Why shouldn't a person have the option getting all of the SP achievements without playing MP? I will be playing this game for quite awhile. Not everybody plays MP you know including me and have no interest in playing it either.

Who said you couldn't get all sp achievements? You wouldn't get 100% completion without MP, but you could get all SP achievements

I skipped the MP achievements because I didn't feel like getting them.

Too bad.

If you want 100% for achievements, you have to do all of them. Not the ones that appeal to you personally. Not the ones that you find easy and fun.

If anything, I prefer games to have achievements for actions and activities that are difficult or rare.
  • Finish the game with only one of your companions still alive/with you.
  • Finish the game with a PC of every class and race
  • Unlock every area, discover every codex entry, slay all 20 high dragons, unlock every perk for your Inquisition, uncover every secret, and complete all possible side-quests (even mutually exclusive ones).
  • Unlock every class and weapon in MP and upgrade all of them to max level.
I would be more than happy if a regular playthru of DA:I only unlocked 20% of the possible achievements.

If MP is part of the game, it's part of the game. That you don't like it or aren't interested in it means jack all. If someone has done MP while you haven't, then they should have unlocked achievements you haven't.

I agree with the spirit of this post but I do have one reservation.  Achievements based around MP really require you to play the game within the first few months of it's release.  Unless it's a game like Halo or COD.  Otherwise you end up with a situation where there's a slew of MP achievements but you can't get any of them because nobody's playing MP anymore.  For example I just played Tomb Raider last month but I can't even start up matches because nobody is playing Tomb Raider multiplayer or at least nobody at decent hours for where I live.  That to me is rather unfair.  But I don't have a good alternative to suggest.

Multiplayer achievements just suck in general. Even in MP games I hate them.

Achievements aren't even that big of a deal, honestly if it's between 100% completion or MP, I'm going to side with MP. Achievements should never be the breaking point for what to include in a game.

They're a big deal to some people. Not everyone. Some hunt madly for them, others use them like I do to try things in games they otherwise wouldn't, and some couldn't care less for them.

Different tastes.

And I understand this, as I've tried for achievements before as well. But when people get to the point that they want to leave content out so that they can make sure they don't have to try to get a few more achievements, I feel that that is where there needs to be a line drawn. Leaving MP out due to achievements is the worst reason I've heard so far against it, and I've heard many.

Others would disagree. I'm not one of them, but they're out there.

Opinions vary wildly. But they're all worth consideration for even a moment.

Well I hate to be the one to say it, but if any of you out there think achievements should be, easy, desirable to do, and otherwise require limited skill or effort you don't grasp the meaning of the word 'Achievement' in the first place.

No I get what you mean. I just can't imagine being willing to settle for less for a better chance for achievements. I try to get achievements when I have nothing left to do, or if they sound interesting, but to think that any of them may have caused another feature, level, etc. to not have been made, puts a new perspective on achievements vs. content. Sometimes you'll have to settle for more difficult to get achievements, or achievements for things you no interest in, so that they can include content that affects more people than those that want pure achievement play. Imagine if they had made crafting lesser or removed it entirely, simply because of the difficulty of an achievement, or removed race selection for example. That would be an awful sacrifice to make for several difficult achievements being removed.

I like achievements for one reason and one reason only:

They've become a meme tween my wife and I.

Fed the dogs? Achievement unlocked!
Took a shower? Achievement unlocked!

Multiplayer is most certainly a big announcement... but why postpone it till "later in August"? There are a lot of people who are practically begging for MP and wouldn't it make sense to announce it during GamesCom? Fans would have been sooo happy.

Personally, I don't need MP to feel happy so I would not be bothered if MP is not announced. There are other things I'd like to hear: more info on crafting system or character creation, early Keep open beta. Though, only the last one counts as "big announcement".

Anyway, we have three months till the launch date and plenty of time for other announcements. If it's MP, then fine; if it is not - great! It can be something completely unexpected. I don't know, toolkit (they said the game is unmoddable, but who knows, right?) or this companion app (still don't understand what is it - the description in the interview was rather vague).

I adore achievements. Of all the changes I've seen in games over the years, achievements becoming standard is one of my favorites.

EA marketing. Probably high.

I feel like it would be SO LATE to announce multiplayer.

The Keep or something else is more likely, but who knows?

I have no personal interest in multiplayer, but as long as the core game is awesome, it'd be fine with me. And though my knee-jerk reaction is go go, "As long as it doesn't take away from the single-player, I'm fine", I also realize that that's not really how funding works.

this.

I don't think that would be an issue here.

I got an ME3 MP gold lobby game instantly yesterday, and that's 2 1/2 years post-launch.

While in theory I agree with you, Multiplayer achievements have one problem with them. You have to pay a Subscription fee to XBL-PSN to get them.

I guess if I wanted to highlight another problem, I'd say some MP achievements are way too grindy, like kill 100,000 players in Armored Core 4. I don't even think 100,000 people played that game.

1) I forgot that MP cost money for people on consoles. In ME 3, you can make a solo lobby and simply play by yourself. Though I understand that's probably not as fun.

2) I don't think all achievements are good. I like them to be difficult or exceptional, not tedious and mind-numbingly boring.

If the achievements are to be believed (if not fake) and MP is in,

then getting to 'MP second level' does not sound like a very high bar and may simply be designed to encourage people to try it.

It also stops the whining ' I have to spend a gazillion hours on a feature I don't like to get the achievement' complaints.
