Since bioware won´t answer the multiplayer question i will say thats the announcement.

Not necessarily, companies might not want to draw attention to a feature they don't have, Thus no MP means they just don't mention it, rather than run around refuting it so loudly all the MP fans turn their nose up at it.

It's big news for PC gamers as the points system sucked, but I can't imagine that's the "big announcement" that was teased.

A big part of me wants the announcement to be 'yes we lied! All the bugs are gone and you can actually buy the game in September'.

why in september? why not NOW?! :D

Didn't they just post it on the forum?  There wasn't like a tweet or blog post that I missed, right?

If so, it's doubtful that'd be considered an announcement.

Now, lemme say this- I'd be more interested in a video on Skyhold, or the CC.

I also would love to see a detailed video presentation on Skyhold. Really hopeful that this feature is a cool as it sounds.

Yeah, this has been brought up a lot on here over the years. Refusal to talk about something does not mean it exists or does not exist. They can't talk about things until certain times because they are not allowed to and would probably breach some sort of contract/lose their jobs if they did.

They might get stronger from our tears, but that's incidental to the real reason they withhold info.

The big announcement was never a Bioware thing, it was a Destructoid thing.

If it's not on their website, it's not "the big announcement".

(I expect it'll be all over Bioware's website and the BSN too, but Bioware has never talked about anything happening this week.)

I will say, that while I haven't been a big fan on how marketing has played out for this game, the one thing I do think they did right was to not show something until it was nailed down and solidly in the game (for the most part).

With that type of marketing idea in mind, saying 'there is no MP in DAI' would have gone along with making sure fans temper their expectations accordingly.  They've been relatively upfront with features that are absolutely not in the game.  I don't see why MP would be different.

It could be something Bioware told destruction and gave them a time table on when Destructoid could share this information (i.e. after the official Bioware announcement). So it actually could be this real money for DLC thing (which is actually a huge deal, since no dlc for a DA game has ever gone on sale because of the currency change. Now we might actually get christmas sales or summer sales or for-what-ever-reason-you-want sales and have dlc be *gasp* not full price!).

Having said that I doubt that is the big announcement.

So far, more and more evidence has been collected towards the achievements being real, which in-turn leads to MP being real. The announcement may not be in relation to MP but that doesn't rule out the existence of MP in any way.

Sure, but Chris doesn't actually work for Bioware, and it's not like they used the @Bioware twitter account to say "hey there's something big coming in the last week of August".

I expect he asked permission before posting that, so it's sort of a semi-official hint.

(Destructoid have a history of being the only press outlets to confirm embargoes, too - they did the same thing a few months ago by mentioning an upcoming announcement in one of their videos that turned out to be a new trailer.)

I agree with your first part, but it wouldn't be just Destructoid.

They had a whole lot of press in one room playing hands-on demos with the game at Gamescom, and I expect they all got an embargo. When this news comes, it'll be carried on heaps of websites.

And I really don't think the Bioware Points change even qualifies as a small announcement. It's only important to PC players, and it's not nearly interesting enough to get press embargoes. It's news that gets posted on their official website, not in the games media.

I'm still betting on the death ray thing though!

Or some form of mp.

Whatever it is it sounds like they have something big planned for PAX. Hoping they are announcing a playable demo (like DA2).

When I click the link, it mentions Gamescom....

I'm confused. Is he talking about this week?

Yes, he's talking about this week...

But Alistair was kinda infamous for teasing Gamescom every few days before the event, his tweet sounds like he's just continuing that tradition.

With EA access for DAI I would assume that's a really slim chance.

Actually that's why I think they might do it. Xbox Oners get a preemptive week of play (probably limited to the end of the first story arc or something, but still), so to counter balance that the PC and PS3/4 get a non importable demo to play with. Like DA2s it gives us a hint of some random part of the game. (In DA2 it was the fake intro and Isabella's intro quest).

Not that EA has ever really been into fairness or balance, but we can hope.

Not to mention several journalists have gotten to play demos of the game, so it isn't unreasonable they are transforming that press version into a short 20 min demo.

Spoiler

Even a multiplayer demo like ME3 had would be off the cards. If the EA Access trial is MP, Microsoft would hardly want to let anyone other than paying Xbox One subscribers play early.

I think when they ruled out a demo for DAl, that's something we can probably expect to remain true.

EA took demos away from Madden which they've done every year because of EA Access. I don't think they're worried about fairness.

Sadly true. I was hoping through some heroic effort Bioware might convince EA otherwise. Break the chains of evil (EA) Bioware!

A demo seems unlikely, has demos for ea now are through the paid early access program

Bio is a studio and part of ea even if the studio retained its name its still a devision of ea, so don't expect heroics. No offense to bioware devs. :)
