Random comment, completely off-topic, but it's a burning desire.  Has anyone ever encountered just a plain old deer in DAO?  I just did in the twisted something or another random encounter right before the endgame in DAO and it nearly blew me away.  No halla.  No poodle-sized rat, just a deer.  Mind = blown. I took screenshots to preserve the moment for posterity.  We will now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

Edit:  reading the title of the thread I just puked into, I feel I should make some sort of intelligent comment.  I honestly think it's not going to be easy for the elves and Val Chevin isn't going to be the answer.  It's going to take a lot more, and there's going to be a lot of hurting before it's done.  There isn't anything so tempting as the candy on the other side of the glass, and if the hungry child is given a piece, it's going to want more.  It's like a need that has been empty since the dawn of time and there won't ever be enough candy to fill it up.

There are oh, so many injustices in the world of Thedas.  That's kind of the point.  Who's going to be giving out the candy?  Will there be a rota?  I've been in line longer than you have.  Surely it's my turn already.  But people are inevitably people and want to or not, they do eventually work something out, even if it involves destroying the world around them.  For the elves, I doubt it's happening this time.  There's this big hole in the sky that keeps people from focusing on the important stuff.  If the game works like I think it might, it might be possible to manipulate the balance of power to favor the desired outcome.

Going away now to stare at my navel.

It seems unlikely that picking an elf Inquisitor would result in a specifically unfriendly response from elf factions in the game.

Really?

I see the race traitor argument coming, but that's me.

Or they would consider it an opportunity for positive change, as you are essentially the leader of this organization, with a lot of leverage over the humans.

That's an excellent point. I'm highly doubtful that the Dalish are going to spurn the elven Inquisitor for begrudgingly commanding a military of shemlen who obey his orders.

When that same order is beholden to the Chantry coffers? Uses their personal and resources and who only accept their authority because it was granted by a Human?

It's a figurehead position if i ever saw one, but to be fair i have a feeling its about the same about for every one, but hey at least humans wouldn't call another human out for serving as a Chantry figurehead.

For the Dalish it would be going completely off the reservation.

Anyways, it seems possible to me that getting the Dalish in one side of the war would certainly help tip the balance, then you get both into the Inquisition.

Or it could be an opportunistic land grab that we have to sort out with a side to gain favor, ala the quests when you picked a side between Behlen and Harrowmont

For just working with humans? Unlikely. If that were so then they would consider all Dalish Grey Wardens to be dishonorable traitors. And also, from a simple design choice standpoint, I don't think they would elf characters hated by elves as well if they are already going to be hated humans. Elves are the one type of people that the Elf Inquisitors should get a mostly positive reaction from.

I think the devs said that an elven Inquisitor will have an easier time working with the elves, and a harder time working with humans.

It doesn't make much sense to me, but i am not a storyboard writer so meh.

It's as simple as can be. Elves and humans each like their own. How does it not make sense? It's not like all Dalish hate everything or demand the death of all humans at all times. They're not created to be enemies of the player.

Because Dalish culture is based on Isolationism and antagonism to Humanity?

And working for Humans seems to violate the very core of that belief.

Dalish trade with humans all the time. There's no taboo against interacting with them. Being hostile to humans is not necessarily part of Dalish culture.

one instance thus far mentioned in lore, and it isn't even something seen yet so if it even occurs regularly, how are we to know?

Its just something that we have borne witness to in every incarnation we have witnessed...Seriously that defense is getting a little flat when it has been proven the case what...a 100% of the time so far, the only Dalish that were willing to work with humans either had no choice or weren't even welcome among their people anymore.

Beyond all that, this is merely opinion.

I really don't want to hash this out in a thread about Gaspard @_@ Emperor of Orlais!

That's true. Gaider mentioned the Dalish near Rivain get along with the humans who follow the Natural Order. He said, "A few are quite benevolent and live in peace with nearby humans -- the Rivaini city of Llomerryn is known to have a semi-permanent Dalish encampment on its outskirts, and trade with the elves for their crafts is encouraged."

As for the clans who roam in the nations where the Andrastian kingdoms are located, they seem to steer clear for the most part. In response to PsychoBlonde's comment about the Dalish seeming similar to the Sephardic Jews, Gaider responded, "They were still living as part of the societies they migrated to, however. The Dalish do not. At best they'll camp too near some human settlement and eventually the local ruler will drive them out, or they will leave voluntarily before things get too tense, but for the most part the Dalish live entirely seperated from human society."

Anyway, looking at the map, it does look like a Dalish logo where Val Chevin is, but I'd expect that would mean a lot of things before I'd imagine it means the Dalish Elves control the city.
