But it will still feature choices. If the Inquisitor is made into a religious figure head having the option to not be cool with that is pretty obvious. I would expect it to be there, though the exact details and motives will be limited.

Would the character be a religious figure to his own people? Would elves see the Dalish protagonist as a religious figure of the Creators, for example, or would this simply be another human centric issue of focusing only on the human religion?

Yes. Do any of you have reason to believe that BioWare will NOT include an option to voice our characters displeasure at the religious connotation?

Yes. They said "You can roleplay against the Alliance" before ME3 came out. The DA team *appears* to have a different philosophy, but yes, I do have reason to be skeptical.

I know that. That's why I didn't say I want to disassociate myself *successfully* in others' eyes, only that I want to make my stance unmistakably clear without having to be an ass about it. If I'm fated to be perceived as a religious figure, at least let me make every attempt to discourage people, so that I won't feel the story attempts to make me complicit in turning my character into someone I don't like. Yeah, I recall ME3 not too fondly in that regard.

Fair enough. Mm, let's see if there are other Bioware examples...

Oh, I know. In SWTOR, the Jedi Consular's first companion is a Trandoshan (big, green lizard-man) devoted to a goddess called Scorekeeper that rewards honorable hunting. After some adventures, the companion insists that the Jedi Consular is the Scorekeeper's Herald. The character has several options to say that they aren't, don't believe or can't be because they aren't even Trandoshan, mostly in a very polite way, but the result is the same. Your companion will be convinced that you are the Herald of his goddess.

I think it may be the same in DA:I.

As much as it makes me groan sometimes, the idea of one of the responses being "militantly atheist" would be hilarious. Especially if people react to it.

I agree with you, I just don't think what Ieldra is asking is unfeasible outside of pen and paper. I probably could have worded it better.

That would be OK with me. I think that having to deal with being perceived as a religious figure can add to the story as a personal conflict, but only if you have enough options to express yourself.

Only the true Herald would deny their divinity!

Andrastian: let's follow the bearer of the Holy Gourd!

Qunari: No, the shoe, the shoe is the answer!

Cassandra: He's not the herald, he's just a very naughty boy.

P.S. It's settled: I shall Call him Brian, Brian Trevelyan and, next time don't bother with the myrr. Balms could hurt the baby.

Being associated with Andraste does not neccesarily mean you support the Chantry. Actually you could become the greatest enemy of the Chantry with a title such as "Herald of Andraste".

*temptation to make first inquisitor a dalish elf who strongly believes in the creators rising*

I expect it to go down like this..

*snip*

Oh god this is going to be so brilliant.

I imagine it is a title we are given. I hope we can choose our own, my one would be 'The Fade Touched'.

It could be that the name you are adressed by will depend on how much you play up the 'touched by the Maker' thing. Inquisitor if you don't follow the religious route, Herald of Andraste if you do. I've heard someone say 'your worship' in there too.

If this is about playing a Dalish, I'm sure you'll get the option ti disagree.

Could the title have a connection to whoever that green being was in the newest trailer?

Since, I suppose, there will be no-one seeing you trying to reach the hand of the lady-made-of-light-with-a-giant-bucket-on-her-head what you'll be called will depend upon what your character will say to others about his/her experience.

If your character is an Andrastian it's likely he/she will tell Andraste hast touched him/her (naughty Andraste), same goes for a Dalish and the Creators; personally I like to play non-religious characters since the fantasy trope: "yes there's a personal god called X and you're his special little snowflake" is just lazy compared to many other more original answers.

Still the point is that I hope you won't be forced to be the new Andraste still people in the game will try to explain your character's experience following their own beliefs so, while humans might call your Dalish Creators-fearing Inquisitor 'Andraste's Herald' that doesn't mean he is or even accepts the title. Annoying, I know.

It could be race specific, we've only heard used on human Inquisitors.

Hah, imagine a qunari "Herald of Andraste".

Hey , I would love to play a big mean male Qunari warrior who would pretend he's Andraste reborn.

He could sing too ,new canticle of the Chant of Light.

His name would be Cookie. It would sound great  :Canticle of Cookie.

"I have a warrior Goddess inside of me , and I did not eat her."

So much potential.

I doubt this will have any significance beyond how Andrastians choose to view your character.  Dwarves and Dalish don't typically believe in the Maker, so it doesn't make sense that they'd force this upon the PC.  You might be able to express distaste for the title at some point, but that probably won't change how the public views your character...

Makes me wonder if the glowing hand thing is a link to Andraste and she's the one closing the rifts when you're the one supposedly doing it.
