So we've all been down the road at least once, where you see ads for a game, you get all excited over it, it comes out, and it doesn't come close to what you thought you'd be getting.

What is the absolute worst case scenario you have for games that you could imagine happening.

1. Bioshock Infinite: Not bad but not as hyped, still a pretty solid game.

2. Dragon age 2: Didn't live up to the hype and had problems, but there is still a pretty decent game inside the tarnished exterior.

3. Mass Effect 3: A big divider, some love it some loath it and there are obvious faults. You can still have an okay time but its not close to what you wanted.

4. Ultima 9: Someone decided to deliberately ruin the game and trick you into buying this, and it killed your mode and jaded your hype. The game is horrid, and the redeeming qualities cannot be found.

5: Limbo of the Lost: This is not a game its an experience of hell, and someone got your money so you could buy this ticket to it. It is so bad that not only is a refund made mandatory buy game retailers, but legal action is now in the works against it.

Mine happened today.

Rise of the Tomb Raider being Xbone exclusive.

I liked it better before the extended cut, at least than you could pretend that control didn't suck.

I doubt it will last long. Ryse got a PS4 and a PC version when it didn't make money, and I suspect the new Tomb Raider will be the same.

I'm hyping through the roof with the next Silent Hill...I'm considering a PS4 by 2016 just for that game.

Diablo 3.

I originally bought a new PC with the intent of playing D3... between Error 37 and iffy reviews, I couldn't even touch it. It wasn't until years later that I tried it on the console... glad I didn't fork up $60 for that.

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing here. I voted ME3 because it put the initial crack in my hype generating mojo, Bioshock Infinite destroyed it. Not getting excited for anything isn't so bad though, I kinda like where I'm at. Turns out I don't need any mojo.

So I guess to actually answer the topic, "none of the above" would be my answer.

Not to beat a dead horse, but another Aliens Colonial Marines... As a worst case scenario, it's much worse when a favorite series turns out something that ignites so much ill will. So that would be mine. It was very hard for me to see the fallout of Mass Effect 3 as well, but CM went beyond that with: legal nightmares, broken reputations, wasted potential, and unlike ME3 couldn't even go five minutes without crashing even a year after release. ME3 was still a good game in the end once the fan reaction lightened up & despite everything. Bad game or not, I would have probably still loved CM had it only worked & let me play it. Hopefully none of the games I am looking forward to will end in a similar experience.

Honestly, on the level of BioShock Infinite. I've never played a hyped game that turned out to be worse than being not as good as it was hyped, but was still a pretty solid game.

If there's one game that fits that for me, it's Dragon Age 2.

See that? I voted based on the 1 to 5 point system, not the title of the game.

I didn't jump on the hype train for Bioshock Infinite so I wasn't disappointed. Dragon Age II is the one that kills it for me. Unlike ME3 where 95% of the "omgtehgam3suks" comes from people being disappointed in the last hour ( the other 30+ hours were pretty solid) DA2 was really one of the first games I've be seriously disappointed in. I still think it's okay for what it is, but yeah DA2 would probably be the worst case scenario from the games listed imo.

I can't import my Shepard

...What?

Wow. Just wow.

*6 months later*

"You can now import YOUR Shepard!"

Yeah. That's not really anything bad compared to Ultima 9 and Limbo of the Lost.

The fortunate always say they know of suffering, until they experience true suffering and learn what they had was a blessing compared. I suppose.

Ultima 9 really was a piece of crap. What a **** way to end one of the most revolutionary RPG series in existence.

That said, it paved the way for the Gothics and the Risens of the world. Not appealing games if you are into Bethesda's open world design philosophy, but the Gothics in particular have a strong atmosphere, charm and just enough immersive qualities to go with it's no handholding gameplay to make it good.
