Athena? In DA?

Personally, I think it's Athena blessing the inquisitor with the wisdom and knowledge of how to seal the ruptured fade.
You mean an Athena equivalent for Thedas? I thought an elven Inquisitor could think it was Sylaise, the Hearthkeeper.

I would assume an Athena equivalent is what was meant because as far as I know, real life deities do not exist within Thedas' belief systems.

Come on am I the only one that wants to role play as a power hungry corrupt madman that wants to use this situation to make himself a world wide cult leader?
"I walked amongst the darkness and in that darkness I found the Light! The Maker chose me to be his messenger in this world and the next! I am the Left Hand of God!"
*Inquisitor raises his left hand and fade magic erupts from it*
"I am your light through the darkness! I am the way!"

Hmmm...I wonder if the Avvar are into syncretism.
Well...
The Avvars still worship the old gods of the Alamarri, the chief among them Korth the Mountain-Father, Hakkon Wintersbreath, and The Lady of the Skies. Andraste, a barbarian, is said to have prayed first to Korth and the Lady, but her prayers fell on deaf ears until the Maker answered.
The Avvars have a complex pantheon, which includes both nature spirits and legendary mortals who have ascended to the heavens. This is further complicated by the fact that the pantheon varies somewhat from hold to hold, as every clan has its own sacred tales and heroes; however, all Avvars agree on the three greatest gods. These are Korth the Mountain Father, Haakon Wintersbreath, and the Lady of the Skies. Imhar the Clever and the Great Bear Sigfost are also revered in most communities
Sounds like the Maker, and any other deity out there is just one more among a multitude for them.

In my FennecQuisition I distanced myself from the term, and picked options that (at least to me) clearly indicated I wasn't a Chantry loyalist.
I saw dialogue options that indicated the idea of accepting and/or acknowledging the idea that some feel I'm the Chosen One and perhaps even believing it myself. I didn't pick those options, however. (FennecQuisition was derailed due to finding some interesting bugs [yay!] so I'll be restarting a character. Probably a Dwarf).
then my purchase decision will definitely be based on now ant-chantry you can be, I find the other faiths of Thedas far more interesting, the Elven Pantheon or the Alamari Pantheon, and would prefer to have the option of not believing in the maker at all, but picking another faith.

Sounds like the chant is heresy and it's followers should be purged by the followers of the true gods.

IF I could follow that with 'now crucify all the chantry heretics' you may have something I'd consider doing.
Then you'd be happy to hear that the moment my cult leader has a sizable following the "True' Inquisition will begin by purging the heretics from the world.
Let's not prance around it eventually my Inquisitor will end up saying that he is the Maker bound in human flesh. lol

That is one of the most bizarrely specific and obscure make-or-break criteria for a game purchase that I have ever seen.
I mean, it's your money, but wow.

I'm not exactly pro-chantry myself, but it sounds like someone is a little intense with their negative feelings about it. ![]()

I might be the only one but I will definitely support the chantry ( like I did in DA:O, DA:II) I mean I wouldn't support them in real life BUT its a game
and I like to roleplay I'm also actually looking forward to play as a crazy leader
who considers himself a miracle by the maker maybe one can even take advantage of that

im more curious about the actually powers, after watching the latest demo from Gamescom 2014, we saw that a warrior inquisitor was still able to use fade rift powers despite her class type. This wasn't just opening and closing a rift but seemed to be a actually combat attack that was said to banish demons in combat. How many powers does the inquisitor have outside of her class selection, and are they upgradeable? Are they specific to each class type of inquisitor? The banishing demons ability and potential other rift powers really makes me feel like a Warrior or Rogue inquisitor could still carry the role of Fighter/Mage type if the powers vary enough, and that's one of my favorite character arch types.

In real life i'm Athiest but the idea of role playing as a sort of Messiah or pro religious zealot excites me very much. I really hope I can basically make out that i'm some sort of Jesus wannabee with the added addition of an army.

Also, it's one line.. which could be replaced potentially by a dwarf saying: "I may have lost the Stone, but there is yet a Paragon beneath the Sky that will lead us to victory." or a Qunari: "I have betrayed country, people and philosophy to stand here today. Today I stand for the Inquisitor and the Inquisition." (though I'd dress that up with qunari terminology.
Hasn't it been confirmed repeatedly that you won't have to believe in Andrastianism - serve the Maker - etc. etc.? Bioware games try very hard to cater to every demographic - I hardly think they'd purposefully alienate their staunch atheist crowd.

Couldn't Kolgrim be a "Herald of Andraste" too?
Maybe you get to decide just what it means to be such a "Herald".

Just because someone calls you the Herald of Andraste, doesn't mean you are. Only one person in the trailer calls you that, and who knows their reasoning behind it. Nowhere does it suggest that you have to self-identify as the herald. It's far more likely that various people in Thedas might try to explain who you are in any number of ways (how did you survive teh Fade? what is that mark on your hand, and what does it mean?) Herald of Andraste might just be one of a variety of different ways people you encounter will try to label you.

Oh oops, forgot it's Cullen who calls you that near the end; I'm thinking of the Avvar guy in teh gameplay video from GC. But of course, Cullen*is* part of the Chantry, so it follows that his belief would inform his opinion of you.

At least one of my playthroughs will be a zealot Human rogue inquisitor who will demand subservience to him as the new prophet of the Maker. The others will probably be religiously apathetic Agnosticism.

Elder one: think you can stop me Herald of Andraste?

I don't think the people who disagree with the Chantry are all atheists, but I certainly hope you're right about the cultural and spiritual differences of the different racial characters being reflected in the story.
