I really think the Warden needs to make a cameo or be mentioned, for those who chose the ultimate sacrifice. There needs to be some closure. Wardens don't just ride off into the sunset and are never heard from or seen again.Ignoring it is cowardly. Sure,it would be hard but so is everything else they do. Nothing they do will please everyone, that's a given.Although the Warden's chapter is "closed", I think we deserve closure. I really don't feel that it is an unfair request or expectation.
The Warden in the Enemy trailer is NOT your Warden, says Mike Laidlaw.

Finally, of course, IMO none should be returning in DA:I. Not Morrigan, not Varric, none. But that's just me, of course.
That would be the safest way. And what's wrong with entirely new, interesting, exciting cast of characters? And let the old be tied to their old games.
What's dangerous about returning characters? I get that having old PCs act in a way inconsistent with the way the players saw them is potentially problematic, but barring a complete 180 there's not nearly so much danger to picking up the story of a previous game's NPC.

If both the warden and the hawke are appearing then then it is a definite that we will be able to customize our previous characters. One mechanic I have seen is the use of a mirror to change what the appearance of a character looks like. This was done in black emporium as well as divinity original sin in the homestead. I am convinced that the implementation of the customization of the warden and hawke from the previous games will be done by such a mechanic in our keep.

See, the way I would justify that is that people change. It's been 10+ years, so as long as the fundamentals are there, I don't personally see an issue with it.

In case with blank character there is no closure unless they will die or write their own character what pretty much kills entire point.Pretty much it will end with another revan.

They make setting unreliable and feel small?Of course i don't mind returning characters it was done fine in daa however bioware constantly bring back old character making world spin around them. Then just look at anders completely different character and went from one of most loved in daa characters to one of most hated characters in entire and it went so far that peoples started send death threats to his writer.Far better would be just create new character instead restoring old with completely different personality.

In all likelihood, this is the Orlesian Warden-Commander. Remember, in Bioware's default world state the Warden was a female Dalish elf that took the Ultimate sacrifice.
While this is a possibility, if they didn't want to announce the Warden, they could have chosen a scene where Hawke was alone to include in the trailer.
I'm taking Mike Laidlaw at his word and assuming that the warden in the trailer was in no way connected to the events of DAO. If I'm proved wrong, I'll be very puzzled why they included the scene and denied it was the Warden.

There's no possible ending where Hawke is dead, right?
I wonder if the Warden will be mentioned verbally without making an appearance since there are so many different variances.

They chose that one and did that, because they love torturing the fans and seeing how far down the rabbit hole we go with speculation. xD

Well, at least all the LIs are new characters. (Well, so far. Maybe Varric's going to be an LI?) At any rate, the advisor I'm most likely to listen to (in my first game, anyway) is also the only new character in that bunch.
As for Anders, he hasn't completely changed. The mixed Anders/Justice is pretty much what you'd expect would happen if they merged going off of Justice's inflexibility when speaking of moral issues and Anders's subdued anger which is evident pretty much any time he discusses the Circle. The only differences in Anders character are those that can be accounted for by having a magical being that views the world in black and white gaining more control over him by the year and inhibiting his ability to restrain himself. (Well, that and the fact that he's openly bi, though Gaider apparently pictured him as bi the whole time he was writing him, and I was wondering if he was flirting with me during the "may I point out that you're all right" dialogue.)

From what they said varric isn't LI.Worst thing is that it is still a lot of time before game release and we have already a lot returning character (for now 11).
About Anders there is always excuse that you can come up why person changed personality so it isn't problem for writer pretty much what they are doing with cullen and they bring him 3 time for no reason.I disagree anders is almost completely opposite what he was in daa not even his views on mage-templar thing are same in daa he was funny and easy going in da 2 he is 99 % of time serious and grumpy include his obsession as well.Practically new character save for backstory you can pretty much tell how different he is in 2 games where in first he was one of most loved companions and in second as i said one of the most hated character in the da setting.

As for the serious and grumpy, I forgot to mention that the being he merged with doesn't know what a sense of humor is. As for the rest of it, talk to Anders in Awakening, and listen when he talks to Justice. The most important bits of what you see in DA2 are there. Look beneath the humor and ignore the unwillingness to actually act on it, and you'll see the anger.

Well anders know (knew) what humor is.What anger sure he is angry when you tell that mages should be locked but was totally easy going in daa when they turned him in da 2 into emo.So yep we practically 2 different characters even his popularity ranking in 2 games is on 2 different ends of the stick. And as i said if you want you can justify everything in fiction even cullen showing up for next 9 games and that doesn't make it good.
In the end they broke 2 interesting characters anders and justice to create da 2 anders (it wasn't worth it) and well i mentioned that ended up with death threats towards anders writer. Not to mention core of the problems that they already as i said spam with old characters easier and better would be simple write new character than bring old and change him completely.

The sky has opened up and the world is on the verge of ending. It'd make less sense if people who travelled with The Warden and Hawke didn't turn up to where the action is, for whatever reason.

So? In ferelden was blight doesn't mean that everyone from the world came to ferelden just to see the warden.

It's Alistair, as a Warden. Not the king of Ferelden, not a wandering drunk. Grey Warden Alistair. That's my take on that dude with Hawke.
Personally, I think their face is too clean shaven to be Alistair; especially for an Alistair that's remained a Grey Warden.
Also, people have pointed out that it looks similar to the default human character in the CC for DA:O.
