Let's cut out the unnecessary condescension, shall we.
Shouldn't your comment have been in response to Mr. Gaider's comment, i.e. "It's called an iconic look. Intriguing puzzle to crack, I'm sure, but there it is laid out on the table for ya."
You need to talk to Gaider about not leting himself be goaded into saying stupid things before he has another hilarious forum meltdown. The guy just does not help himself or your function as forum mod. Like, at all.

It boils down to either minor or major modifications in the outfit every 2.5 years on average. I think it dispels the idea that "Superman spent 70+ years without a change" pretty good. I mean, when even a person who gets cited as the guy who never changes looks turns out to do it this frequently, it kinda puts to rest that notion of that one never changing, "iconic outfit" being mandatory.and that's 70+ years of iterations and different media. Not to mention other settings and other media because I see several that are out of DC animated universe.

They aren't meltdowns. I believe he's like that all the time. After all, he wrote both Morrigan and Shale - and considers them aspects of himself. That should tell you enough. Heh

That's not really fair... David Gaider was just being his usual snarky self. I always enjoy his comments.

Glad to see BSN focuses on the important issues like always.
Anyway, doesn't Morrigan have like, an Orlesian ball gown and her Apostate attire? It seems perfectly logical she'd want to wear the rags when out flying around as a lowpoly Raven.

One man's brutal honesty is another man's condescending remark I guess. Gaider answered the question, and if you ask me, I thought the tone fit the thread itself, since I personally believe Gaider's answer (Iconic look) was painfully obvious well before the fact.

People absolutely remember the outfit. Some cosplayers will wear her get up without trying to change their appearances beyond that and people already know they're dressed as Morrigan.
Morrigan's attire is very likely Dragon Age's most notable articles of clothing.
I was saying she's not remembered for her outfit. Her character is I'm assuming what the fans grew to like, unless thousands of players romanced her and invested emotionally because they were affectionately attached to her rags?
Her clothes can be a representation of her (in fact, I like when characters are given certain styles and color schemes to match their personality and be identifiable to them), but having literally the same outfit as DA:O is ridiculous to me, and Morrigan is my favorite character of the series; hence me wanting to see her with a new design. She could still maintain her unique aesthetic without it being so literal. For example, someone brought up earlier in the thread that using her regular color scheme would have been a suitable alternative to just recreating her old outfit on the new engine.

I understand that's her style, but... surely there's a way to incorporate details of her DAO outfit into a new one that is still recognizably "Morrigan."

You are all looking at this the wrong way. She's what 13 years older? There are some rumors around she has had a kid. She just wants to put on some old clothes to feel like she's still got it. Geez people. ![]()

Really? Because the first major difference (other then slight colors) took 60 years and that is his after death outfit. Because he needed to be a 90' badass mullet head wielding guns.
Most of the "drastic" changes are entirely alternate histories or dimensions that have just a few books titled to them. Kingdom Come and Red Sun being the best.
Here is Batman

Iconic does not have to mean the same just recognizable. Rambling off topic done here.

If these clothes last I may do the same thing. hahaha
I do, in fact, still own (and wear) clothes from 10 years ago.
One of them is a surprisingly well made Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition t-shirt that still fits and is still in decent shape despite being a regular occurrence in my wardrobe for the past 10 years.

Probably not the same clothes. Just new ones with the same look. Like Indiana Jones.

I like the fact that Morrigan dresses the same way as before, it's nostalgic.

And indeed I believe Morrigan's clothes are light purple now, instead of the dark purple of DAO.

Yes, but you're a man who is talking about a t-shirt. We are talking about a woman who is sporting the same string bikini - and I can promise you, string bikini tops don't last nearly that long.
The problem with the "it's an iconic look" excuse is that it doesn't matter that it was iconic - because it was nonsensical and objectifying. I changed Morrigan's outfit as soon as humanly possible in my playthroughs - not because it made me uncomfortable to look at, but because Morrigan had literally no reason to ever wear them. There was never any acknowledgement by either the character or the narrative that such gear is incredibly impractical when traipsing around the wilds, and disturbingly weird when the only other person around is your mother. There was no reason given or implied for her clothes. Everyone else's outfits had reasons - Leliana wore chantry robes, Alistair wore armor, Sten wore prisoner's clothes, Wynne had a mage's robe, etc etc. Morrigan had a string bikini top and a skirt made of rags that showed off her thighs. It had a plus ten cold defense, which, great - but that was pretty much it. There was no in-game reason for her to wear it; it was there purely so that players who are attracted to women to get an eyeful.
If one of her dialogue options had been "so Warden, why do you dress like that when it's so much more fun to dress like me?" or, perhaps upon equipping her with the Robes of Possession, there's a cutscene where she talks about how she's never felt the cold, and has always loved the feel of wind against her skin, or that the brambles and thorns in the wilds never scratched her, or how she's greatly amused that she gets sexual responses from people based on her clothing - if there had been some acknowledgement of what she was doing, that she was making a deliberate choice? Then sure, it would've actually been really cool and given some commentary on the role of the sexual being.
But instead she's dressed up in the same string bikini because the writers think it's an iconic look - not because there's any in-game reason for Morrigan to still be wearing the same clothes she wore ten years ago. That's not iconic; that's lazy writing to justify a bad decision.
