From what I gather. Some specs can be learned from buying a book. Some through means of companions. Now I know you have to be of the class to learn from your companion. How do you teach from one to the other companion? Also, Can you not unlock all specs for each class? Do you have to be the class to learn the spec unless a companion has it, such as blood mage?

If you are a warrior, for example, and ask Leliana to teach you the Bard spec, she will say that she'll just give you tips that you can use to teach other rogues, even if you can't learn how to do it... once a spec is unlocked, it is available to all characters of that class.  You can select it once you level up.

Most people will teach you their speciality. This is of course only if you have the talents for it. eg needing to be a mage to learn shapeshifting or a warrior to learn templar. Blood magic and Reaver I got in other DLC (Awakening I think).

Your companions automatically have the specs you unlock.  In fact, if you get say Zevran to "Teach others to be an assassin" and you're not a rogue, it will still unlock for Leliana.

You can unlock all specs in one playthrough, though blood magic requires you to be a mage.  A couple of them seriously affect the outcome of the game, though, so people will will get the spec, then reload.  Once you've had it - even on an unsaved game - it's unlocked for all playthroughs.  It saves to your master save file.

Assassin, bard, templar, berserker, and shapeshifter are learnt from companions.  Note that Morrigan will *not* teach you shapeshifting if your friendship is too *high*, whereas all the others it has to be high.  Morrigan is weird that way.  Oddly, Wynne will never teach you spirit healing.

Ranger and Spirit Healer are only obtained through tomes.

Reaver, Champion, Duelist, and Blood Mage are unlocked from NPCs.  Champion you can get through the main story if you don't refuse a reward, Reaver and Blood Mage require you to make nasty decisions (you can reload).   Duelist can be learnt one of two ways from Isabela.  Again, except blood mage you can learn these on any class, and they'll unlock for every playthrough and companion.
