To be fair, I never understand why some people prefer to see one of the previous protagonists over another, and the next thing that happened is people put their preference protagonist on the pedestal and try to bury the other character down because the lack of voice/blank face or because he/she make many mistakes.
I don't hate the Warden despite the lack of voice, and I hope to see that he/she return. I don't hate Hawke despite the mistake he/she made or how insignificant his/her deeds are compare to the Warden. Frankly, I am one of those people who's glad to see Hawke and hope the Warden will return, but the display of favoritism from both sides are getting annoying.

Who'd be the voice, though? I'm highly skeptical about that, given the number of different Wardens there are out there.

So do I. Not doing so might be an amusing nod to the silent protagonist, but it will also seem like a really half-assed cameo. They're already NPC's doing things out of our control, so it's not like giving the character a voice would really make that any worse.

Is that the Warden?
I mean, it kinda looks like Alistair.
Kinda.
The hair is way off (color & style), no facial hair, and where is his shield? IF he was supposed to be Alistair he would probably be 'default' King Alistair, so my guess contrary to what Bioware is saying is that he is 'A' warden.

The Hero of Ferelden deserve a proper story and proper voice actor.. I mean, I wouldn't mind if he/she doesn't appear in Inquisition.. I would rather him to appear in the next Dragon Age game or a separate expansion than appear in Inquisition "Hey, I'm the hero of ferelden and this is my favourite weapon to vanquish evil* *gives the Inquisitor his/her weapon and disappear again".
I want a full, meaningful closure. After all, HoF is the one who made Dragon Age.. and his/her friends of course..
As for Hawke, maybe the customization options are not that extensive. Maybe it will be just conversation options with Varric. Like the Inquisitor ask him about Hawke gender, hair length, skin colour and such.. lol.. If that's the case.. Lots of people going to be upset

He turned ginger in the comics.
Cullen doesn't have his old hair either.
He shaved.
Respec'd. Sword and board is boring anyway.
I don't think it is Alistair, but boy did I do a double take when this fella popped up.

I don't understand all the Hawke-hatred. It just seems like people associate him/her too much with the flaws of DA2, and some comments I've seen indicate to me that the commenters appear to have forgotten that Hawke is their own character.
Hawke wasn't important? The Champion was responsible for thwarting a military Qunari takeover of Kirkwall, and played a key role in the start of the Mage/Templar War and the downfall of the Andrastean Chantry. If that is not important, I don't know what is.
Considering all these facts, Hawke also seems to have much more connection to the 'convenient chaos' that is happening in Thedas at the time of Inquisition, and behind of which the 'Big Bad' seems to be, thus making Hawke's appearance in DA:I a lot more logical than that of the Warden (supposedly).
And sarcastic fem!Hawke was just awesome, you can't deny that.
My problem with Hawke in DA:I is that I'm affraid their presence will overshadow the inquisitor. And that shouldnt happen. This is the story about the Inquisitor, and not about Hawke.

I enjoyed the fact that for once I could play a character who was just a regular old arsehole rather than just the usual angry murderous arsehole with a stick up their butt.

Hawke and (A) Warden probably won't even have that much screen time to overshadow our main tbh.

I wouldn't worry about that even for the slightest tbh, if Hawke and the Warden (if he/she are in DA:I) appear it may only overshadow the Inquisitor for the moment in the epic moment of Triforce against the big bad (assuming what they have shown in the trailer are near the ending) it still won't overshadow the Inquisitor who has 150+ hours of screen time anyway.

Yeah, do not worry about Hawke/Warden overshadowing the Inquisitor. I'm sure their appearance will be close to the story climax, so at that point you'll have established yourself as the alpha dog of Thedas.

And no, I wouldn't worry about Hawke overshadowing the Inquisitor - I assume you mean in the limited screentime the Champion will have, i.e. they will appear as a larger-than-life legend instead of just an important person. Though I do suspect Hawke will be elevated to a higher level of importance than in DA2 itself, but this may have to do with their role in certain changes that have occurred in Thedas.
But this is ultimately thr Inquisitor's story, and it seems to me that BioWare will be very careful about making sure that the player feels that way about the game.

You know, what if the Warden, if he/she appears, gets one of the VA's that weren't selected for that playthrough's Inquisitor? So a male Warden might get Jon Curry if the Inquisitor then is voiced by Harry Haden-Paton.
What if the Inquisitor and the Warden were different genders, though? Just randomly pick and choose between the two VAs for the other gender?

I have considered that, and yeah, I think that would be best. Or just have the game always picks, let's say, Alix Wilton Regan for a female Warden, but when she's picked as the VA for the Inquisitor, the game will automatically choose Sumalee Montano.

Or if they did what you said they could follow the logic of the game if the Inquisitor was a male:
If your warden is a female elf/human Alix is default
If your warden was a dwarf Sumalee is default.
I don't think this will be the case though. I do want the Warden, if in game to have a voice. Even when hearing the few things the Warden says during battle, I don't really picture them with any of the voices I chose. If it looked like my warden hearing a chosen voice would not make their cameo lessen.

You raise a good point, in that it might be quite weird. I actually don't imagine my idea will be how they approach the Warden's voice, but it's interesting to think about.
I'm worried about giving the Warden a voice, though. Not because I might hate what they do with it, but how it will be received by fans.

In my personal opinion, and I am not shaming anyone who does think this way or anything, those who really want the Warden to be in game really should be open and not be mad about the voices picked (if there were any) would most likely not match what they picked in Origins. There are way too many options in Origins in between race.

While I hope BW refrain from bringing the Warden into it at all, doing that would have me react to that move the same way I reacted to "Revan" in TOR, as in I would not be able to take it seriously whatsoever. For sake of consistency between my playthroughs of DA:O and DAI.
As for Hawke, not thrilled about their reappearance either for that reason, them being voiced in DA2 already or no.

Like someone said, Hawke or Warden appearing won't "overshadow" the quizzy. The Inquisitor is literally everywhere.
So, overshadowning? Hardly.
Previous protagonists making a cameo is fine, the game will still be about quizzy.
It's funny tho, you see Hawke in one scene and you think the game will be about Hawke.

I'm cool with them just going the same route as they went with the Inquisitor, and using four voice actors. Two British (male and female) and two American/Canadian (male and female).
I also don't mind if they aren't the original VAs, because the Warden had no real spoken dialogue in DA:O. You just got little sayings that repeated over & over again when you clicked on something or tried to open a chest. I'm okay with that not being canon. I prefer that to the Warden showing up and being mute at least.

I wouldn't be surprised if half of these people are gonna rush through the story just so that they can finally meet Hawke again. That's what I mean with overshadowing.
"Who cares about this inquisitor person, I wanna meet Hawke!"
