Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of tacked-on multiplayer, I shall fear no microtransactions, for I have faith that BioWare will make the right choice.

Gah you're right. If multiplayer is in DA: I, I'll know exactly who to blame.

I wont be upset if there's multiplayer as long as it doesnt effect the story in SP

You'd be pretty hilariously wrong

The team have wanted to put multiplayer in pretty much every game they've done since Bioware was founded.

If MP is in DA:I, it's because the team finally has the time and resources to do something that they've been wanting to do for ages.

Is it so hard to believe that the developers themselves might actually enjoy and want to play multiplayer gameplay, like many other people around the world?

While I'm sure that EA would love to see MP; why are we assuming that BioWare was forced to add it?

Quotes from Allan and other devs seem to indicate that BioWare (believe it or not) actually likes MP in their games. Baulder's Gate, Neverwinter, etc. had MP as part of their games; heck even DA:O was originally planed with co-op MP in mind, and there are quotes from the Mass Effect team that indicate they wanted to have MP as early as ME 1.

Now it's quite obvious that EA would be all for MP; I'm not denying that; but why are we assuming that BioWare was pushed, prodded, abused and tortured; jeopardizing their SP-only vision of DA:I by their EA overlords? Couldn't it be just as likely that BioWare wanted to see MP in their title, and that EA was more than willing to give them the necessary funds to implement it?

Edit: What Elite Pincone said.

Welp, looks like the single player game is indeed dying out.

Maybe CDPR is my final hope....

Why? No one ever stated that you had to play the game MP, you can just easily play it SP. And the SP campaign looks like there's plenty there if that's all you want to do. Why worry about a section of the game that doesn't affect you? If it's there and you don't like it, but others do, it seems you'd be fairly ambivalent about it.

Apparently, according to some people on the internet it is also a shining beacon of hope for straight male white gamers who are, oh so opressed in the gaming industry.

I don't think that is what he is talking about, It's more of the fact as more and more franchises switch over to MP they tend over time to lose their content for SP until they become mostly MP with very little SP in them.

whereas i plan on playing all the backgrounds in DAI, i would love it if Hawke was one of those options. MP i don't really care about. if it's there, fine. cool. whatever. if it's not there, fine. cool. whatever.

but i hope this "big announcement" is not just some lame app.

If they do so though it's generally for a reason, MP is very popular, a lot of people like to play game with friends, spouses, etc. This gives them that option, whether it be online or couch MP. SP games will never totally die out, so that seems to be and unrealistic concern, and not all games that offer MP now will be guaranteed to in the future. Companies are forced to adapt to what is most desired at the moment to maximize their market success, and social gaming is always high on the list of desired features. That isn't to say that SP will be tossed in favor of that in a 100% case however, simply that it has an appeal that many companies are starting to use that hadn't before.

And I say leave a great SP franchise alone. If you want MP then make it into a stand alone game, don't tack it onto a great SP game.

So, you're basically arguing that it's okay because HELL, IT'S PROFITABLE.

I think what the two of you are missing is the fact that BioWare is first and foremost a business, it must sell a product that will be profitable. If they can implement a feature that will increase potential profit, then they will likely add it. Certainly it won't be something that everyone will like, but that doesn't mean that it should just be tossed aside. The facts are this, we have seen enough of the game to know that there is plenty of SP content in the game, MP will in now way take anything from that. You just said yourself it was a great SP game, so if they throw a bone to another audience and it doesn't affect the SP campaign at all, then why shouldn't they add it?

I'm not debating the fact that this game wont have a lot of SP. What I'm saying is it doesn't need MP tacked on to be profitable. They could make a MP game on it's own that can be another profitable game for them set in the Dragon Age universe. Now they have two profitable games.

We don't know for certain that it won't affect the SP though.   And after Mass Effect 3, I'm cautious.

But perhaps the people that want MP don't want to feel like they're unimportant enough that they should have to buy another product to enjoy one feature.

I highly doubt after the displeasure with ME3 forced MP, that they would try the same thing again. And if does affect SP, I doubt it would make enough of an impact to feel like there is a pressure to play MP.
