Already signed up for the Alpha.
The idea itself seems interesting, although I'll need to see how BioWare puts it all together in practice.

So its going to be one player controlling the enemy being the shadowlord and 4 players playing coop vs his minions is that about right?

Yeah, it seems like they're going for a similar thing to what games like Dungeonland does. Almost like a D&D GM.

Pretty much, yeah. I signed up for the alpha as well. Looks like a cool idea for a game.

I have explained the current available gameplay in the respective offtopic section threads. You can look up there to get some more details.

I've heard lots of people signing up for alpha. It doesn't look very interesting to me though...

People said the same about the ME3 MP, then they played the demo.
It appears to be one of those things that look uninteresting, until you get your hands on it. I can say that is way very much fun to play, even though the current build is pre-alpha and hence only a very short demo.

Just poked around and had a look. Seems there's going to be so many variables in how to play the game that it's bound to be chock full of Working as Intended™ moments. Especially being BioWare.
My hat is off to their uber-nerdiness though...

Bioware and EA took on Star Wars the Old Republic and turned it all into a mega vending machine. If you subscribe to the game (15 bucks a month) you are given access to most things but for some of the awesome customization gear, you would have to pay for it with real money. if you are free to play, you can get all the way up to max level but it's like going through a toll booth every mile you drive in order to avoid the little annoyances. It's a surprise to me that they don't spam commercial advertisements on Free to play.
I would imagine that's how they will do it with Shadow Realms, if I get into alpha and beta, I'll check it out. But beyond that, I am not sure I would want to. I like a game that I can play to enjoy, not something that constantly makes me feel like a walking piggy bank.

That's really only because ToR is free to play, though. The vast majority of F2P games will do that sort of stuff.
Of course since it's EA, I wouldn't be surprised if it had micro-transactions even as a normal pay to play game like Mass Effect 3 had.

Oh, I will probably check it out, mind you. I'm just not hyped at this moment, so although things might change, I don't think I'll sign up for the alpha...

If anyone is getting rejected when applying for the alpha, it's because you're an old like me. Tell it you're 29 instead of (in my case) 40 and it'll accept your application.
Fukken youngsters. Now GOML!

True. Well playing an alpha usually is pretty frustrating, so you'll play it, tell me how it is, and if it's any good you can curry my scurby ass to glory when it comes out! ![]()

Just kidding... I'm not too far behind you. Almost 35. Old enough that the tv my family had when I was little had vhf/uhf dials... and I was the remote.
Now, back to discussions that no one really cares about...
