I've made 3 complete characters that did both Origins and Awakening and have only completed this DLC for one of them. It came with the Ultimate Edition and I'd never buy it knowing what it was. There are several issues I have with it.

1. It feels very out of place story-wise.

2. It potentially feels very out of character.

3. It's boring.

1. Dragon Age tends to have a flow when it comes to story-telling, and Golems of Amgarrak has no real story. It comes across simply as a money-grab using copy/paste settings. I feel the ideal storyline pacing is Origins, Awakening, and then Witch Hunt. Granted, Witch Hunt is very flawed as well but it at least has some dialogue and works as an epilogue. It gives a farewell to Morrigan and a cryptic foreshadowing of ...maybe Inquistiion's events. GoA feels out of place. It's just a random, flat adventure in-between story-arcs that leads nowhere.

2. If you destroyed the Anvil of the Void or preserved it with immense guilt then aiding a dwarven family to duplicate Caridin's research in order for this family to become wealthy without even being given much details beforehand about their endeavor comes across as very out of character. When role-playing it's not just what your pc does but what they don't do (ex: recruiting certain characters). Seriously, what is the Hero of Ferelden even doing there? Looking for lost adventuring dwarves trying to make golems? Doesn't the Hero of Ferelden have better things to do? And why would they want to aid in making golems if they were against it before?

3. This is purely subjective. I've never found DA:O's (and its respective DLC's) gameplay invigorating and without a single choice and practically no dialogue this DLC has no purpose but for those who simply like fighting.

As a PS3 user, I find very little reason to sacrifice a character slot (of 10 max) for this. How do you feel about this DLC?

I'm a pretty compulsive completionist; no matter how many times I play though Origins/Awakening I can't bring myself to skip a single sidequest regardless of how irrelevant it turns out to be, even when trying to rush through the game with alternate decisions.

That being said, I have zero issue skipping Golems. I consider it to be a story more akin to Leliana's Song or Darkspawn Chronicles that allows you to use your Warden as the hero, rather than an extension of the main story. Your reasoning pretty much covers it.

I thought it felt a bit tacked-on, and I found the puzzle in it more annoying than interesting.

It had some interesting lore, but in the end it was more about puzzles and boss fights than anything else. I'm also betting the room full of Haversters never ever has any relevance in future games.

The lore is useful especially regarding Lyrium.

This is part of it. I also like my headcanon for my Dwarf Noble as he's trying to strengthen the ties between House Dace and House Aeducan/Xanthos.

Enjoyed it except for the final Boss fight. Believe I finished it with all of my canonical Wardens, or at least with all three classes.

I like the dlc. I have no complaints about it. It would be interesting if Shale was with you to hear what she would say.

I never liked this DLC and only remember doing it once.  The additional lore was the only thing I enjoyed about it.

I'm not fond of it, either for the RP or the puzzles. Awakening is really the best of the post-Origins DLC. The rest are sort of meh.

I like the DLC for it's level of challenge and trophy rewards, but I've only played it 3 times. Nothing you do there is imported so once you get all the rewards there isn't much reason to go back.

The lore is useful especially regarding Lyrium.

When role-playing not only your choices but what you choose not to do as I said you sadly miss out on DA lore insight. For example, my canon warden didn't recruit Sten because I could never see her doing it. And because of that, I missed out on practically all knowledge of qunari culture in DA:O which made them much more of an unknown in DA2. ...Of course I already knew about them but the point is if I was telling it as a story there would be a hole in cultural insight.

Even if that were possible consider how Shale reacts if brought on the Anvil of the Void quest... Do you think she would really want to help recreate golems after that?

At the time I saw it as filler. I still do. Obviously I still play it in any DAO runs because it's still part of the story (and part of the Warden's story), but meh, it's basically filler.

To tell the truth i feel exactly the same, when i first installed the game (hard copy) I saw absolutely no point on getting this DLC, neither Lelliana's song or A Tale of Orzammar. As prelude to dwarven noble i find out these two further DLC as a good prelude (so good that i even re-created Marjolaine to play Tale of Orzamar),

Storywise i see no point on playing this one, the only warden that could be interested in this one is DEAD (Dwarven commoner). But returning to storywise, an Orlesian Warden Commander will maybe interested in this research... I think that in a surviving warden is just out of place. Also it's imposible to win if you create a new warden for this one (tried to create my son, but an arcane warrior shapeshifter with robes and a staff instead of heavy armor and dual welding is not good)

Gollems of Amarak should had been implemented as "bad done" DLC (the one i trend to pirate on PC and avoid on consoles by pawning games that include it after i try to complete them, like soul calibur V) by making it a side quest in awakening like Stone Prisoner or soldier's peak in origins just to make it fit in storyline (adding gollems to Virgil's keep defense, of course).

However, i liked it. The only DLC i have hatted right now was Lelianna's song, and not because Lelianna is voiced, it's because of it's hallway linear dungeons, recycled Denerim maps, "hurt me please" enemies (the only ones who put in some resistence were the deep stalkers... seriously?) , not a good reward (battledress of the provocatteur has high requirements for it's advantages, and marjolaine's recurve requires you to level up until you had find better bows) and the DA2 cinematics that bring me bad memories.

Yeah I'm pretty much of the same opinion. No familiar companions (except I can't remember if Dog is there?), and I can't remember if it has any impact on DA2? None I think. Oh yes. Talk about round and round the mulberry bush - blue fades, yellow fades, pink fades, purple fades, orange fades (at least around the mulberry bush you can eat the mulberrys).

I quite like it. It's quick, easy and simple. The company is nice, the setting is gloomy and it's gives me a nice opportunity to play with all the toys the warden has gathered over the main campaign and the other DLCs. (But sometimes I skip the final fight...because of reasons.)

Story-wise, I head canon that my wardens were heading to the Deep Roads to do some Wardening (for the reports to the Wardens of Weisshaupt) and decided to deal with the letter-writing dwarf at the same time. (Also, this might score some brownie points with the King of Orzammar, which might pay-off at a later date).

During the DLC they have a long, quiet thought about their lives and the choices that they made. When they finally get out of the Thaig, they usually feel a bit lost and confused, which is a nice incentive to go looking for Morrigan and finally tie up the loose threads from the end of the main Campaign.

At the end of Witch Hunt, they have the answer that they needed and are finally ready to settle down and become NPCs in another heroes campaign.

If they could have dragged in any of the Origins character I'd have been happy. Even one of them. But Shale or Oghren would have been especially appropriate and in the latter case, Steven Blum has been doing a lot of work for Bioware so I have a hard time believing they couldn't get ahold of him. Really any of them. Voice Acting is a notoriously difficult profession to find steady working gigs in after all.

Heck even Bodahn and Sandal. I would have been thrilled to see either of them.

I'm not to concerned about what she thinks. I just would want to hear what she would say about all the golems that are fought in the dlc. I'm sure she would have some interesting dialogue.

I always enjoy additional lore, but tbh the story are quite bland it's basically experiment gone wrong mixed with a rescue mission, and there are nothing worth remembering about the new characters. While I like the idea about the Harvester it's not really worth to play through more than two times.

It was good for a one-time play.  I liked the lore, and the puzzle was interesting.  The fight at the end was a nightmare, though.

Of course, the real joy of it is the Reaper's Cudgel on all future playthroughs.  Not that it's the best weapon - there are better.  But it sells for more money than most other gear in the game combined :P

I just played it yesterday. It was OK, but a bit simplistic. Jerrik and his brother aren't that memorable as characters - the only dialogue scene of any consequences was when I said that it was a bad idea to engage in these sorts of experiments and Jerrik responded gruffly that he didn't want to hear it - and the other two party members are a mute golem and an animal (and one that doesn't even interact with you like the dog does). The boss fight was challenging and a bit more nerve-wracking than most - at one point everyone was down except my Warden, a human mage, and I was just running away and trying to throw cold cones and glyphs of paralysis and repulsion so I could recharge and revive Jerrik (and thus get Snug back as well). Still, it felt kind of pointless and disconnected from the rest of the story when it was all over.

It wasn't my favorite. It was okay to play once, but I'm dreading playing it again, which I must do with my current Warden, as I was unable to beat the Harvester on Hard/Nightmare with my previous Warden. I tried countless times, but my rogue kept getting killed. Hopefully my S&S warrior can take down the accursed critter and get the Reaper's Cudgel and the trophy/achievement.
