During the demo, the map will focus on the area surrounding Val chevin, Grand Duke Gaspard's lands.
However, their symbol was a white deer, possibly an Halla which is not Gaspard's symbol.
Discuss or just gush. Whatever you feel is appropriate.

Maybe Gaspard became part of the Dalish? ![]()
I'm assuming it's a consequence of siding with Celene in the Civil War.

Are you suggesting Gaspard has already sided with the Dalish?
Maybe the Halla's just a placeholder?
Maybe Gaspard became part of the Dalish?
Gaspard: I don't like you filthy knife ears better than anyone else but I gotta admit those face tattoos are hella badass. You let me join up and you can have some **** after I kill my cousin!

Nailed it.

So you think Gaspard will side with the Dalish during the civil war and offer them Val Chevin in exchange for an alliance against Celene because the Inquisitor sided with her?

Not just that but the Dalish got to make Gaspard an honorary dalish elf and give him those nifty facial tattoos they all wear. That's the more important thing than the Orlesian throne.

I was actually thinking the Inquisitor sides with one, convinces the Dalish to help either Celene or Gaspard and s/he rewards them with the opponent's territory.
Or maybe what you said. Who knows?
But the symbol is there.
Well i always got the feeling while Gaspard personally would despise working with the Dalish, he would do it if they could carry their own weight and aid his cause.
He had no issue with using magic, mercenaries or informants, he takes the tools that are available, but only if they play by his rules, if they don't well...he killed a noble that would have been invaluable to him at court, because he tried to violate an oath he made.
That was some one he actually gave a damn about, this would be a alliance of convenience.
He's that odd mixture of strategic pragmatic brilliance and honorable that will make him the best ruler Orlais has had in a while.
So i could see it happening, the Dalish just have to play nice.

It explains everything, Orlesians are genetically incapable of ignoring potential fashion assets. It can manifest at the most unfortunate times.
It would be funny, actually.
However, I'm sure there are more likely explanations. First, we should take a better look at the symbol (does anyone have a link or the image in question?). It could be a halla (Dalish) or it could be just a white normal animal, like a deer, so it could be another organization's symbol. Now that I think about it, which is supposedly Gaspard's symbol?
Val Chevin is really anywhere close to the Dales. Maybe it just means there are Dalish in the area.

I liked that about Gaspard.
He could be ruthless and pragmatic, but still combine it with a sense of honor.
Basically what you get if you'd mix Tywin Lannister with Ned Stark ![]()
Ugh, I meant to type "isn't." I had that very map right in front of me actually.

Don't worry about it; that happens to me from time to time.

I can't find an image of the symbol, but if it's a white deer a logical assumption can be made that it's a halla, as we know that halla are very large deer with all or mostly white pelts. Halla would more likely be used in Dalish heraldry, so there is a possibility of a Dalish link. Unless it's a placeholder symbol.
This is Gaspard's heraldry, for the record:

So...Stannis with a sense of humor, then.

I guess, yeah ![]()
I hope you'll be able to ally with the Dalish. Even if a homeland isn't established, there must be something we can do to improve their conditions. I'd also like to be able to interact meaningfully with them as a Dalish Inquisitor.
I wonder if we'll mainly be dealing with one clan, or if there are several this time around?
I wouldn't be surprised if the Dalish were hostile towards a Dalish Inquisitor depending on which clan(s) we meet, some clans would likely see them as a traitor for being so involved in a human organisation.
It seems unlikely that picking an elf Inquisitor would result in a specifically unfriendly response from elf factions in the game.
