Elder One: Oh I'm afraid the fade shields will be quite operational when your friends arrive...
As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL fade walk!

Young fool even now in the end do you understand.
I forgot about Leliana and her 'vision'.. I wonder if she really made it all up or did she really had one.. If she did have one.. Maybe the 'Elder one' was the one who came to her, not the maker.
Would be nice if the Elder one did visited her in her dream and mention about it in the Inquisition
I wonder if the heavy scaled dragon is the Elder One? The creature was in the background during most of the time the Elder One was speaking. If so perhaps his choice of place to blow up - the Temple of Ashes - attracting a High Dragon to lay her eggs wasn't by chance? Hell for all we know it might even be related to why the Disciples of Andraste turned to dragon worship so many centuries ago.
Am I the only one that is hoping the Elder One's goals are more grey then simply "I will rule the world hahahaha!"?

I think that went out the window when he said "Bow before your new god and be spared" *evil laughs at the end of trailer*

Not necessarily I think Buddha said the same thing once ![]()
However since diplomacy is suppose to be a valid option in the game I'm really hoping that there's some way to sit the Elder One down at the table and talk him out of his evil plans.
Just think about how unexpected and awesome that would be to beat the villain without 'beating' him?
Elder One "Bow before your new god and be spared"
*Several minutes of conversation with the Inquisitor*
Elder One "You know I think my request was a little too harsh but I still think that..."
*Several more minutes the Elder One and Inquisitor come out of the meeting room*
Elder One "So I guess I'll be going now."
Leliana "What?"
Elder One "Yeah sorry about the whole war thing. It was a mistake on my part I'll just take my army of monsters back to the Fade now."

When they say Diplomacy is an option I presume that means for certain missions (Orlais Civil War, maybe Grey Wardens), but I doubt we will be able to talk down the Elder One. That would be a bit of a let down. He just shrugs and goes away, very anticlimactic.

I disagree I think being able to talk the Elder One down would be the most unexpected and entertaining thing that you could put in a game. Having a big fight at the end with the villain and you win and he dies cursing you/swearing he'll be back then you get pat on the back by your friends..... that I find anticlimactic and boring. Every fantasy game does this and every time its the same thing.
Having Diplomacy actually be an option in a game would be mind blowing to me and definitely not anticlimactic at all.

That could work if your villain is set as someone who you can use diplomacy with, which I suspect isn't the case of the Elder One. Mainly because he is in the best case scenario "alien" to us, and probably thinks and reasons in a way we cannot understand, as much he can't understand us. Negotiating with someone like this is problematic, if not at all impossible. One can argue that we may attempt to understand him and reach a compromise, but the last time BioWare tried to pull a compromise-with-the-baddie was in Mass Effect 3, and.. well, look how that ended(pun intended).
But I agree with you, we should be given more options to talk down or refuse to fight with the set antagonist, one of the things I enjoyed the most in The Witcher 2 was how you could back down from fighting Letho.
I like to think the elder one is that zombiefie dragon. Otherswise, that spider looking thingy reminds me of the dalish carvings of their god Elger'nan and June.
You know ... Elder One sounds phonetically similar to Elgar'nan.
O_O I KNEW IT!
The Dalish brought about the end of the world!

SpoilerI wish we could see more of that in dark fantasy RPG's.
In The Witcher 2 that wasn't the single final boss battle, if I recall correctly there were 2 other 1v1 fights in close proximity to that.
That worked with Letho because of his relationship with Gerralt and the fact that they were more similar than dissimilar. In DAI it appears the Elder One seeks to become a God. If someone has ambitions of deification then I doubt (s)he'd back down quite so easily as getting a stern talking to.
It would be cool to resolve certain scenarios with diplomacy though. Alexius jumps to mind, he seems to be as afraid of the Elder One as we are, and his dialogue indicates he attempted to stop what is coming, but failed. It would be cool if certain branching paths led us to convincing Alexius to join with us and help stop the Elder One.

I'm just really happy we've got ourselves a singular, sentient, menacing threat in a BioWare game again. I hope his presence pervades like hell. I've missed that feeling.

I loved Saren in ME, plus the diplomacy option to skip the 2nd to last fight was a cool addition (although too easy to get in my opinion). Neither DA game has really had a visible overarching enemy. Loghain was cool, but he was only involved in 1/2 the plot lines, and the Archdemon never spoke a single word so that didn't really add to its 'Big Bad' factor. KotOR had Malak, who did a fair job being a good primary antagonist. Jade Empire I loved, the plot twists all felt natural and I was never left feeling like there wasn't an evil that needed fighting.
Hopefully the Elder One will provide the same feeling for DAI.

Personally I'd rather we have a group of people similar to how this season of Legends of Korra
