible because I broke Spain and Austria's alliance and almost doubled my forcelimit and manpower. Meanwhile, the Ottomans are really weak; they are getting nowhere conquering the Mamluks or Qara so that will be an easy target to expand.

I wish there will be options to revive previous dynasties. Qajars were ****** (dumb*ss is censored! lol). I really like to play Persia as Victoria 3 as Afshar or Zand dynasty.

One of the expansions added Zoroastrianism and made it possible to resurrect the classical Persian empire in CK2.

I've been having ADD when it comes to CKII. I've been abandoning empires I built up and starting over again from different realms only to leave those as well. I wanted to rebuild lathe Roman Empire as the Empire of Prydaim, but it got really tedious trying to get the required duchies. I've been having more fun as the Shahanshah of Persia. Zoroastrianism kicks ass. I get too conquer all my neighbors who have different religions.

Well my Anglo-Saxon England game has been on hold for a bit as I've been playing a mod designed to give additional flavor to the Byzantines and a reformed Roman Empire

rome3_zps25721bb4.jpg

I will have the option of restoring Roman Culture and I may decide to restore Hellenism if I get a loony or something down the line

Not really. I started with a duchy or two in Asia Minor, they start off reasonably strong and allied with the Seljuks, but if you consolidate your power in Europe first you can make mincemeat out of them once you get going.

So.. let's update my current EU IV game

This is where I left of after last update:
I just managed to grab Anocona of Spain so that I could form Italy.
Since Spain, Austria and France were still to strong for me, I continued to harrass the Ottomans and started to expand into North Africa (It made it challenging since they were allied with Crimea, Qara and the Timurids but luckily those Ottomans really don't know how to fight:P). At the same time I decided would be nice to become emperor of the HRE so I got friendly with a couple of the electors

Spoiler

I managed to get my alliance with France back which led to a world of hurt for Spain. In a about 20 years, their land was almost always occupied. Thanks to some well placed bribes in that time, Naples managed to get independent again, which I quickly went on to vassalize.
Then, in the middle of the war I got a nice little event... Luckily my amazing allies France and The Netherlands pretty much took care of it:P
And yes, France invaded England, Sweden is nothing of note and the Teutonic Order is big and you don't see it here but Russia is pretty much taking all of East Asia, from India to Indonesia
Spoiler

After decades and decades of waiting for that damn Austrian queen to die I became Emperor (and I already was Papal Controller) which just about made me the most influential country in Europe especially after I had invoked the last few reforms
Spoiler

Now that Spain was dead and I still had my alliance with France, Austria and Portugal are no match for me. So I grabbed some provinces of Portugal in both Europe and Africa and I grabbed all Imperial territory that Austria still controlled and diplo annexed the smaller states. And I also managed to force vassalize the Ottomans:P

Spoiler

But I got a bit too excited.. Pretty much the entire world entered a coalition against me.. Even France who I had been allied with for most of the game and decided to attack me in 2 wars. The first being Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Scotland and Russia and the second being France, Teutonic Order, Great Brittain and Sweden.

I managed to fight off the first pretty well but then the 2nd one fired..I made peace as soon as I could but my army was in Russia and in Spain when France started to chain siege me..

I spend all my military points force marching my army to that one decisive battle in the mountains of Switzerland and if that bloody Gibraltar was a strait in EU as it is in CK I would have made it since it could go either way but now part of my army was stuck waiting for transport and I lost the battle and with that I had to give up some territory..

Spoiler

I think I'm going to take it easy for the next decades :)

Details on the new Charlemagne DLC

Highlights

-Pagan/Tribal government overhaul, focus on using prestige and tribute

-transition from tribal/chief government to republic or feudal society

-intrigue overhaul and removal of the assassinate diplomacy option

-new cultures

-Tech Group Legalism overhauled, and by that I mean completely nerfed

-"Centralization" laws that affect your ratio of demesne to number of vassals you can have

-Regency overhaul with new event chains and additional options if you are the regent

-New cultural events such as the Carolingian Renaissance

-Removed the de Jure HRE in this start date, requires Papal approval and territory in Italy, seems like a Germania Empire is there instead

-Fine-tuning of decadence in Muslim dynasties, but as yet no real details

-I couldn't really tell, but it looked there were new honorary titles

-Climate system taken from EUIV and traits to go with it

-No Cadet Branches as of yet

-New succession law "Elective Gavelkind" hinted at being used for unreformed Pagans

-Zunist religion added (don't expect much flavor for them as of yet)

-Customizable Kingdom info, taking duchies to a kingdom level (ie. Kingdom of Smaland from the duchy)

-I noticed that the Saxons on the mainland used the same unit pack as Anglo-Saxons (unsurprisingly)

-Chronicle System used to detail important events and an option to export it to another format

-No Schism Mechanics planned

The Update I have after defeating two waves of mongol invasions (between 1217-30) is:

- Rebuilding army, upgrading my territories

- Shahanshah Vahhab died at age 63.

- Byzantine Empire in exile is much stronger now, but I succeeded in defeating them and annexing just 'Abkhazia'.

[Edit]

- Almost my ass kicked by Byzantines and Hospitalers, but finally won the religious war against the Catholics (just for three pieces of lands!) in 1254.

There's not an option to restore the Roman Pantheon? No taking back Saturnalia from the Christians?

Alas no, not even in the Roman overhaul I'm using

probably because Hellenism is gimped even by the standards of Slavic and West African paganism
