But perhaps the people that want MP don't want to feel like they're unimportant enough that they should have to buy another product to enjoy one feature.

Really? Look at Bethesda They have The Elder Scrolls Games and They have The Elder Scrolls Online. Everyone is happy with this. The SP fans have Skyrim and the MP fans have the online game.

Everyone is happy with this? ESO doesn't even belong in the same league as the actual TES series.

And there are other studios, take Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed Unity, who are charging players for 'time saver' unlocks of gear and items.

If you are looking for a moral high ground with regard to profit greed, then BioWare with no day-one DLC and no DLC companions look to be doing a good job.

Whatever is announced for EA Access is on top of an already awesome looking game (150 hrs completionist).

Whatever the additional component is should be assessed on what it is, not on what we may fear it to be or not be.

Truly we are simply going round in circles here until we know one way or the other...

Yes, those are a decent example for what you are suggesting, but the people that want MP are likely already planning on buying this game, should they be expected to pay $60 more just so they can experience MP? EA has enough guff already when it comes to their business manner, I feel this would only hurt them further by looking like a money grab.

Yet they are still selling copies of ESO and people are playing it. While the TES series is still what it is SP.

And? That still doesn't refute that ESO is not even a shadow of the actual TES series.

I really don't see a reason why multiplayer fans should be made to play a completely separate game.

Most of the people who bought and are buying ESO also bought Skyrim. So, I don't think people will have a problem with this.

You do realize that MMO's don't have to be played MP, one can do several things SP if they wish, so that has an audience consisting of both sides?

The MP series is it's own series. The SP series is it's own series. Many companies have done this. It works and players get what they want a great SP or MP experience.

Exactly. Not sure if it has changed in the mean time but a lot of quests in ESO can't even be played together because if you don't finish the same quests at the same time you won't even see each other. You are practically playing alone. Not to mention that in general the story experience in MMOs are extremely solo centric ever since WoW came around because that is what the bulk of the gamers actually wanted. In an MMO you may see other players around you but in the open world it tends to be a single player type of game.

The MP series is it's own series. The SP series is it's own series. Many companies have done this. It works and players get what they want a great SP or MP experience.

And nothing stops a company from giving players a good MP and SP experience in one package, again something which can and has been done in MMOs. And this can also be done in a game like Dragon Age Inquisition. I don't see why there is such a fear of having multiplayer in DAI.

You can play them by yourself, but you are truely not alone ever.

I can't help but disagree with this, in any case Skyrim was released well before ESO, so there wasn't really any concept of the thought between the two. Having the knowledge of this game being seemingly amazing, and then being told "you can have MP, just buy this game too." seems detrimental to a company like EA, who is endlessly criticized for one reason or another. In any case, I suggest we agree to disagree as this is derailing the intent of of the thread.

In a lot of MMOs you are pretty much all alone for most of the time other than in social hubs. And is it really that bad to see other players on your screen?

What says that Bioware has to release it now. That would be ridiculous.

I still think the big announcement will either be related to the Keep or the App they are working on.

My point is that they would still be expecting fans to buy another product on top of this if they wanted the full DA package. As I said though, we seem to be at an impasse and are derailing the thread now.

I would like it to be the Keep release date and maybe an open beta weekend so everyone can try it out

Maybe someone who wasn't previously a companion has been made a companion.

I'm not debating the fact that this game wont have a lot of SP. What I'm saying is it doesn't need MP tacked on to be profitable. They could make a MP game on it's own that can be another profitable game for them set in the Dragon Age universe. Now they have two profitable games.

Well, I get what you mean, but here's a couple points on this:

  • BioWare has little to do with whether MP should or should not be in the game; the bulk of the decision is EA's.
  • Since Kingdoms of Amalur's launch in Feb 2012, there has not be a single EA title released without some form of multiplayer.
  • ME3's MP's apparent success has clearly encouraged the teams at BioWare to further explore the idea; we already know the next Mass Effect game is going to have a MP component.

So unfortunately, EA (and by extension, its subsidiaries) is as good as done with SP-only games. It's no longer about what makes sense anymore.

That I definitely wouldn't expect to be something they'd show.

This close to release? I dunno ... could blow the roof off the excitement if an old favorite made the switch.

Such as?

I mean, it'd be big for fans of the series but to the majority of gamers who haven't played the game, why would they care?

Cool idea but I doubt it, I think they'll stick with the nine
