Bioware never confirmed that the Warden will appear, they confirmed Hawke. And I have  the intuition that Bioware will certainly screw that up, one little appearance and off she goes ! :(

When I realize what they did to the Exile and Revan in the Kotor saga, i've got some reason to believe that neither the Warden nor Hawke will get a satisfying appearance/ending in DA:I

I sincerely hope I will be mistaken

They should be worrying actually, more than us. If they screw up this one too my attitude might change to life-time hater.

Why aren't we gushing over this, people?

So long as they allow us to "tweak" their appearances after the base import from The Keep (as seems to be the case per the tweet here ), then I'm excited about it and I'm cool with the HoF and The Champion showing up for cameos in DAI.  I'd be worried about what would happen to them -- specifically to the HoF -- if we couldn't change them after import, though.

On a minor side, I had CC mods in DAO that would likely not come through correctly, probably leading to bald wardens.  On a major side, I would be extremely worried about what would happen to my Elven wardens on import, considering the elf redesign done in DA2... Maker help them if they made my cannon m!Dalish warrior look like a skin-bleached Na'vi.  I still shudder over what they did to Zevran's appearance in DA2.

Most likely will, and I'm feeling the same about The Warden

Dragon age 4 would be a nightmare for the devs with people asking to see 3 older protagonists :3

For the Warden, I highly doubt BioWare would underwhelmingly kill a past protagonist off-screen.

The Warden Commander and Hawke have One quest towards helping the foundation of inquisition . Hopefully it will give them closure and they can live their lives without the DA4 part 2 reunion.

What would be the bigger nightmare?

Dealing with a few fringe elements that can't let go of their old protagonists to the point of insisting they should be back in the next game, or being swarmed by a great mass of people being justifiably angry that their old protagonist got killed? Also, I think they're going to be careful about even suggesting a canonical death after ME3.

If they must bring back The Warden Commander and Hawke I hope they end their stories on a good note to avoid this maddness in the future.

Double edged sword unfortunately

Hmmm, I just did the Revanite questline.  I'm kind of enjoying SWTOR.

Well they could handle DA4 like how they're dealing with ME4 and set the timeframe of DA4 to a time where the original cast of DAO, DA2, and DAI have already died of old age or other death methods. Thus allowing them to make a sequel without bring back old characters since the timeframe is set in a time where they can't live long enough to be in.

I wouldn't have a problem with past protagonists dying if it was actually a good on-screen sendoff.

If they were to give the Warden an underwhelming off-screen death, however, I'd rather they'd just left it to the player's imagination.

I wish. Unfortunately I don't trust anyone to make a head-canon which doesn't involve ridding out into the sunset with X love interest while fireworks mysteriously fire into the sky.

They are in the world, so people will keep demanding them to get involved in the worlds business and they'll probably want something very specific, which will never happen.

Kill your darling, as they say.

Why wouldn't they, they seem to have no problems killing off character during cutscenes. And there isn't much difference between an offscreen death and a cutscene death when that death would have been easily preventable if it had occurred at a time when you were able to control your character.

You don't get to play god.

The actions In gameplay don't accurately represent the actual actions. That would be silly especially for DA: O.

SWTOR completely destroyed Revan's character at every oppurtunity. From using the wrong version of Revan (light sided male), to saying Revan was just the ****** of another force user, to making Revan the boss of a throwaway mid level dungeon.

You can't do a sendoff for a character in another game when that character used her tactical genius and strong force connection to gain control of the entire galaxy at the end of a different game.

The actions during gameplay most certainly represent the actual actions occuring within the reality of the game world. If you have no agency in the game, then what is the point of even playing a game instead of watching a movie? Game developers should never rob a player of their agency by making events occur within a cutscene that the player could and would have prevented if they were allowed to control their character when being able to exercise control over how the story unfolds is one of the purposes of playing a game instead of watching a movie.

When you prevent a death you aren't playing god, you are simply exercising the agency you have within the reality of the game world.

If they did, we wouldn't have cut-scenes.

If you recall the animation In DA: O where the dragon snaps you up from the ground and bites into you. Every character, even the PC, would die from that if it wasn't gameplay unless a spell intervened with the animation/action.

When you prevent a death you aren't playing god, you are simply exercising the agency you have within the reality of the game world.

Some things are just inevitable and someone will die for it. Managing to save everyone, in everything, is playing god.
