I just cant turn it off

each time i see someone getting hurt FOR REAL I just cant help trading places with him mentally.... I just feel so angry and horrified I just don't want it to be empathetic to it  EVER

never ever do that especially u guys that live in safe paradise like places DON'T EVER take it for granted don't ever stop caring

the world is a strange place an one day u might find ur self on the wrong end of the TV screen

Don't carry the world's burdens on your shoulders. Imagine if I were to switch places with every animal cruelty scene there is, I don't think you could go on after a while, it's just too depressing.

That's very unhealthy in the long run. In order to survive in this world and not die, you have to learn to turn it off at times because otherwise you'll become a very hurt and painful person.

That's not empathy, and empathy's never a problem. I wish people would be more willing to understand more.

Seek out some organizations similar to this one and commit some time. You may find that hard at first, but after a while it feels good. And, you will make others feel better too. Human nature may have some evil tendencies, but you need to affirm the good in what you do each day.

Nah. I am not that type of person. I will help a family or friend out, but stuff like that isn't for me.

I don't. I relish the chaos at times since chaos is just the energy of growth and change.

somehow I doubt you'd feel the same way if you had ISIS, Hamas, the Israeli military, Ukrainian separtists, Ferguson's police department, or Cliven Bundy's militia goons playing "Cowboys and Indians" in your neighborhood :P

Actually, my dad trained me for that. He was former military, so I always wanted to test my skills in that type of environment.

Interesting. Well, the war in Afghanistan is drawing to a close, so if you really want to test your mettle against armed lunatics, you'd better enlist while there's still time.

Unfortunately, I can't join the military due to a stupid medical condition. Otherwise, I would have joined already.

I don't think the idea was you got to go on safari with the long pig as much as it was they'd turn up and mess your neighbourhood around. Seem to me there'd be differences in the potential coping strategies you can bring to bear and your emotional investment in the situation when you're not going around with a group of well trained well armed folks who have objectives, it's happening around where you keep your family, and your job and possessions and so on are getting asploded.

I see what you are saying, but I always go by the philosophy of keep it light. I can pack all my valuable possessions in the back of my car just in case.

That reminds me of pretentious Shadow philosophy from Babylon 5. Great show, but those aliens had annoying philosophical standpoints for war.

If you can stand the early 90s vision of the future , I recommend it for Sci-fi drama. I can say the show started slow and ended crappily, but the middle seasons were a memorable nerd-ride.

You and everyone else who's not suicidally stupid, (not that they'd be able to put everything in their car, but that they ought to be able to make some compromise between value and life - and leave if the latter seems to be significantly endangered.) But I gather that refugee situations in war aren't exactly a whole bunch of fun either. ;)

If it's like BattleStar Galactic, then I am going to pass. I prefer the SG-1 type of sci-fi.

It's more akin to Star Trek: Deep Space 9. It's heavily geared toward ideology, politics, and hints of religion, premised around an evolving and looming threat of war.

No, I have not been in something like that, but I would like too because if that's the only way to tests my skills. Then I will take it. We all have to die eventually, so I would rather choose an exciting way instead of reaching old age.

You're kinda crazy if you choose to have that life. So many people in the Middle East want out. You want in. That's abnormal.

I will admit. I am a little crazy. I just get fed up with rules of society, and the stupidity that goes with it making me want to make my own rules for a change.

Or I can go to Alaska which I have considered before.
