Alright. Sorry for the interruption. I never have time for games anymore, but am going to change that for DAI. Looks fantastic!
Cheers.

I'm obviously not the person who made this thread, but I just tweeted this thread to him for the heck of it. I pointed out it was a nice thread and not a mean one.

It was good, I especially enjoyed how how worked in actual spells and things from the games you could identify with. Only criticism is a few of the battles were a tad long on the fighting technique. As with some of the other novels I disagree with most people who read them regarding the characters but well written characters spark debate, just as in Asunder.

And the magic clash spell.
Yeah. I played a mage with that spell for the first time in Origins just before reading that. After my 100th one-shotted mage, it was a nice surprise to see it in the book. That's how I now picture it in the game ![]()
But yeah, Felassen was my favourite character in that generally. A very memorable trickster character. Those are hard to write well ![]()

Because is was lore accurate.

Because is was lore accurate.
Obviously, but I meant specifically. I haven't read the books, so I'm curious about this because I didn't hear anything about awesome depictions of magic in the books.

Not about DA, but Patrick Weekes...if you want a really fun read, a book that screams to be made into a film is his "The Palace Job"...I've already pre-ordered the sequel ![]()

Ah Felassan. What an absolute awesome character. I really hope we will find out what happened to him, and where he was from. There was much to that character we really didn't know.
Im also looking forward to his characters in Inquisition.
I enjoyed the fight scenes. Alot

Because is was lore accurate.
without spoiling too much, an apostate is very proficient with creation and entropic magic.
we see her magic invigorate her companions, making them hit hard and fast which brings to mind creation spells like heroic aura. The same mage uses hexes. And ... You know what. Read the book. You wont be disappointed
I should also note that this book got my GF in to dragon age. That was a pretty impressive feat Mr. Weekes

Yes to all of this. I loved the way hexes were described, the parallels between Celene and Gaspard and the depiction of Orlesian society (something which I believed myself previously uninterested in). Everything had this really exceptional... balance, for lack of a better word. Things felt parallel to the lore--and the game--in a way that didn't feel stale or at all obvious.
Not about DA, but Patrick Weekes...if you want a really fun read, a book that screams to be made into a film is his "The Palace Job"...I've already pre-ordered the sequel
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm really interested to see what he can do outside the confines of the IP.

I hate you all. D:

I'm in much the same boat my friend. I'm purchasing Asunder and The Masked Empire as I write this.
A quick question though, should I read one before the other? What is the order of things, am I right in assuming that Asunder takes place just after Dragon Age 2? Where does TmE fit into the chronology.

Asunder and Masked Empire take place at the same time. They reference events in the other without any serious spoilers.
For books and games, it goes kind of like this:
The Stolen Throne
The Calling
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Asunder and Masked Empire (at the same time)
As for other media, the Dawn of the Seeker anime takes place in 9:22, after The Calling and 8 years before Origins. The live-action Dragon age Redemption web series takes place sometime before the Mark of the Assassin DLC in Dragon Age 2, though since you can play that any year it's hard to specify when.
