I'm doing a new trilogy run. Shep's a good guy but lacks the great luck/reality warping powers of a truly successful playthrough. Since the original council and Isheel will both be dying, I might as well have the VS die too to see the good scenes some other team mates get. Any thoughts on who it should be? They're both middle of the pack as characters for me, and I've been running both in ME1.
Best VS if you're planning to kill them?

Have Ashley killed. Don't have Thane and Kirrahe alive in ME3 and don't visit her in the hospital. After you shoot her, she will say "I hope the reapers send you to he**". Wear Cerberus armor when facing her.

I think Ashley works a lot better for killing. I admit bias on my part.

Ashley, it always feels good taking her down.

Is your Shepard a biotic? If so, then Liara will comment on Shepard's biotics if Kaidan is the one that's killed. Also, I preferred Kaidan's last line to Ashley's. (at least Kaidan's line when Javik shot him, not Shepard.)

Honestly, I'm leaning toward Kaidan. That way if I can't go through with it, I still get the great scene after Gellix.

Why ask for people's opinions then if you're just going to go ahead and do your own think for your own reasons?

Because at the time I was undecided and reacting to posts is a good way to clarify thoughts.

If you say so.

Ashley is the only one I'd kill at that point in the game.

I usually kill off Kaidan in ME1 because I like to either ignore or kill Ashley in ME3.
But my latest play through I'm going to kill Ashley off at Virmire, because I need Kaidans bonus power in ME3 (since I lost all my old game saves).

If your Separd is not a Biotic, kill Ashley. ME3 is short of Biotic allies.

That's not what this thread is about. OP is going to kill both of them, and it's about who is narratively better to kill at the coup.

I've always felt like Kaidan was meant to be killed on Virmire. He's never come across as truly real to me; more like a Disney character. Ahsley, while being kind of a ******, is more 3-dimensional. I liked gunning her down in ME3 too. The damage of Udina's coup really hits home in that case. A good story has bad things happen to good people.

That's an interesting thought. I like Ashley dying on Virmire protecting the STG because it feels like a good character arc for her. It's why I always do it now. Of course actually liking Kaiden and disliking her makes this easier.

I agree with congokong. I always felt as if Kaidan was meant to die at Virmire. Given Ashley's personality I feel that the scene on Horizon suits her more than it does Kaidan and given her pro Human stance it seems more natural for her to defend and believe Udina during the Coup than it does to have Kaidan filling that role.

From a practical standpoint, I will always save Ash on Virmire, unless I'm playing Soldier Shepard. Having soldiers in the party makes certain parts of the Citadel fight less annoying, so to speak.
IMHO anyway, they are equally "worth killing" at the coup conclusion, and both outcomes will give you the replay value you are seeking. Why not go for two new playthroughs? Think about it! it's just 200 hours of your life...
