Ugh, would have rather they not have Hawke and The Warden appear or even mentioned,Bioware are either very confident they can pull it off or are really desperate to win people back. This whole "significant returning cast" thing they have going on is actually putting me off the game

well cool story but most people like the returning characters part

And why does it putt you off? thats just nonsense it adds to the game if you are a veteran DA player (seeing old characters in a new conflict again is awesome and plausible) and if one is a new player then it doesn't matter at all

I guess it depends on your point of view:  Are The Warden and Hawke your characters, or were they the BioWare characters you played before?

sure they were my characters but as long as we can create them again in DA:I and like Mike Laidaw said IF

they return we will be able to do just that

then whats the problem then? I mean its only plausible for Hawke to return since he had a lot to do with the outbreak of the war between mages and templars

and the warden probably returns because of the warden doing something shady (the inquisition was fighting them in one of the trailers)

so its all good in my book as long as they consider the choices from previous games these two made

I just don't understand why some think that Bioware has some responsibility to uphold their headcanon

headcanon doesn't count at all thats just crazy

There's much more to our characters than how they appear.  You agree with this, yes?  The longer they are in the game controlled by the GM/BioWare, the more likely that will be a problem.

There's lots of "headcanon" stuff I don't need to appear - I love making up lots of stuff in my head that need never show up anywhere - but the characters' personalities and attitudes are more than just 'headcanon' - they are a very real part of who they are as characters in the story.

*spoilers for SW : TOR following, if you want to skip this part*

Spoiler

If it helps any, enthusiasm for the concept of having your previous characters be in the game is utterly foreign to me as well, so I share your confusion, even if it is from the other side of the coin.  Heh.

I'm not sure why people feel like both Hawke and the hero of ferelden need to be in the same scene together. In fact I would find that contrived and way too fan servicey. It's also possible the Keep world-state represented in that picture doesn't have a living HoF

Yeah, I don't get it at all. I personally i'm glad to see characters i like making an appearance. Besides, the world goes to **** so it's logical to see Warden and Hawke helping.

To me it makes sense that 'The' warden does not show up.  In a good many of the playthroughs he/she was killed and they have said the default for the game is that the warden sacrificed.   I doubt if we will see our warden at all.

I'm fairly certain the reason Our Warden doesn't appear is because someone wised up and said people aren't going to be happy if he/she ends up being fully voiced.

Don't know if anyone thought about this but since that is a mage Hawke then they would have a male warrior sibling how could become a warden in the deep roads

I hope that the Warden ( if he/she appears) and Hawke try to solve specific problems independent from us and each other. The Warden should deal with Corypheus and the Grey Wardens and Hawke with the Templer-Mage Conflict. At some point point we will meet them and they will help us to solve the problems with the Wardens and Mages/Templers. That would give them a decent role, without being just a cameo, but wouldn't make them too important. Defeating the big bad should be the Inquisitors task.

Fenris and Zevran better be nearby if my Wardens and Hawkes get dragged back in.

Its implied they both disappeared for the same reason or from the same cause.

Or you know... we could control a party of all three in an epic showdown against the big bad. What better companions to take into the final battle than the Warden and the Champion?

Ugh... Going to repeat the same complaint... That's not my Warden (I know it isn't supposed to be The Warden, but still), and that certainly isn't my Hawke.

I seems like such a waste to carefully construct the looks and personalities of past protagonists only to meet with their bland, generic versions in this game...

Hawke has a 13 minute cameo where she does nothing but make snarky remarks while somehow letting lose an ancient evil, getting a bunch of templars possessed by demons, and destroying the Inquisition's accounting records. The Warden-Commander has a 15 minute cameo where he silently fixes all these things.

holy hell this needs to happen

My first thought when watching the video was.... "HEY ITS HAWKE!!"

Followed closely by "I hope this is handled well". In my opinion characters that return as NPC's are a thorny issue for players.

As long as the characters are treated well I would have no problem with them, even if their not as I'd pictured them.

My main fear is the fact that both characters lives may be short in inquisition as the easiest handling of their cameos would simply be to Kill/Sacrifce them .

That said I'm extremely excited for DA:I and cant wait for what Bioware have in store for us.

If BioWare truly reasoned along the lines that modded characters are not supported because they are out of the original games' scopes, it would only reaffirm my fear of them taking away the past player agency gamers enjoyed with their Hawkes for their appearance in DAI.

This is ridiculous.

The only player agency you have is the agency they give you - it's their game, and they set the limitations on what can be done inside it.

If you change or modify the game in any way, that's not their problem and they are under absolutely no obligation to support it. Period.

If you use mods, that's the risk you're taking.

Nope, "BioWare canon" has an "Ultimate Sacrifice" Dalish Warden.

That's why it's *not* the warden, but the Warden-Commander Im guessing.

I've not read through all the pages but I am so excited that Hawke is there because it indicated that *The* Warden is a possibility.

I'm reading into the tweet saying it wasn't *The* Warden as it could be, depending on past playthroughs and Keep choices.

Or that the Warden shown is leading Hawke and Inquisitor to *The* Warden..

I am hopeful :D

*The* Warden can be very important depending on origin too - for example, Male/Female Cousland can be King/Queen and knowing Anora and Alistair are appearing, I think they would mention their missing spouses.

The characters are yours, but only to the extent that they can modified within the framework given and created by the developers.

If you imagine things outside that framework, and the developers later break that "headcanon", that's not really their concern.
