I will miss having the party choice screen and seeing companions animations when you choose or dismiss them

they look cool and the whole war table shows they have put a lot of thought into designing things differently and interestingly .

I never really liked the DA:O party selection screen. It felt like I was picking people for a game of kickball, not asking people come with me to kill people. At least the background in Awakening looked cool.
I'm all for Dragon Age doing anything that moves it closer to having a distinctive art style. I like to think that in 10 years we'll see the rich colorful paintings and associate them with Dragon Age, just like people associate the cel-shaded art style with games like the original Borderlands and Killer 7.

Though I have to disagree that Varric is the Sun. Leliana's card is much closer to the design of the Sun than Varric's. I'd have to say Varric is more of the Chariot.
Additionally, Solas looks more like the Magician. Cullan is almost definitely Justice, Blackwall is the Emperor. No idea for Josephine. Temperance maybe?

no he talk to much and as manly as he is, chariot is about bring opposites together though pure force varric work though more soft methods.
however the sun is actually a pretty good card for him, it being about positive, confident and ,more to the point for varric, acceptence. the whole mage friend and friends in the templars thing.

I don't believe in fortune telling, so I don't know the first thing about tarot cards. Still, I'd have to agree that Leliana is definitely the Sun. Her portrait is contained within an outline of the Sun on her card.

The IGN Gamescon Live Demo contains cards for Varric, Cassandra, Solas, Cole and Blackwall

Tarot cards can be used for more than divination, their original purpose is for playing games and there are many card games that use parts of the minor or major arcana (Snapsen, Poker, Tarock, ...).
also a cirle is featured in many cards, and the raven on her shoulder rather clashes with the sun, making her more a candidate for temperance, which also would fir her in game role much better.

Yep. I am a someone who strives to be objective and rational myself, so the usage of Tarot or numerology or astrology to do things like divination is nonsensical and downright full of BS.
However, using Tarot for entertainment and fun, which is what we are doing, this is a game after all, is okay. After all, developers do not usually just randomly depict characters in a specific fashion, so, IMO, looking at the card can give us some clues to the followers and advisors.
Btw, I did not notice the advisors having their own Tarot-style cards. Hmm, any idea what the advisor ones stand for ?

That's pretty neat. Suddenly tarot cards are showing up everywhere. The Inquisitor has to be The Star.
I'd actually assume that the Inquisitor would be The Fool.
Though of course Quizzy + Companions + Advisors only barely covers half the major arcana, so I wonder who the others will be.

I think each character will have up to two or maybe even tree Tarot card to represent them. After all, no one person is just one thing.
We may get a look when we get access to the Collector's Edition Tarot Cards.
I mean, Varric in game might be The Sun, Cassandra might be The Death, Cole might be The Moon, Solas might be The Hermit but I am sure we will have Varric as something else as well. After all, good characters are multifaceted.
As for the Inquisitor, the default in game one would be The Fool but you can roleplay yours to be any one card or a combination of card that you like.

I can see that from the Fool's journey, it's just that Sera is called the Wildcard, so to me it feels like a shoe in for the Fool.

Hmmm, good point.
Maybe The World? Representing the unity of heaven (the fade)and earth in a single era, the end of an era before a new one is born, divine manifestation in the world, etc.?

My guess for the World would be Lelianna actually. Too many resemblances, Lelianna appears to be Naked, presence of an animal and how the world represents the end of one phase of life to begin a new one.

Could that be the Elder One?

I don't actually know a thing about Tarot. I was making my judgement based solely on artwork I found on Google. Varric's looks nothing like the Sun while Leliana's is almost a perfect match.

I know next to nothing about Tarot but I would be willing to purchase a deck separately from the Inquisitor Edition. The illustrations are gorgeous.

The cards look cool, but this feels a little too much like Persona. That series doesn't own Tarot or anything, but still...
Too much like Persona is not a valid criticism. Every game should be more like Persona. I might be biased, but still ![]()
OT: Can I just start by saying that the artstyle is absolutely gorgeous, and it's making me even happier that I decided to grab an Inquisitors Edition while they were still availible. If the rest of the goodies in the box turn out to be of similar quality, then it will have been money well spent in my opinion. As for the whole "who represents what arcana", I don't know enough about them to judge accurately. My knowledge of the tarot comes pretty much entirely from Persona 3 and 4. That said, the Inquisitor should totally be The Fool. Because Persona. I like Persona. You should like Persona too. Did I mention Persona yet?

For the same reason that early image only teases part of four cards. The teaser used for the Inquisitor's Edition is a mock-up from months ago when it had to be announced, but the art for the deck was still in progress. The final deck will use the images that you are now seeing in game.

Agree with all of this tho Sera seems a better fit for the Fool, what with The Fool representing the prankster and the rulebreaker. Also, like the Fool, Sera is described as rather untested in her beliefs. And as someone here mentioned, she has been explicitly referred to as a wildcard. This is all based on my rather limited understanding of tarot however.

Oh yeah, I have no idea what the tarot cards represent aside from some really vague ideas. I just meant that since the Protagonist of the Persona games tends to default to the Fool Arcana until they unlock their ultimate arcana, it would be cool if Biowares protagonist also was The Fool ![]()

I hope at some point they make the tarot cards available for purchase.
Afraid the only plan I've heard for a physical deck is the one included with the sold out Inquisitor's Edition. I'm sure if interest continues, they wouldn't be averse to releasing something a little more simply packaged, less "collectory" maybe? I don't know.
Feel free to add suggestions for stuff like this to the Product Idea forum topic for the BioWare store. Never hurts to remind the powers that be of where you want to spend your money.
