The squadmates including your love interests do appear sometime in the story. Its all in the FAQ ( http://www.masseffect.com/info/faq/ )

lol, well i made sure Kaiden wouldn't join me.

but i was hoping that Liara and Ash would stick around.

i dunno, i dont like going our seperate ways (unless death is involved) especially with that task at hand.

Tali and Garrus will be squadmates.



Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, and Wrex all get small cameo roles.

You about have the gist of it, and yes there are many who are sad about it.  We are what BW has called "acceptable losses".
