{Rael finds a total of 2 silver pieces in small copper coins and a silver ring with "Forever" engraved along the band. She estimates that it's worth about 2 silver.}

Rael pocketed the money and squinted a bit at the inscription on the ring. Forever, was it? Apparently, not so long. It was hard to muster any sympathy for a man who would gladly have cut any of them open, and nearly had succeeded on Sarel. The fact that there was no other identifying possessions on the corpse was only minorly frustrating. Perhaps their identities would remain a mystery.

There was one other matter to attend to. Grasping the end of the bolt that jutted out obscenely from the man's body, Rael squeezed her eyes shut and yanked it loose. She wiped the bloodied end on the grasp. And there were two more still to retrieve.

Her attention was suddenly drawn to an unfamiliar voice, distant enough that she could not make out what it said. Looking up, she saw a newcomer had approached Tempest, holding his hands open in a sign of harmlessness. For a brief moment, she wondered if one of the bandits had returned, or come out of hiding. But no, they were long gone and none would be foolish enough to return.

Rael got to her feet and cautiously approached the small group surrounding the newcomer, curiosity overcoming all other impulses.

On one hand relieved that Beldin had come to her and expressed that he did not hold a grudge, on the other hand anxious for the response of the other members of her gang, she decided to search a bit more for her weapons and backpack. Her eyes lingered at the lifeless body of the man. “They’d just left you, didn’t they? They even didn’t care to move your remains and provide you a proper burial… They just wanted their cursed chest.” She felt her stomach twist and knelt next to him. “Fair enough, you attacked me first, but still: sorry, it was not my intention to actually kill you. I hope you’ll find rest at whatevers side you expect to go to. I guess the least I can do is try to inform your relatives of your passing.” She proceeded with searching the body for any personal belongings.

After that she got back up on her feet. Bartha peeked around the corner of the mill. ‘Where did those nughumpers leave my stuff? Did they take it somewhere outside?’ “If anyone happens to find my belongings, I wouldn’t mind if you’d inform me.” She called out at no one in particular.

Her eyes narrowed when she noticed a lone figure approaching tempest. Although he spread his arms to appear harmless, the glimpse she could get from him in the moonlight proved differently. He was far too well equipped to be a random villager. She decided to have a closer look and make use of the darkness in doing so.

{Bartha tries to approach the group with Fabian and Tempest stealthily}

{Bartha finds 31 copper and a tin flask of something that smells like brandy. The flask (including contents) is probably worth about 15 copper.

Both Tempest and Fabian need to make Perception(Sight) opposition rolls, Target number = 15. As a reminder, Opposition Roll = 3d6+Perception+Focus}

Tess was already walking toward Tempest when a strange man materialized near her, obviously startling the mage. She sped toward Tempest, her hands above her head, closing around the hilt of her greatsword, when she realized he was empty-handed.  She dropped her hands to her side and slowed, walking the last few feet toward the man.

She took in the man's weapons and his introduction with a frown.  Tessa crossed her arms and said, "You place yourself at our service? Well, you can start by not jumping out at folks, if you please."

She turned, then, to walk over to that chest and as she passed Tempest, she gave the woman's shoulder a gentle squeeze.

(Tempest fails to see Bartha too. 3d6+1=11)

Tempest smiled faintly when Tessa squeezed her shoulder. Yes, these were good people. That small gesture meant a great deal to her. It meant they cared, and that meant she was much safer than she would have been alone.

With a moment to think things through, she was sure she had overreacted, and she was glad that Tessa at least apparently hadn't thought ill of her as a result. She waited to see how Fabian would respond, to further determine if her concern had been warranted.

Fifteen agonizing yards lay between the windmill door and Tempest, but the sight of an armed man materializing beside her sent Beldin into a rage. He was too far away to attack the man, but by the Maker, he could knock him off his feet! He raised his shield like a battering ram and charged.

He checked his pace as Tessa approached the stranger and intended to stop entirely once he saw the Tempest was under his comrade's protection, but fourteen stone of muscle and bone did not stop moving because the owner desired it. The shield bash was more of a nudge, but it was enough to push the newcomer back a step.

"Sorry 'bout that," he muttered to Tempest.

As Beldin knocked the new man back a step or two, Tessa briefly closed her eyes in exasperation.

'Maker, this man.'  Given the night he'd had so far, Tess was actually impressed that he was still capable of any thought, however...ill-guided.

"Beldin." She spoke calmly enough, but could not keep the edge out of her voice. "You need to have a seat." She sighed before going on. "Go mind the chest, aye?"

She only hoped he could stay out of trouble between here and there.

{I laughed aloud in a meeting. Just so you know.}

Beldin opened his mouth as if to protest, then shut it again and shuffled over to the chest. He sat down, but his eyes never left the newcomer.

Rael had just arrived to the small group by Tempest when Beldin came barreling through like a charging bull and nearly knocked the newcomer off his feet. Tessa quickly took the warrior to task and sent him sulking over to the mysterious chest. Perhaps that was brought this human to their hilltop, much as it had brought the bandits. But no sense in letting him know of her suspicions, not until they learned more about the stranger.

"Forgive my companion's...enthusiastic greeting," Rael said, opening her hands in a mirror of the man's gesture. "We've had our fill of hostilities this evening." She placed her fist upon her chest and bowed her head. "My name is Rael, though I didn't catch yours. What brings you to this mill at such an hour?"

Bartha smiled when Tessa moved in to protect Tempest, quickly followed by Rael. However, she couldn't keep herself from laughing out loud when Beldin charged in like a bronto, only to get waved away by Tessa. Fair enough, it blew her cover, as it would not be that hard to hear her from a few yards away... As the situation appeared to be under control anyway, she decided to turn around again and continue the search for her belongings.

As she walked back to the mill, she studied the flask she'd found. Turning it around in the moonlight, she hoped to find any inscriptions that would give the man an identity... something to give her a clue who he was. Except for a jerk with a quarterstaff, that is.

"My name is Rael, though I didn't catch yours. What brings you to this mill at such an hour?"

I brushed myself off after the brute's completely unwarranted assault and bowed to her.

"I am Fabian Bredani, smith and storyteller, your humble and beleaguered servant. I ran hither because I could imagine no reason why anyone might run from the safety of a village's walls unless dire need compelled them. I see that you no longer need my blades, but I felt honor bound to introduce myself rather than skulking away into the night. Although if your hound comes at me again... but I jest," I said with a wink. "You are weary and there are injured among you. I'm no healer, but perhaps I may defend you on your way back to town."

Tempest couldn't help a smile as Beldin barreled in to her rescue. It was ill-considered, and unnecessary... but above all, it was kind. Much as it served no practical benefit, she appreciated that his instinct was to charge forward to protect her.

As he stepped away in chagrin, Tempest gave his arm a gentle squeeze, and said quietly, "Thank you for your willingness, my friend."

To Fabian, she said, "My name is Tempest."

She had only been Tempest for a few months. No one from Kirkwall would know her by that name. Saying it aloud made her feel safer.

"Your concern for us travelers speaks well of you. I apologize for my hasty reaction."

This did not, of course, indicate she trusted him. His story was plausible, but it wouldn't be sensible to simply place trust in any stranger who turned up in the darkness with a decent explanation. They were many, though, and Fabian was only one man. It seemed reasonable to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Tempest's arrival for healing brought many others with it. A stranger confronted them, Beldin charged in to defend, Tessa scolded and Rael, as well as Tempest, spoke with the newcomer. So much was happening and it couldn't be at a worse time. The battle had just ended, Mercuriel was healed but he needed to finish his conversation with Laurelin. Tempest's arrival had interrupted it but, truth be told, Mercuriel wasn't sure where he was going with his reprimand of Laurelin anyway.

He worried about her, that was for sure, and it confused him seeing as he knew her such a short time and he rarely cared about women beyond what they could do for him in the bed. He sighed and ran a hand over his face. This newcomer demanded his attention.

The stranger was called Fabian apparently. Mercuriel stood a bit behind the rest of the group and eyed the man. What an odd name for a human. Then again, most human names made very little sense to Mercuriel. Something about the encounter with this man was a bit too convenient though.

After Rael and Tempest spoke and Beldin took a seat on the nearby chest, Mercuriel decided he should speak up. Perhaps what he was thinking was something shared by everyone in the group.

"You just happened to see us leave the town and come running after in order to assist us? How noble of you." His voice wasn't laced with threat. More like careful caution.

Dog wandered over to Beldin and put his muzzle against the warrior's arm.

Mercuriel had made a rather good point,it was foolish of her to transform in front of others, especially non- Dalish.The keeper discouraged her from using her abilities in front of her clanmates ,just the thought of him hearing about during her little “demonstration”,he’d be furious and for a good reason.

Laurelin's eyes widened with surprice by the sudden change of his tone but she could tell that Mercuriel meant no harm quite the opposite in fact by the way he was holding her hand,but she backed away nevertheless she wasn’t sure whether she was angry with him or herself or the warden’s people for just being there…Creators,the blacksmith accused both herself and Eshara of being  shapeshifters, what would he do to her if he knew that she was indeed one.And since he was proved to be right about that one,what  if they believed the rest of his accusations?

“You are right.”She admitted stoically trying to hide her concern “It was reckless and foolish…But Bartha was in dire danger,I had no choice every second was important.”She crossed her arms and looked back at Mercuriel “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself,if I knew that I could have prevented it and yet have done nothing about it.”

Laurelin’s attention was suddenly caught by a stranger with a rather melodic accent she’s never heard before. For a moment he appeared to be having a conversation with the rest of the party,if she could call  Beldin’s  stunt  that truth be told he had every reason to be alarmed. From what she gathered, he was a storyteller from Antiva…Laurelin thought that she’s never been to Antiva before. “Storyteller?I hope you have some good stories  to share with us sir,it has been a long night.”

Beldin's gaze dropped as the soft, tawny muzzle touched his arm, and huge brown eyes looked back. Tension drained from him as he stroked Dog's majestic head.

"You always know when somebody just needs a hug, don't you?" he whispered, petting his neck and scritching him under the chin. To Dog, it might be no more than easy affection, but to Beldin, it was... about the same. Soothing. Creature comfort was vastly underrated. "What a fine boy you are."

Tessa looked around, and realized that everything was in hand. Everyone was whole, and looked to stay that way. On the heels of that thought, she glanced sharply toward Beldin, still sitting on the chest, looking companionable with Mercuriel’s hound. She nodded once, to herself.

Maker’s Breath, I want a bath, she thought to herself. Again. It had been a very long night.  She looked around again before walking toward that chest. This seemed to be what the bandits wanted here.

If it’s full of cabbage…Tess left that thought right there, because she didn’t want to hit anyone else tonight.

When she got to the chest, she gave Beldin half a smile before she started looking around the chest. It looked like a normal chest, the kind people stored things in…and in this case, buried them.

Unless it was packed solid with metal, she (or she and Mercuriel if it was too heavy) should have no problem getting back to Tarl’s place fairly quickly.

She motioned for Beldin to get up and cautiously lifted up one side of the chest to test its weight.

Tess was pretty sure she could carry it herself, but it wasn't just up to her.  She called to the biggest knot of the group hoping both that everyone in the party would hear her, and that she wouldn't summon anyone else. "Shall we get around to get this out of here, maybe?"

"Well met, Fabian," Rael responded, maintaining her air of detached politeness. "Although we are many, I'll not refuse your offer of an escort. Though it falls not just to me to make such an assertion." She gestured to her companions who were still very much scattered about in the aftermath of the combat. With another bow of her head, she withdrew from the group, allowing the others to make their own determinations on the stranger's offer.

Turning towards the mill, she saw Beldin and Tessa conversing over the chest and Bartha seemed to still be in the mill itself. Feeling grateful that their time on that cursed hilltop was coming to an end, Rael busied herself in retrieving her bolts and "examining" the bodies that were still unsearched.

Bartha had combed out the first floor of the mill another time… and was pretty sure that the dead man did not hold her bag. She looked at the stairs: perhaps they had left her bag up there… but where did they put her daggers?

When she heard Tessa call out for leaving, she walked back to the door. Raising her voice enough to at least be heard by the bulk of the group, she called out: “Please give me another minute to find my belongings. I have no idea where these nughumpers hid them, but I do not want to leave without. So feel free to lend a hand if you want to. And I guess that those dead guys do not happen to have my daggers?”

Everyone besides him seemed to be welcoming this stranger into their group. Then again, they had welcomed him in without much questioning and it wasn't like he could very well claim this group of people as his own. He would remain quiet for now but keep a close eye on the man.

He bristled just a little bit at the tender tone Laurelin offered the newcomer but quickly shoved the feeling aside. He thought a little about what had transpired just now with her.

For the most part, Laurelin had admitted that she understood his frustration with her open usage of magic, but she'd shared with him that she'd done so for Bartha, a friend, the dwarf in their party. Mercuriel could understand her feelings all too well and he was thankful the tense moment was over.

Moving away from his thoughts, Mercuriel searched for Dog and found him enjoying the attention of Beldin. Mercuriel walked over to the warrior and clasped him on the shoulder lightly.

"I'm glad you're alive. For a moment, I was sure you'd go and steal all the glory of the battle away from me. You know I have to keep up my image with the ladies."

He smiled gently at Beldin then Tessa.

Tessa snorted at Mercuriel before smirking at him. “You didn’t stand around fixing your hair, serah. You fought well tonight.”

She looked over toward the windmill when Bartha called out.  She looked back at the men standing with her. “Mercuriel? Would you want to go see if you can help Bartha find her weapons? I will see about getting the chest ready to haul back.”

“Beldin, maybe you can see if any of these folks,” she gestured briefly at the dead before going on, “maybe have Bartha’s blades.”

Although Tempest was recovering from the emotional strain of the battle, she still didn't feel sufficiently combat-hardened to begin rifling through the pockets of dead bodies. Instead she began scanning the grass, in case Bartha's blades had been tossed away.

"Does anyone else have wounds that need tending?" she asked. In the chaos of the battle and the flurry of activity that had followed, she wasn't entirely positive that everyone had been patched up sufficiently.

If no one did, she was ready to return to the manor as soon as Bartha's possessions were located.
