So says the Chantry. We all know that they never tell lies.
Well what have they lied about that you know? We now know that the magisters DID go to the Golden/Black City and took the taint with them that created the Darkspawn.

The Chantry is always getting its facts mixed up.
The Chant of Light claims that the "Maker's" city was golden until Tevinter Magisters tainted it. Corypheus, however, said that it was already black when they entered the Fade.
No one even knows who called the Golden City home. The Chantry preaches that it was the Maker's. Tevinter asserts that it was the dwelling place of the Old Gods. How are we to know who is telling the truth?
Flemeth is the formless one. Bam. Just solved one of the story mysteries.
Say that the Tevinter is right.... The Old Gods inhabited the Golden/Black City. The only way for a creature in the fade to physically manifest itself into the real world is a tear in the Veil (much like what is happening in DA:I). But then what would make them slumber in the Deep Roads?
I never believe Chantry lies.....
I consider the Chantry to be as much a political institution as a spiritual one, and as such they have a temporal power interest that they're keen to hold onto. I don't judge them for that de facto, but I do take everything they say with a certain number of grains of salt. They aren't going to willingly compromise their position if all they get from it is a feeling of self-satisfied honesty... especially not if they can convince people to believe what they want to present as the truth.
Which isn't to say I take the Tevinter Mages' word as gospel, either-- I just think trusting the Chantry as a Spiritual organization while ignoring their very real Political presence (see: the current Divine) is short-sighted.
But on-topic, I think Flemeth is the Formless One. What I'm really looking forward to (and hoping we see) is dialogue between Flemeth and either the Venatori, or the Elder One itself. That would be amazing, both as spectacle and as lore-building. Any time Flemeth has dialogue, awesomeness ensues.

Well that is basicly what religion is in the purest sense - a societal tool to rule and control the weak-minded masses. But yeah nothing they say should be taken as granted either way. I too hope Flemeth turns out to be the formless one, and yes - she cant open her mouth without awesomeness spilling out of every orifice ![]()
Is it just me or do each of those titles (The Elder one, The Forbidden one, The Formless one) remind anyone else of Lovecraftian monsters? Reminds me of Hastur or Yog-Sothoth...I think I may have too many different mythoses (sp?) in my head now and they are melding. Anyways, I hope it's not Flemeth, Corypheus or anything we've seen so far...I hope it's something entirely new, something to make me go Holy S***! What the- What is That?! Oooh, awesome! Ummmm...ATTACK!?!

I think the greek plural of "mythos"/"muthos" (dat upsilon) is "mythoi". Correct me if I'm wrong on that one please, Eirene

Can I try to be smart also? I once tried to find the origin of the word zeal. This ofcourse while procrastinating. I cant re-find it, but I think I ended up with the origin of this word (despite dictionaries saying unknown origin) tracing back to a similar word in greek which meant to burn. As in a burning fire or heat.
This would make sense since zealous behaviour could mean to burn for something if you use a metaphor. If this is correct then the adjective zealous would actually have its origin transfered from a verb.
Sorry for spelling errors english isnt my native language and feel free to correct me if Im wrong ![]()
With the highly relevant caveat that I don't actually know Attic, Koine, Byzantine, Demotic, or Katharevousa Greek (
)...yes, singular nouns ending in -os usually pluralize to -oi.
I thought so...didn't feel like looking it up, my computer is acting funny, a second tab to google spelling freezes it up.

What? I'm not completely sure, but I think you got something mixed up. As far as I remember Tevinter never believed that the old gods lived in the golden city. The Magisters also thought that it was the abandonned home of some creator and Dumat told them to go there and claim his position as god for themselves.

No, it's not just you. But Bioware often does build lovecraftian elemets ito their storytelling. The whole Darkspawn plot for example is very much inspired by Lovecraft:
Old gods that sleep beneath the earth until they are awoken to start the apocalypse (sounds familiar right). Bonus points for the fact that their minnios are horrible monsters whose presence alone can corrupt people and make them lose their sanity (trough the taint).
