They'd have to duel to find out who was the greater mage.

1:36 Champion of Kirkwall confirmed for Inquisition. Guy next to her could very likely be your Warden. Looks like Warden and Hawke really will be teaming up in Inquisition.

Note: Both Warden and Inquisitor are female elven Mages.

Circlemage!Warden: "So you are the Champion of Kirkwall, that incited this horrible War?"

Romanced!GreyWarden!Alistair: "Yes, it's him. I met him before. Sorry."

Bloodmage!Hawke: "You know, you should thank me, it was my Doing that brought the Circles down."

Circlemage!Warden: "Thank you? The Circle was my Life, my Home. You should be made Tranquil!"

Bloodmage!Hawke: "You can try, little Girl, you can try. The Circle did not teach you the Powers I command."

Circlemage!Warden: (bitter) "I am no longer Part of the Circle."

Dalishmage!Inquisitor: "Would you two PLEASE stop squabbling and focus?"

Bloodmage!Hawke: "Ah, how I love my elven Witches!"

Romanced!Merrill: "Can't we all just get along?"

Yo I didn't mean it Icy. I was just appreciating the humor in the number of Warden on Hawke violences Ive gotten. By the way Icy, you say your Hawke is a Templar? I would've liked to make a Templar Hawke but I could never do it. I just didn't think it would make sense from a story perspective for Hawke to side with the Templars.

Hawke's dad was a mage, Hawke spent years hiding Bethany from the Templars, before Kirkwall and after Kirkwall, and two of Hawke's companions are apostates that he helps hide from the Templars. What was your Hawke's reasons for siding with the Templars?

Hm... this is a decision I made after playing the game a few times.  I eventually came to prefer the warrior class because I could not accept the plot holes involved with being an apostate and using magic in the middle of a city that was practically ruled by Templars.  Rogues were out of the question because I didn't like their combat animations (I later got over that and made a few really fun rogue characters...).  Also, 2 handed Reaver/Templar is a lot of fun.

So, with that said, I'll try to keep this short.  The basic idea is that Hawke is a warrior, and like Carver, he has no real interest in the overall plight of mages.  Although he cares for Bethany and wishes to protect her, his father died long ago, and thus he is not a factor in his life.  This version of Hawke is a devout believer in the Maker and abhors blood magic.  The game is designed such that Merrill and Anders are forced upon the player, but IMO it's pretty easy to roleplay as a character who mistrusts blood mages and abominations... I simply avoided traveling with those two outside of their personal quests and kept my interactions with them brief.

Hawke's disdain for Anders results in him spending as little time with the mage as possible, and so he is never considered for the Deep Roads expedition.  His desire to protect Bethany leads him to take her along rather than risk leaving her to be captured by Templars while he wasn't there.   This combination of events results in Bethany's death from the Taint, and thus the final personal connection to the mage plight has been severed.

Hawke goes through some changes as the story progresses... his interactions with the Qunari in Act 1 were positive for the most part, and in Act 2 he becomes more interested in their culture.  He witnesses first hand several violent incidents involving magic, culminating in his mother's murder and defilement at the hands of a mage.  The pieces have fallen into place, and now Hawke has become committed to Order and begins to follow the path of the Templar (second specialization, the first being Reaver after the Act 1 dragon encounter).

So... that's pretty much the (somewhat) short version of it... Hawke is alone in the world and sees no positive examples of mages (remember, he never befriends Merrill in this timeline).  He seeks to bring order to the chaotic city around him, thus he sides with Meredith rather than release potential blood mages or demon worshipers upon the world.  Add to that best friends like Fenris and Aveline and the story seems pretty reasonable...

The Hero of Ferelden wouldn't mind having Hawke as a hapless sidekick.

Bethany being killed, never befriending Merrill or Anders, and witnessing the horrors Blood Magic can bring. I can see your Hawke siding with the Templars. Though he must feel guilty sometimes knowing that Bethany wouldn't approve of him siding against mage freedom.

I agree with you about the plot holes of being a Mage Hawke. You do Magic right in front of Cullen, Meredith, and other Templars but none of them even tries to send you to the Circle lol

Not really... the bottom line for this version of Hawke is that uncontrolled mages would threaten the stability of his city.  Act 2 begins 3 years after Bethany dies, and Act 3 begins 3 years after Act 2's conclusion.  6 years is a long time for a person to develop, and thus whatever Bethany may or may not have thought is irrelevant to Hawke at that point.

Keep in mind that Hawke (this version) was never in favor of mage freedom.  He simply did not want to be separated from his sister, and since posed no threat, there was no reason to expose her to the Chantry.  A common soldier has very little knowledge of abominations, the Fade, or magic in general.  So long as Bethany didn't practice blood magic, he had no reason to fear her.  While she was alive Hawke was merely a mercenary trying to make ends meet, and had no political agenda.  Having had no prior contact with mages aside from his father and Bethany, he would not have had any strong feelings towards their situation, and likely would not have even known much about how the Circles were run.  By the time Bethany passes, he would have already encountered more maleficarum than good or neutral mages, and afterwards he primarily encounters maleficarum and abominations.

Anyway, that's how Hawke would view things... xD  Obviously if things had turned out differently, his entire perspective could have shifted drastically.  This is simply the character I came to enjoy the most, but I've played a number of Hawkes with various motivations and goals.

Marcus and Nathaniel are both made up for this sketch...

Marcus Law: So you're going to the heart of the Tevinter Empire.

Adin Roberson: That's right.

Marcus: Start a slave rebellion.

Adin: Indeed.

Marcus: Put an end to the established order.

Adin: That's the plan.

Marcus: Then start a new government.

Adin: Absolutely!

Marcus: With what army?

Adin: Only the finest.

[Three figures emerge from the shadows. The Hero of Ferelden, The Champion of Kirkwall and The Leader of the Inquisition].

Marcus: Just the four of you?

Adin: Got a problem with that?

I hope for Awkward dinner conversation between the three of them if the Inquisition invites them to the keep.
Hawks: So.....you and Isabella hm?

Warden: Ah...I take it she mentioned that?

Hawke: Yes...she boasted about it when I first met her.

Warden: Boasted did she? Glad to see their was impact... She mentioned Alistair as well?

Hawke: The bloody king of Fereldan as well ?!

Warden: Ah....I take it she failed to mention that part?

Hawke: Just....never mind....

Warden: Are you sure? I can get in touch with Zevran and he has a far better memory.

Inquisitor quietly sipping soup.

Nobody knows yet... they might have helmets or default appearances... or maybe there will be a character creation option... it's all just wild guesses at this point.

My Warden is dead, so I doubt he'll be teaming  up with my awesome Hawke.  I suppose my Warden Commander could take on the role of sidekick to the Champion of Kirkwall, though.

Ah my Hawke and Warden?

Natasha Cousland: So you're the Champion of Kirkwall?

Sophie Hawke: And you're the Hero of Ferelden? Good. Now I've heard there is a new evil out in the world. Shall we go kill it?

Natasha Cousland: Capital idea! My warrior abilities should complement your rogue abilities nicely. Know any good mages?

Sophie Hawke: *Points to Anders and Merril.* I'm kinda sworn to ward these two and make sure they don't hurt any good people again.

Natasha Cousland: Good, let's go sort it out. By the way, I heard there's some Inquisitor we might think about teaming up with.

Sophie Hawke: Oooh, tell me more.....

And they trundle off down the road to go save the world. ;)

Since the first run is tradition for me to make a male mage and my favorite Warden and Hawke are both mages so the Elder One is going to kill me with two melee attacks it would be interesting to see how things could go with those three fighting side by side.

Poor Hawke, in a fight between him and the warden there's no amout of fancy staff twirling that could save him from the Warden's arcane warrior abilities. He would loose, but he would loose looking good while the Warden would win looking like a brain damaged cat every time he casts.

Life is unfair.

Wow. Three pairings of Wardens and Hawkes ending with violence or probable violence so far. Starting to think this thread was a bad idea lol

My Cousland and Hawke would get along fine.

Though I have a play through dedicated to setting things up so as many PCs want to kill each other as possible. I wonder if Bioware has though of that :P

The Warden that's in the trailer is not the Warden from DA:O (BW's chosen world-state has the Warden doing the US).

It's been confirmed that if both Hawke and the Warden show up in DA:I, we will be able to customize them.  Whether this will be in-game or through the Keep, no one knows atm.  Since Hawke is pretty much confirmed as appearing, all that's left is the Warden.

Yep, so that essentially means it is the Orlesian Warden you would otherwise play if you played DA:A without importing a DA:O save game into it.

That's news to me... but welcome news.  I didn't like the idea of seeing the default female Hawke in DA:I.

I'm thinking it's the main antagonist.  If not, then maybe the Elder One that was mentioned in part 2 of the DA:I gameplay demo.  I'm leaning towards the former, though.
