Heya.

So while watching the Enemy of Thedas trailer I've noticed that Lady Hawke's staff is glowing with lightning whilst holsted. Will this be the case for every other weapon in the game? I think it could be very annoying to stare at a staff in flames while exploring, or during a cutscene - especially romantic ones. I was hoping that the elemental effects would only activate themselves in combat, like in Dragon Age II.

Any thoughts on this?

I would imagine that such effects will be turned off for cutscenes or even when combat ends like in DA2 with the Armour and enchantment spells.

However there may be so me unique or special weapons that will always be "on" but all this is just pure speculation on my part :P

Did you see the gameplay? It looked like the flaming sword was flaming the whole time.

I distinctly recall that DA:O did this as well, though I don't know about DA ][.

DAO certainly tried to do this all the time, but if you have dual weapons with different effects equipped (one lightning and one fire, for example), the second one would often not show.

But the intent appears to have been that they would show.

And that was why I never used rock armor in DA:O <_<

Heh. I always played a DW rogue so I had two swords, one usually flaming and the other sparking.

Interesting. They usually showed for me. I wonder what the cause of the defect was.

I actually DO feel like the rock armor effect would periodically disappear.

I'd kind of prefer it if enchantment effects were done more a la Skyrim, where the weapon glows momentarily with a little bit of a rune-ey sheen to it when you pull it out, in a colour depending on what the enchantment was, rather than have the effect in your face the whole time.

My Warden had a fire sword for a bit, and it lit her up in conversations so much I thought it was going to burn her hair off.

Annoyance Remover mod ftw

Nothing was more annoying than the pink stars floating around you whenever Leliana used Song of Valor.

Spoilers? Ummmm, not really.

Weapons effects should disable when the weapon is sheathed.

I saw in the last gameplay demo that in one specific place the Inquisitor's sword kept it's flames effect while sheathed - probably just a bug though. But I imagine all weapons will get their effects muted when sheathed.
