I wish you people would stop making stuff up. I had to start up the game just to be certain.

The list stops at Power Amp IV. There are no other bonus armor amps.

Yes. With the Batsent build I linked in the OP, a good point is that, for example, your shields start to recover immediatly after a Brute's charge, so you're not health gated by the Marauder or the Ravager shooting you right after. The build shines also against geth, who don't have any DoT attack.

Actually, in the brute example, you'd still get healtgated by the ravager. That's because having your shields regen is a different thing than having your shieldgate back. The shieldgate timing is fixed and not affected by any power or consumables.

Still. I find shield power cells to be a very underrated consumable. They can be god tier on kits with high shield regen bonuses, but they're also pretty good on other kits, such as infiltrators, or any kit with very few shields. Overall, I'd say cyclonics are more useful on a wider array of characters, but not by as much as people seem to think around here.

What kills their usage, for me, is the existence of adrenaline modules, more than cyclonics. A bit more shields can be easily trumped by a reduction in shield regen delay, but moving 20% faster, quite simply, cannot. Regardless of which kit we're talking about.

... I rarely see Shield Power Cells in lobbies (where cyclonics, power amps and adrenaline modules seem to be always prefered), so I was wondering if you BSNers consider it as a good option when you think about increasing your survivability ? If you do, which kits / what circumstances make you using it ?

Besides humans, I myself love it on characters who have already a good bonus to their shield recharge speed, like geth or kits with Blade Armor. This Batsent, for example, with almost 1600 shields and those shields regenerating after 1,2 second is very, very hard to kill. The Flamerless geth trooper, with a shield recharge delay who can possibly drops below 1 second, is also amazing.

I mostly use it on the Flamerless GT, for that reason. 1 sec shield recharge=virtually endless dakka.

Ridiculously good on a Batarian Vanguard with bonus charge when you stack it with Blade armor and his fitness shield recharge.

Hmm, interesting- I've never taken Bonus on him, this could be worth a try. Its too bad the Slayer doesn't have some special shield recharge bonus, that'd be freakin' amazing to have like a 1 sec shield recharge for that palm blaster.

Only really use it on the geth trooper. Added dr with fortification works well with the quick shield recharge. Otherwise I sometimes throw it on randomly if I don't have anything else better to use.

I have to try that too. Equiping Shield Power Cells on a vanguard is counter-intuitive at first sight but your build looks promising.

if you want to do that then just convince someone to play Volus and Shield Boost you all game. It's hilarious.

It's also good if you ever wanted to know what it's like to be a Phantom. You can spam palm blaster just as much as them, and you can simulate their insane DR with shield boost's DR.

Precisely. One of the down sides of soloing a lot (or maybe rage-quitting a lot)... A while back, I started to you use any equipment I had available rather than pug for more. I realized how good shield power cells are and will often use them for solos. Cyclonics still trump for most kits (when soloing) in my opinion, but since I'm usually out of Cyclonics, Adrenaline and power amps.. shield power cells have become my go to. They've completely replaced cyclonics for pug games as well.. cyclonics are reserved for solos lol.

Oh I know that Presta ! To be honest, the game I was talking about in the OP was a solo, and I equiped Shield Power Cells because I was out of cyclonics. But I was surprised how effective it was. I failed wave 10 because of targets with only 1 missile left, but I had still 3 of my 6 medi-gels, so more or less what I had in my other runs with a cyclonic 4 equiped.

Apart from the obvious speed boost (sprint, pizza, side stepping Brutes) I've been a big fan of Adrenaline Module's since I discovered that, with one equipped, my Tsent can walk backwards faster than a Banshee can teleport.

WHAAAT?! Must try this! :o

I use power cells on vorcha, volus, infiltrators and... TSol, for some unknown reason.

Yes. I think it is possible to actually reach 245% recharge speed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

230% is maximum, as we heard from a Bioware developer who was playing with us in a few matches.

They're very fun on Geth Soldiers. I could be wrong(never having tested it ingame) but I believe if you put a Geth Trooper with shield regen 3 and the shield regen gear inside a biotic bubble your shield regen time goes to zero. Infinite shields forever!

I find them useful for kits that I'm playing a lot of RHA and soft cover with (Notably weapons platforms). Someone mentioned using a power efficiency because it increases DPS. For those kits I use em on, being behind cover less means firing more; more deeps. Just takes a different perspective.

I've found a use for pretty much everything in the game. (Even Explosive Rounds)

But not all of them are equal by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd use them a lot more if I hosted more / had a very reliable connection. I really like shield power cells, but my connection is apparently crap and pugging on someone else's host generally exacerbates that (unless their host is all world). No use in equipping shield power cells if I'm getting drilled/downed without even realizing it ... So, dependent upon kit loadout I'm generally running power amp/efficiency or cyclonic/adrenaline mod.

I do typically use shield cells on my human fem infiltrator, and I've toyed with them on melee kits/vanguards.

Geth Trooper on max Shield Recharge and equipment that helps speed shorten recharge delay makes him god-like. Still, being shield gated can still kill you.

It depends on the power, since the bonuses you get from the power tree are part of the same calculation. Volus or novaguard are relevant to that discussion as well.

I will use Shield recharge if I ever run out of Adrenaline and Cyclonics, which will never happen.

"Power Recharge Speed" only goes to 200%, your actual recharge speed bonuses can be higher.

I don't know what he meant by that.  More in a second...

AFAIK there is no cap on the dynamic bonus portion of the power recharge formula, I don't know where 245 or 230 is coming from, except that there was a graph a long time ago showing that the cooldown doesn't change much after that.  Or the confusion has to do with the fact that there is a racial starting encumbrance number which is 30 for vanilla humans, 45 for others, etc, that is first added to 200 before you add in passive weight capacity bonus and subtract weapon encumbrance to get PRS.  It gets chopped to +/- 200% if you are under or over.

Then the power's rank bonuses, and dynamic bonuses (like TA penalty, Power Efficiency) are add in to get a total bonus, and that plugs into the cooldown formula.

Hmm, this is a good question... I try to avoid using shield boost, I guess.

I use them on my infiltrators (excluding GI), sometimes on the flamerless GTS and when in a game with a good team where I want extra survivability but using a cyclonic would be overkill.
