SO MUCH HAPPENS IN THIS TRAILER I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN AND I CANNOT STOP SHOUTING!

Okay, found my indoor voice! Sort of. Hawke and the Warden!!!! I hope we can customise them, this is so exciting! Cole, Dorian and Cullen all look and sound incredible!! I swear everyone was getting they're assess handed to them in this trailer. Felt bad for them all. And that sunmit explosion sendt chills running through me. And then seeing the Inquisitor touch that...whatever that was and then getting thrown back to Thedas was awesome! I'm so excited right now. Waiting until Novemeber is torture, sweet, sweet torture.

On the one hand, it would be nice to see my Warden again. On the other hand, I don't want Bioware telling me what he's thinking, how he acts, why he does something, what he does, etc.

 

There is no "They're Bioware's only". Part of the thing that matters in this is how we put our hearts and souls into these characters. They're not just a means to play, they're expressions of ourselves. They have little bits of us inside them. Which is why I would've rather had no Warden and Hawke appearance, to be honest. Mentions that they're joining the cause? Sure, maybe. Portraits of them after allowing us to re-customize them? Yes.

 

Am I getting a bit worked up over 4 seconds of video? Maybe. But still... it's important to consider what makes them special.

Canon-Warden els did the ultimate sacrifice, IIRC? Maybe it's Awakening's W.C?

At 1st I thought it was Anders, but it makes perfect sense that its our Warden. I wonder if it'll be a bonus dlc?

That guy with big black eyes looks kinda like those creators in Prometheus. He's clearly an elf, but an ancient elf? The fact that he was doing a ritual in the water kinda cements it.

With out context I can't say for sure, but it seems like the elder one = an untainted old god.

The inquisitor was touched by a spirit (an elven god?)

Didn't David say (I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth here!) that he'd only want to include Hawke and the Warden if they got it just right? I trust Bioware to do it justice, but until we know more I shall continue to squee regardless.

Somehow i doubt they will bother with variations if they put him/her into game at best we will get to chose gender and race not to mention that i trailer who ever it is have armor of the wardens when my warden left order then back in daa (what was first retcon) then still i could tell that i will leave them after everything is done if they will throw it again...

To my recollection, he hasn't. In fact, I almost wanna say that he's said the opposite. That after the events of the game the main characters went straight into being Bioware's turf.

The main thing I keep thinking is that the bad guy sounds alarmingly like Benedict Cumberbatch, and if he voices another evil dragon he's gonna get typecast.

Never mind. Found a quote by him on the topic. One of many he's made in the past, I assume (though I could swear he still said they were Bioware's turf somewhere).

 

 

A lot of assumptions in this thread, I see.

If we brought Hawke or the Warden back into the game, and that's if, it need not be them taking a side in the mage-templar conflict-- that's not the entirety of what DAI is about, after all. Or, if they did, it need not involve them explaining at length why they are doing so.

I get that people can imagine things we could have their former PC's do or say that they wouldn't like. That's not hard. Thing is, we're well aware of the risks. We're also aware, however, that no matter what we do there's bound to be some people who are unhappy-- even if we do nothing. That being the case, we're going to proceed with what we think makes for a more compelling story, knowing that some people won't like it. You can assume we'll do it carelessly, but if one's solution is that we should avoid doing anything at all because someone might be unhappy with it... that's not going to happen.

Like I said, whatever we do some people will be unhappy. Guaranteed. Many of them will be here on these forums, because this is where the most hardcore fans hang out (if you're here a year before the game's release, and more than a year after the previous one's release, you qualify), so that's no surprise. There will be upset posts on Tumblr, DAConfessions about how they wish we'd done something else, but that will happen regardless. It's enough to make us cautious, but not so cautious as to avoid doing what we think works best for the story (and game) as a whole.

 

I'll at least given them a cautious benefit of the doubt, but honestly? If I don't like what I see, I'll just headcanon the **** out of it. I already do that for DAO and DAII.

Doesn't mean the main game doesn't. Keep brings in the world state and then you customise your Inquisitor and then Hawke and the Warden perhaps. I don't know. But I shall remain ever hopeful.

Awesome to see Hawke and the Warden.  Lots of stuff to speculate about.  And man, these trailers are dark in tone.
